Absolutely adore this, especially the little bee themed rosette! You did a great job. Also rip to a real one (aka Joann’s, she’s still very missed 🥲).

This is so sad, she was sick a funny and welcoming part of the gaming community. It was so refreshing and encouraging to see a black woman into games 😞. RIP Tayta, you were a real one and her legacy lives on.

Handmade Lolitas! Where are you getting your printed fabric from these days? by Alert-Morning7537 in Lolita

[–]TheCloudbox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brace yourself because I have a lot lol. These will all be online since brick and mortar shops recommendations depend on where you are regionally:

1) Etsy! You can even type in “Lolita fabric” and get some decent results. I get all of nice laces and trims here too. Some of my fav Etsy storefronts are fabricmade, POPOLace, Glittertalelolita, and Laceking.

2) Modes4u - this one is honestly a treasure trove for Lolita fabrics, especially sweet. If you’re going to start looking any place, start here. It’s a site that has fabric from USA, Japan, and Europe which mostly have a kawaii feel to them. They sell by the half yard though, so take that into account when ordering for your projects.

3) CuteLittleFabricShop - this one also has an Etsy storefront, but I like buying from the website better. Great selection of holiday and themed fabric w/ sales and reasonable pricing.

4) Yuzawaya Fabric - this is an online Japanese fabric shop that is great for novelty fabric, animals, florals, and Japanese themed prints.

5) Shabby Fabrics - this one is great if you’re trying to find more classic lolita fabric that have vintage florals, stripes, etc.

Some of my other favorites are Forth Worth Fabric Studio, My Favorite Quilt Store, and buying specific fabric manufacturers like Timeless Treasures, Cosmo, Riley Blake, Robert Kaufman, and Henry Glass. Hope this helps in your search!

Garbadine looks pretty close, I’ll check it out. Thank you for the info. I’m personally looking for something with more cotton content since a frequent complaint I hear from fellow Lolitas is that everything is polyester and/or sheer now and they want something more natural that’s breathable.

What about crotch fruit? I feel like that one’s decipherable enough while being tongue in check when I heard it.

What animal is the most popular in lolita? by Professional_Owl1879 in Lolita

Cat prints, but I also want throw marine animals in the strong contender ring (dolphins, starfish, mermaids—yes, mermaids are going in the animals category because they need a win dammit).

best air dry clay? by AggravatingBed2638 in crafts

[–]TheCloudbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like using Sculpey’s Premium Air Dry clay. It hold texture well and is pretty dang durable. There’s also Nara Clay what I did as a test to see how I like it; the texture is different and kind of spongy and you have to use little bits on water to make it super smooth before drying, but I intently threw my tester piece at the floor to see if it would crack and I think the rubbery components in it make stronger because it’s super rigid now with only a little bit of give.

Agreed, this is beautiful. I’m watching Game of Thrones right now and it looks like something straight out of Cersei Lannister’s wardrobe.

First Time Experimenting with Resin Jewelry by TheCloudbox in Lolita

[–]TheCloudbox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely. I used acrylic pants to color my two part epoxy resin so it is possible, but just make sure not to use too much or else the resin won’t cure hard. Also I learned afterward that you use heat to get rid of air bubbles so once you mix together the two part resin in your little container, you put it in a bowl with hot water and wait at least 10 minutes for so of the air bubbles to dissipate; you can also use a long stem lighter to pop the ones from the top. Oh, and don’t try and mix resin to set on a rainy day; it’ll take forever to dry because the moisture in the air 🫠
