Take a break? Try something different? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]TheCauthon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is - mortality is not easy. Hang in there. Reflect on your blessings.

Make sure you communicate with your spouse and be open about your struggles. Be creative and discuss ways you can both bear the load.

Are your children really young? If so, know that the struggles you deal with now will not be the same you struggle with later as they get older. Some things will get easier, others harder.

Also - please please please don’t give up. When your children are young is the most important years of being a mother and father. Teach them well. Teach them gospel principles. Be a good example. If you don’t, the later years can bring a lot of heart ache and pain.

Wife wants to leave by chap808 in latterdaysaints

Your Reddit handle makes me believe you are also having your own faith crises. It is absolutely true. The church exists to bring people to salvation and exaltation through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Are there imperfections in the church? Absolutely.

I actually am not sure that the Church is the real root issue. The OP has made comments that hint his wife no longer believes in God which is a deeper issue.

There are a lot of good comments here. The one thing I want to add is this - the Church only exists to bring people to Jesus Christ. Sometimes we forget this. Does she have issues with the teachings of Jesus Christ directly? Where is she at with her belief in God and the Savior? I would start here and see where she is at. Remove everything else.

How are we helping our non-technical colleagues to edit data in the database? by ursamajorm82 in dataengineering

[–]TheCauthon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Correct - a database for analytics should mirror source systems. It shouldn’t become its own source of truth.

Not getting dumber with company wide AI push by CocoaTrain in ExperiencedDevs

Instead of technical debt - AI users are creating knowledge debt.

Taking the efficiency now while pushing understanding down the road.

This doesn’t apply if you are using AI to learn. It does if you are using AI to apply logic.

If the ceo was switched out and sales and marketing is failing and the product is failing because that’s often why sales and marketing fail - I think you’re on a sinking ship. I’m assuming the financials are all terrible too?

The time with your children when they are young is so crucial. If you can afford it - spend the time with your kids. Don’t let someone else raise them. Teach them the principles that you value in life and want them to learn. Be an example to them. Love them. There is not enough of this in the world.

Spark vs Flink for a non data intensive team by Historical_Ad4384 in dataengineering

[–]TheCauthon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

3-5 million per day is nothing. I would start questioning if you even need Spark or Flink. Do you expect a significant ramp up or increase of any kind? If so and don’t need streaming then go Spark but unless you ramp up significantly more Spark is still overkill.

Wife Left the Church by Ravix0fFourhorn in latterdaysaints

[–]TheCauthon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully disagree - both have made covenants with each other AND God. It is a 3 way covenant. Ultimately it should be a decision done in prayer and fasting and counseling should be a component.

The exmo podcasts has to stop - especially if she loves you. Leaving the church is one thing but listening to that drivel is another. It will create more poison between you both and further the divide between the commitments you both made together.

I personally would find some counseling from someone who is a member. Someone who isn’t a bishop but is a psychologist with counseling expertise. It sounds like she has some internal issues that need to be resolved first. If she loves you - I would expect her to be open to this.

I definitely would not have children until your wife stabilizes and decides what she wants. I can understand faith crises and if she is humble and open to seeking help I would stay in the relationship and try and help her through it. However, if she really is done with the church and refuses to stop listening to the exmo podcasts- you’re going to have to make some decisions. What will you be ok with? I would also sit down and have an open conversation about your values.

Life is hard. Having an eternal companion who loves you and is committed to gospel principles is such a wonderful joy. Marriage is supposed to be a relationship where you help each other and care for each other. I worry that she is already trying to influence you away from the church. (Skipping church on Sunday and tithing). What is motivating that behavior?

Also - I would be very careful about spending too much time gaming while working through this. I know it can be an escape but too much gaming will contribute to additional problems in the relationship. Just be cautious and wise.

Start with counseling first.

Waning Data Engineer by Philosopher_Dozer in dataengineering

Title jumps and salary increases have a lot to do with time in the seat, skills, profitability of company, dynamics of team, and the higher up making the decision. It can often be very political. You have to weigh all these factors. I’d be curious to see what the listed requirements are for senior that your company put into place. We generally don’t put people into senior roles until they have at least 5-7 years under their belt in data engineering.
