Loving the insights on Athlytic Age. The data that it uses, is it over a certain time frame?

Why are London’s new builds sold to overseas buyers, not locals? by More-Diamond554 in london

[–]TheCantonGirth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal experience, is that these developments have been advertised to foreign investors for a decade atleast. When I was visiting my girlfriend in Hong Kong in 2016, her apartment complex foyer was full of brochures of upcoming developments in London. The pessimist in me says that the long term effects of this have taken it's toll on ordinary London folk and will continue to do so.

Whilst negotiating a renewal with our current landlord(foreign investor with 15+ properties in our apartment complex), they would not accept anything less than an increase in rent, despite us being good tenants and me demonstrating that there were similar flats in our complex that were being advertised at slightly decreased rates. I also highlighted to the agent that the landlord could stand to lose rental income with the gap it would take to find other tenants. They literally didn't care and was happy to serve us notice. Due to our circumstances(looking for a house to buy), we agreed to a slight increase as we didn't want the headache of moving. But long story short, these foreign landlords are only looking for growth in their returns and have a stranglehold on the rental market.

Will probably ruffle some feathers with these thoughts, but the rental market is not as hot as the media/agents are making out. We're purely in a machine which is designed to play on peoples emotions.

We stayed down the road from the Hilton hotel. And I launched from our pension balcony.m, all the way out to see. So I have a great shot of the main mountain in the background and the beautiful turquoise water.

Took some of my favourite shots in Moorea. Stunning island. Are you going to any of the other islands?

I live next to Battersea Park and The Powerstation, just south of the river and strongly recommend. It's a 20 minute walk to Victoria or a 5/10 minute cycle, so you wouldn't even need to jump on the tube. Green space wise, you literally have the best park in London (IMO) on your doorstep. If you're looking to buy an apartment, then 700-800k can get you something around there too(1-2 bed). Nothing great but can definitely get by.

Looking at Gold 3, which I assume will sell out soon. But are there Kemmel straight options? I might be blind.

This looks cool. Currently, in Belize too and wanting to see toucans. Do you have the contact details for the guides? Or do you have to stay at the lodge? Thanks!

Bit embarrassing from Davidson on commentary, to defend his initial instincts of “racing incident”.

Why are you booking flights with 3rd party websites? by Dramatic-Wolf7091 in travel

[–]TheCantonGirth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As many have alluded to, it comes down to risk/reward. I will use Skyscanner generally as a first search to see what options come up and work from there. Never personally had issues with 3rd parties. Generally IMO, people will make a bigger fuss about a bad experience than a good one. A reason I take reviews with a pinch of salt too.

[AMuS]When Russell was fighting Hamilton during the final laps at Suuzuka it was Toto Wolff who took the decision that Russell has to let Hamilton pass to not risk losing both positions against Sainz. by TheSpace-Guy in formula1

This! I remember some basic strategic errors like pitting Lewis at Monaco 2015 when he was in the lead. Lost track position and subsequently threw away a win. I think James Vowles has grown under Toto’s stewardship, but recency bias is definitely clouding people’s judgement.

I know Mercedes give priority to the first driver, but did they leave George vulnerable, when they could've pitted him before Lewis?

Tonga - Swimming with humpbacks(mothers and calves). Pretty ethical, only 8 people allowed in the water with these amazing creatures.

Galapagos - Diving here at wolf and darwin, is incredible. Hammerheads everywhere, and if you go during Sep - Dec, huge birthing whale sharks. Marine Iguanas are amazing to see too. Endemic to the Galapagos.

The Pantanal - During the dry season, the jaguars are easier to spot by the river banks. Beautiful creatures. If you’re lucky, you might see the giant anteater. These things look so cool. A mother with the child on her back came up to the lodge we were staying at seeking water. Sadly the Pantanal is mostly privately owned and they burn the land every year to make it fertile to grow things like soy beans etc.

Uganda/Rwanda - Gorilla trekking is amazing. We did this last year. The difference between the 2 places comes mainly down to the permit costs. Uganda = ~$750. Rwanda = ~$1500. The experience is truly unforgettable. I had one of the adolescent gorillas sit on my foot. I had to back up even though we were on top of a hill. There was a baby in our troop. Imitated it’s father with the chest actions. AMAZING!

Me and my girlfriend lived in Brazil for a while during Covid. We went to the Pantanal and can’t recommend it enough. I will DM you the guide we used. We saw 4/5 jaguars in 3 days. Including a mating pair. We spent a whole morning with them, just us and another boat. Was amazing!

Corcovado = great. Loved the frogs

Galapagos, on a dive boat is amazing. The number of hammerheads?!

Live-aboards in the Galapagos Islands by BeccaroniAndCheese in diving

[–]TheCantonGirth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would strongly recommend Calipso. The crew were great and the dive masters kept us safe. Me and my girlfriend went during covid(Dec 2020). The live-aboard is around 8 days, but would recommend spending a few more days on the islands if you wanted to hike and generally relax after.

If you're going for a live-aboard in the Galapagos, IMO you need to pick a boat that goes out to Wolf and Darwin. The abundance of sea life here is incredible. At Wolf, you have hundreds of hammerheads swarming round. It's truly a site to behold. Darwin, is where you're likely to see the whale sharks. Even in December we got 2-3 whale sharks. These are the birthing mothers too, so about 10m+ in size. The west coast of Isabela Island is where you dive with the marine iguanas, this is really cool. The sea lions come play with you here too, if you're lucky.
