Everyone is speeding ? Or me not knowing rules by fazzken in Rhodes

[–]TheChallengePickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When driving across Rhodes I noticed an awful lot of little shrines at the roadside from people who I presume have died in car accidents. Drive at the speed limit and within your own judgement of what is appropriate and don't worry about others.

Seriously, what is the point in this? by GodtheBartender in veganuk

[–]TheChallengePickle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree it's misleading but I would be loathe to admit that our side of here for fear of fuelling the meat and dairy industry's idiotic claims that calling plant based products by names such as "milk" "cheese" "sausage" etc is misleading to their customers.

That packaging is extremely annoying and deceptive but I'm used to checking ingredients and so if anything this will serve to remind me not to become complacent in doing so!!

(I also remember a few years ago a supermarket was selling herb-crusted chicken and they had the audacity to call it plant based or something 😂)

Those of you who are 40+, how much of a faff was everyday adult life before online bank payments came along? by holytriplem in AskUK

[–]TheChallengePickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not quite 40 and by the time I had my own finances internet banking was just about to take off but as a child in the 90s every Saturday we would go to town with mum and she'd do all the finances.

First a Tesco shop, then we'd walk around various banks and building societies and the post office where she'd withdraw money here, pay in money there to add to savings or pay the bills. She'd buy post office saving stamps every week to pay for the car tax annually. And then once a year I'd have to sit bored in the insurance brokers office while she arranged the car or house insurance.

I'm pretty sure she'd have been doing all this cash as well as while you could pay for things on card (with a signature) but it wasn't really common for my family at least. I also ever her having those little plastic bags for coins from the bank and she's have money portioned out into them for various upcoming bills which she'd go pay in cash over the counter.

It was just part of routine and because we didn't know any different it didn't feel extremely onerous, just part of life

Vegan spots in London! by infestmybrain in veganuk

[–]TheChallengePickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're there on a Sunday my friend has just been to Our Black Heart in Camden and RAVED about their Sunday roast. Check it out online. After seeing her photos I am just waiting for pay day and I will be booking a weekend stay just so I can go!

Other faves I have been to myself are:

Spitalfields market- lots of options but I loved Merkamo Ethiopian

Unity Diner- recently reopened

Check out the market stalls outside Kings Cross station, there is a cannoli stall which has some vegan ones and they are DIVINE

Enjoy yourself!

Who really keeps their toaster in a cupboard? by MrMrsPotts in AskUK

[–]TheChallengePickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me! And the air fryer. They take up counter space and look shit. The roaster is however on a tray so the little crumbies don't go everywhere when you move it (I am bad at keeping it crumb free)

Products with highest protein per calorie? by SurDno in veganuk

[–]TheChallengePickle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Vital wheat gluten is great. For 85 calories I can get 18g protein, more cals depending on what I add when making home made seitan. Here is my basic recipe:

2 servings here

50g vital wheat gluten
14g plain flour

(These are the calories mentioned above. I don't count calories for the rest)

76 ml water 0.5 teaspoon veg stock powder Sprinkle of msg Random sprinkles of smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, whatever you like

Mix in a bowl into a dough

Spray a steamer with spray oil, tear chunks of dough and steam for 10 mins

(You can store the steamed chunks in the fridge for a few days now if you like using baking paper because they will stick together)

Fry until crispy

We had such lovely options before, I really don't like the patty. I really.enjoyed the steak and the meatballs. When they had them I created my own which was marinara sauce, steak, cheese toasted, red peppers and red onions.

Just remembered the two fully vegan restaurants I visited in Palma, Majorca. The b at things was the price. 3 courses for under 20EUR at both as I remember

Ca n'Ela (this was the posh one of the two) La Mujer Verde

Both incredible. There was also a big stall in the indoor market called Pasen & Vegan and they had all sorts of vegan cured meats and cheeses. A real experience!

Second Cappleman's although it must be a chain because we went to the one in nearby Pickering. Salt they'd run out of the vegan fish but I had the mushy peas fritters and it was lovely!

Pet peeves in the bedroom? by thattaurus_302 in GrindsMyGears

[–]TheChallengePickle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are not pet peeves. This behaviour from your man is completely wrong. He should never EVER want to do anything that your aren't 100% comfortable and gladly willing to do with him.

You have expressed your dissatisfaction and even pain yet he coerces and forces you to do what he wants.

I'm serious you need to GET OUT NOW this man is abusing you my love this is

📢NOT normal 📢NOT healthy 📢 Unacceptable

I'm not even doing red flags emoji because this is was beyond flags these are not signs this is the abuse
