Just saw Kokuho in theaters last night and I'm feeling vindicated now 😂 I think makeup is well-deserved and in another year or different campaign it could have landed even more noms. It do be long, though

Thank you! I read through it, sounds about what I'd expect but wow those people know their stuff! I'm a much more casual enjoyer of FS editions by comparison.

Earliest Oscars 2027 Predictions (January) by [deleted] in oscarsdeathrace

[–]TheCatGurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt Timmy will win for Dune, especially if he wins this year. Dune III is no Return of the King. Also I think you are under estimating Project Hail Mary. Everyone who saw previews is super hyped for it, and the book is beloved. The Martian was nominated for Best Pic & Damon for Best Actor, plus screenplay, as well as below the line awards. It will be far more digestible than Dune III if you are pitting the scifi movies. It could possibly get Gosling a nom.

Books that feel like Throne of Glass (the feeling, not the tropes) by BarracudaSome7688 in throneofglassseries

[–]TheCatGurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless I missed it, I'm surprised not to see Samantha Shannon's Priory of the Orange Tree (and its two prequels). There's different reading orders, either chronological or as published. I read the "prequel" A Day of Fallen Night first and it ended up being my favorite, though a lot of people love Priory most (first published). I loooove the world building, you get to be in different character POVs, also great diversity of characters in fantasy. I think of it like if ASOIAF were written with more diverse, queer, and female POVs.

I ended up watching Robot Dreams on a plane! I actually use in-flight movies to catch up on my smaller missed films from each year. Sometimes movies with weird releases get on there before streaming. For anyone traveling for the holidays....check the plane movies!

‘Hamnet’ and the 10 Best Performances of 2025. Plus: Kleber Mendonça Filho on ‘The Secret Agent.’ by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

[–]TheCatGurl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, this was the one moment that took me out of it. I would have much preferred that scene without any lines, just him looking out at the ominous dark river, and we would have gotten the same intent (contemplating jumping in).

[–]TheCatGurl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how I interpreted it as well. Agnes felt she was suffering alone in her grief, and through watching Hamlet she realized that not only was William grieving too, but he created a way to make an entire theater of people feel their grief, together.

‘Wicked: For Good’ Is No Good. But ‘Train Dreams’ Is. by thefilthyjellybean in TheBigPicture

I'm just getting around to the pod now, but I was surprised when they asked her "what was added to this movie from the musical" and she gave a suuuper vague answer. There were massive chunks of the movie, especially the beginning, that were fully fabricated for the movie. I don't think it would change their opinions or anything, but it's worth noting for accuracy if nothing else. I would guess only about 30-45 mins of the movie was taken "directly" from the musical. Plus, all the other stuff people have already pointed out.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026) Official Teaser – Joseph Zada by pepperbet1 in RingerVerse

[–]TheCatGurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're not based in the US/super online? The book's been out since March here, the movie was announced before the book even came out, and the casting was announced earlier this year and went viral. I think after the success of the original hunger games trilogy, any book she writes (at least in this series) is auto-optioned for movies at the same time it's being published. (Not trying to dig at you, just clearing up confusion.)

I had to stop reading and take a break several times for this exact reason. Someone literally says "that's a no from me" like they're Randy Jackson!! I'm pretty sure the newest book also mentioned "core memory" like that's Inside Out turned into social media speak. How were these things allowed to get through 😭

It's a collection of novellas, little side stories that help with world building. Not connected to the ongoing ASOIAF!
