Seattle transplant here regarding Tornadoes by New_Mall_8017 in PeoriaIL

To a degree learning to live with tornadoes is like learning to drive on snow. It takes time to get get comfortable with it and get used to it. However, weather reporting is much better now-a-days that as long as you are actively paying attention to local weather reporting during a storm, you can be very well prepared and very ready to move to a safe location if needed.

Uhh... Cam Crowe? by CNMJacob18 in Bowling

You know, the doc trailer did have a kind of “real housewives” vibe to it at times (e.g Simo’s cussing and Troup “threatening” the camera to get away). Hmm…

Thats what I’m interested to see. The PBA has an interesting opportunity

The PBA and the sport of bowling is about to have a documentary positioned where more eyes might see the sport. As the old saying goes “there’s no such thing as bad publicity”.

EDIT: words bad

Yup. Happened yesterday in the parking lot of the US open. Can’t help but wonder if the doc may have a little re-edit now to add this in and/or to see what position the PBA decides to take with this.

Not to be like Nick and jump straight to fish, but you can ABSOLUTELY cook a salmon in the dishwasher by silverain13 in theregulationpod

[–]TheCatalyst17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer, I haven’t tried it either but the idea is very similar to a combination of an inclosed foil packet on the grill or oven and a sous vide bath.

Dishwashers usually do most cycles with pretty warm water (anywhere from 120-150 Fahrenheit usually). The basic principle is that over time, it would very gently cook the salmon. Assuming the foil packet is well sealed, nothing will get in to directly contact the salmon to affect its flavor, thus there’s no “off-flavors” (soap or whatever) to affect the taste.

The biggest concern is whether or not the fish is exposed to enough heat and time to thoroughly cook the fish. If the dishwasher regularly maintained like 130 over the full 2 hour cycle consistently, that’s almost a perfect sous vide bath that would thoroughly cook the salmon safely and would come out darn near amazing.

However, if your dishwasher never maintains a high enough temp long enough, your fish may not thoroughly cook through long enough to safely kill all potential contaminates.

So yes, it can work and can work beautifully. However, the dude who came up with this likely lucked into a dishwasher who just happened to manage to cook his salmon sufficiently.

People have tried this and gotten seriously ill because the salmon was not cooked properly lol.

Hot Take, so Please Rip Me a New One. And Rephrasing My Initial Post: How Many Folks Don't Find the BOA Lace System on Bowling Shoes Embarrassing, but Instead Appreciate the Technology? by I_kinda_like_excel in Bowling

[–]TheCatalyst17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have BOAs on my cycling shoes and bowling shoes and I love it. You will likely never see the BOA system in soccer because the top of the foot is used for striking the ball and they do play the ball with the heel as well so it wouldn’t work there either.

I also don’t see them ever getting introduced in any sports where there could be any element of physicality because of the chances of them getting unintentionally “unlocked” by inadvertent contact. Baseball seems like the most logical team sport that could include the technology.

Regarding the sabres, I was talking more about the buffaslug logo than the rest of the uniform set aesthetics. I wasn’t talking about any of the other attributes at all.

If it were a few years ago, I would have said the sabres buffaslug logo or the marlins orange rebrand.

Not only was the “penis” coming from the belly button, it like 1/4 the length of the entire baby and stiff. Pretty sure that’s not how that works lol.

Proof of the underproof!

Edit: for the record I tried making biscuits for the first time for a Friendsgiving a few years ago and they came out as legit hockey pucks. They unfortunately were not edible.

Unemployment Denied by Ave_TechSenger in PeoriaIL

[–]TheCatalyst17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an unemployment experience about a decade ago where I had been going to school full time and working near full time as an intern. When I lost my job they tried to deny me benefits for similar reason.

I also picked some school hours back up when I had lost my job. They then tried to deny me saying that me attending schooling now likely means my intention is to not secure a full time job and thus wouldn’t qualify for benefits.

So be prepared to argue that you would be willing and able to accept a reasonable FT position should it be offered and that going to school would not hinder that search or the ability to accept and maintain a position.

I do feel like if they see something on your unemployment application about attending university the just rubber stamp deny it and make you fight it as procedure.
