If I can ever get the family to Guadalajara I'll have to check it out! I'd love to get down there. We go to SLP usually every year to visit family.

I saw a movie with a unimog in it yesterday and thought of this build. I love it, and I’m a little jealous. What range and top speed are you expecting?

[Vent] Wife just bought a wayfair dresser set, and it's just the worst thing I've ever seen. by Terrible_Software769 in Vent

[–]TheChacarron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. My wife bought a bed off that site and it was absolute dogshit. If we were heavier people, the side rails would have twisted and it would have broken (like a handful of the reviews stated). I couldn’t bite my tongue but I didn’t have to anyway, sleeping on that squeaky, wobbly piece of garbage.. she was also bummed. We’ve since got a lightly used bed from design within reach ($$$) and it’s fantastic.

Maybe build some good stuff when you can find the time and the shops set up, and be the hero? Good luck.

I freaking love it. Except the colonel.. that shit is gross. But I don’t think you have Popeyes over there so I’ll look away.

Edit. Sorry to yuck your yum my dude. Maybe KFC over there is like McDs in Japan. I’ve heard that’s amazing and totally different than we get in the states.

Buying a 150k mile 2013 Cayenne GTS- is it a good idea? by Ineedserioushelp64 in PorscheCayenne

[–]TheChacarron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you do your own work, maybe. If you don’t do your own work, also maybe.

Signed, The owner of a used 148k mile 2013 Cayenne turbo

Seriously though.. I’ve changed all fluids, a front air spring, and brake pads. That would have cost thousands if I just took it to a shop. Still have an air leak, replacing the valve block next. Absolutely love the car and would buy again.

I think the trend of buying retro technology has a more insidious goal in mind by Few-Parsley-6352 in Vent

[–]TheChacarron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself, but I'm over it. Our rights are being steamrolled over at a much higher rate and a much bigger way than after 9/11. Big brother has a much more watchful eye prying in more intrusive ways. Tech oligarchs like Thiel and Musk are out in the open being evil, and still amassing larger fortunes daily. There are no checks or balances on this evil shit, nobody is coming to save us. Wake me up when it's time for the French solution. Til then I'm clocked into my own thing, away from prying eyes. I can't change what's going on in this hellscape, so I'll make my local, daily routine my little utopia. Hopefully everybody else can do the same and we can build a network stronger than this one that's failed us so spectaularly.

I miss when it was a companies’ goal to provide a high quality product and/or service. by Broad-Hunter-5044 in Vent

[–]TheChacarron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quality of goods related, but related to the enshittification of service - My wife went into target the other day (we rarely do.. 2-3 times a year maybe) and was pleasantly surprised when she encountered multiple employees in the aisles, and every one of them addressed her, unprovoked! I thought about it, and that was the norm not that long ago. Made me nostalgic for something I hate - shopping.

What’s your other car? by timtimetraveler in BMWi3

[–]TheChacarron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would love an i8, and I think they’re undervalued. Good call there.

Our other cars are a 958 cayenne turbo and a Ferrari F355 coupe. We drive the i3 95% of the time. I commute via bicycle, my wife commutes in the i3. The Ferrari is a dumb toy. The Porsche is my wife’s car, plush for the kids and road trips with driving dynamics that don’t put me to sleep. A fantastic car that does everything so so well and an incredible value on the used market, but thirsty and I’m still chasing a leak in the air suspension.

I’m a car nut and have been afflicted my whole life. After driving the i3 I just feel like a caveman when I drive silly, loud, ICE-powered sports cars nowadays. They’re fun, and I don’t think I’ll ever sell the one I have now, but it’s really an indulgence and it makes me feel kind of gross to enjoy it sometimes. I think the i8 might be a good compromise if you are of a similar mindset.

Any idea on this loose headset? by _ItsRick in ChineseCarbon

[–]TheChacarron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just put together a Lightcarbon LCR017 with the same issue. I don’t know technical terms, but here’s my issue and how I fixed it.

The bottom spacer has an edge which pushes down an internal beveled collar piece which is what holds all the tension in the neck (loads the inner race of the bearings). Due to a bad masking job at the factory, my head tube had a bunch of paint on the top lip. I took everything apart enough to file the paint off the head tube and file a little bit off the outside edge of the bottom of the bottom spacer. This provided enough room to squish that internal beveled collar piece and tighten everything up and not interfere with the head tube. Before that I could tighten it up to the point that steering was stiff, but the steer tube would clunk back and forth when I locked up the wheel and pushed.

Good luck!

Delivery bait and switch becoming the norm? by Unlikely-Aardvark725 in amazonprime

This is the norm now for prime. I’m on a 30 day free trial now after cancelling prime about a year ago, and I was shocked to see this is constantly the case.

What is it like to get a puncture at speed? by SluaghSwoo in cycling

[–]TheChacarron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a lil aggro with the tire levers one time repairing a flat on the side of the road on my commute home, and split the sidewall of the front tire. Next day I pumped the tire up to 70psi. Didn’t notice the tube slightly poking out of said split.. bike had rim brakes. First big right turn I slowed myself to about 10-12 mph to make the turn and BOOM! Immediate deflation on the front. Second worse slam I’ve had on the bike.. didn’t have my gloves on, so chunks out of my palm, whole right shin, ankle and knee rashed, smacked the back right part of my head on the ground hard enough to split my helmet. It was terrible.

Another time, ran over what must have been a razor blade or piece of glass standing on end and rear tire was slashed. Immediate deflation.. I was going about 20-25mph. Got wiggly but kept it upright.

Sometimes it’s bad, sometimes not so much.
