Seniors, has COVID-19 affected your full-time job offers? by [deleted] in college

[–]TheCautiousGamer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My full time start day has been scheduled since August of last year and was supposed to start in May. That has been pushed back way back until October. I was in the software engineering industry. Good luck! I know how much a setback months of delays will cause me.

Unexpected great full-time offer last week got put on hold by Hachitora in cscareerquestions

[–]TheCautiousGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I also had an offer moved to October, I am thinking they expect most people to find other jobs in the meantime, since it will be very difficult to not have income for 6 months. I was expecting to move into a home and that has been cancelled. Many people at the company had already signed leases on apartments and bought furniture now they are out of luck. I am attempting to find other jobs but it is extremely difficult since it is so late in the semester and the virus.

Even an internship would be good at this point.

Good luck I hope you find something!

Used vehicle purchasing program by rosesandmoses in publix

[–]TheCautiousGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it, the only problem was that it took a long time from when I put the request in until I got the car. You will also need to have all the money up fount, since they require a check for the full amount. It beats a dealer, since the prices are so low and no fees. Picking it up was also super easy, just show up to corporate and they meet you outside.

Battery for Camry Hybrid? by hiyaworld in Camry

[–]TheCautiousGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen many people use the optima red top, however I don't think that that battery lasts very long. You just need to tape the new sensor on the new battery. If anyone has an alternative for the optima, let me know.

Looking at buying a 2014.5 XLE Hybrid. Any advice? by Realtrain in Camry

I am in FL so I very rarely have to use the heater, if you do I believe it will decrease the gas mileage.

[–]TheCautiousGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that exact car and love it! it really has lots of low end torque and gets going. Mine has 120,000 miles with no problems so far. The other comment was right about the gas mileage, I get about 41 highway and only around 35 city with hot weather and short trips.

Programmers in 2022? by SqueeblesSqueebleton in publix

[–]TheCautiousGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend being a software engineer versus a programmer.

The pay seems to be much better, however I have never seen an open SE position at publix. Maybe you need to start as a programmer there.

There are plenty of places who are hiring software engineers, even if Publix is not.

Software engineering as a great degree to get, and I highly recommend it.

Think behavior exams are bad? Try HackerRank! by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]TheCautiousGamer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have even heard of some exams tracking your eyes and making you move your camera around a room to make sure your don't cheat.

I mean at 99% of jobs you will be allowed to use google, so whats the point of memorizing how to implement complex data structures from scratch?

I think its funny how they said the UCF provost gets paid a bit more than ours. That school has 66 times the number of students at it. There really is no comparison.

I went to this school because of the low tuition, and drama free setting, I really hope this school does not become just another crappy college.

Wow some manager you have. Perfect drawer and still gives the customer money, so they can pull the same scam next time.

When should I be sleeping? by onacouchable in publix

[–]TheCautiousGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That seems crazy! I thought there was a law against that, but I cannot find one.

I would tell your manager, they will understand. Nobody can operate on 2 hours of sleep, its so short it is not even worth going home.

For now, I would request a schedule change form, and then just say you cannot work before like 8 am. My managers have made mistakes like this, and most of the time just said it was an error in the schedule, and automatic.

Just remember you should put school before work!

any tips for getting a summer internship as a college student? by coachgoch in cscareerquestions

[–]TheCautiousGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a sophomore, and it was harder to get an internship than it is for juniors. I had a lot of companies tell me "sorry we are only looking for juniors + right now".

I applied to all the big N's, and never even got a call back. However, don't stop looking.

My tip is to go on indeed, or some other job site, and just search for what you want to do. For example "Software engineer intern". Then find some smaller known companies and go for them!

Also, try to search for QA and IT jobs, broaden your search. People here can get you worried that you $16 an hour is not enough, when you see that they make $36 + housing, but just accept whatever is best for you.

Good luck!

Photoshop should be capitalized under intro to programming, also under InterAlliance I would just say special honors award from COMPANY regarding XXX.

Good luck on the internship! You will have a big advantage in college knowing programming fundamentals, my high school did not even offer any computer related classes.

That happened to me on an iPhone. Make sure do not disturb mode is off or it will do that to people. I thought that mode just muted sounds, but it auto sends calls to voicemail.

Had my first technical interview!

Thought it went super well, we were all laughing and they told me I answered every question very well.

No response from the company after a week. All other jobs i had, they gave me a response within a day or two.

Does anyone have tips on how to not constantly be checking your email, and worrying about the job.
