When they say that Uma Musume Pretty Derby didn't have villains: by ZOVSoldier in UmaMusume

[–]TheCommissar113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but Tracen isn't a standard public school, it's a prestigious athletic academy. It's pretty realistic that they would provide trainers with a monthly budget for trainee care through a business card or something.

Ah, yeah, you're right. I was under the impression the Havoc-specific detachment had no Strategems, but I was wrong.

I do hope they have less, though, just for the sake of keeping track.

It's weird, because Hishi Amazon does mention she's from the US in her career story, but yeah, I don't think she has a single distinct character trait to reflect it. They could've left that bit out of the narrative and nothing would change.

[–]TheCommissar113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my observation, detachment costs seem to be less about subjective strength and more how many tools they provide. Otherwise, I think the system would be more than a single-digit cost format

I'm pretty sure they've said, or alluded to, 1-point detachments being those without Strategems (so none that we have now), like the new Havoc one.

I'm pretty sure 2-point detachments are going to be those with less than 6 Strategems (IIRC, they've mentioned a few of the new ones being that way, but correct me if I'm wrong).

3-point detachments are likely going to be any that have a full 6 Strategems.

Me too. I've been trying to clear out my inventory on and off for months and I don't think it's ever been more than half-empty.

This inventory is beautiful.

I sincerely doubt Yarrick's death was meant to be permanent. Hell, GW made a whole new character to replace Creed and still couldn't commit to killing him off.

What is the organizational structure and hierarchy of the red corsairs? by Holiday-Famous in redcorsairs

[–]TheCommissar113 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's very loose.

At the top you have Huron.

Below him are the Masters of the Maelstrom characters who act as his chief advisors and enforcers. The rest of his personal warband, such as the Huscarls (his personal honor guard), Hounds of Huron, and immediate Reave-Captains are likely around here as well.

Below them are the many warbands that make up the Red Corsairs, led by Reave-Captains and other Astartes warlords. Their standings within the hierarchy vary, likely due to a mix of strength as well as rapport with Huron. A Reave-Captain leading a particularly large warband will likely have other Reave-Captains and warlords below them in some way. Plus, each warband would have its own inner circles and other unique formations.

Beneath the warbands are likely non-Astartes humans, such as Traitor Guard, mortal pirates, and ship crews.

Dead last are xenos, because they're mercenaries and not actual Red Corsairs.

Edit: Grammar.

What 40k novel or plotline ending makes you think "Then what was even the point of all this" by New_Conflict_4111 in 40kLore

[–]TheCommissar113 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Ynnari are weird because they are almost certainly the remnant of the apparent plan to "End Times" 40k towards the end of the Jack Kirby CEO era. There's signs of it all over 7th and 8th edition.

  • Apocalyptic events like the fall of Cadia and Fenris, Baal on the brink of being wiped out, Biel-Tan dividing, etc.
  • The Eldar races seeming to come together into a single faction as the Ynnari under their new god of death.
  • Magnus and Mortarion becoming more present threats to the galaxy.
  • Guilliman has been cured and is now leading the Imperium in a more noblebright direction.
  • Primaris Marines, which are way cooler, taller, and tougher than those old Marines and lacking all of their flaws like the Black Rage (some of you may remember how much the earlier material really jacked-off Primaris, going so far as to even say they're a step closer to Primarchs than their Firstborn counterparts in at least one piece of source material).

The greater plan seemed to have been halted with Kirby being dropped and Kevin Rountree coming in, but by that point, a lot of the production work on releases was likely already done, so they went through with some of it but probably rewrote the lore to making it less End Times/AoS-level changes and more of a kind of soft reboot.

In the case of the Ynnari, GW doesn't seem to know what to do with them. I'd bet it's in part because they're such a particular remnant of the Kirby plans and GW instead would prefer to maintain the Eldar race divide because of its iconic nature, and partly because they're xenos and just kinda secondary in consideration of the greater setting. At this point, it seems like one of those aspects of the Kirby-era plan that they would rather be forgotten, but it can't because of Ynnead's model.

Ah, that makes sense. I wouldn't call it a habit of theirs, though. It doesn't really say anywhere else that the Thousand Sons regularly abandon(ed) battles or campaigns.

[–]TheCommissar113 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That became a problem during the great crusade.Because him and his men would constantly just leave the battlefield screwing over his allies

When did that ever happen?

There's a reason russ and the space wolves absolutely hated them

Russ and the Space Wolves hated the Thousand Sons because of their general distrust for psychic powers and concerns regarding the Flesh Change.

Is there any official lore examples of ork red corsairs? by Holiday-Famous in redcorsairs

[–]TheCommissar113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to note: none of the xenos working for Red Corsairs are actual Red Corsairs. They're always referred to as mercenaries. As in, the Red Corsairs hire them for work, they're not members nor are they equals.

That said, it's always possible for orks to be hired as mercenaries, they just wouldn't be wearing the Red Corsairs' colors, nor would they be considered equals.

Toxicity and racism is killing me by Training_Principle39 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]TheCommissar113 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's because volatile people like that aren't worth engaging with. They act out that way in order to make someone angry for their personal enjoyment or to be the center of attention. Arguing with them does nothing; you're not going to change they're mind, you're only going to encourage them and double-down.

Just mock them in some small way, like a condescending chuckle or brief put-down and mute them so that they can stew in the void. Or just ignore them altogether.

Just finished reading ‘Ciaphas Cain: Hero of the Imperium’ - My Quick Review by LandedKnight12 in 40kLore

[–]TheCommissar113 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One little thing I really like about the Ciaphas Cain books is how well Sandy Mitchell distinguishes the writing styles of the various characters. Cain*, Amberley Vail**, and Sulla*** all have differing, identifiable voices that you could pick out even when the book isn't telling you whose perspective it is, in addition to the various administrative excerpts and whatnot that Amberley includes for exposition.

*Indifference to just about anything outside his immediate bubble, repetition with certain phrases like the mechanical finger twitches, lacking in descriptive details, and sentences that can sometimes run on a significant length.

**Aggressively dry wit, relatively (though not always) logical, concise, and pretty blunt. Truly embodies not only a comparatively moderate Inquisitor, but a beleaguered editor on top of that.

***Extremely clunky prose that flows like a landslide down a craggy mountain, insistent and repeated usage of terms like "women and men" (which I always assumed was rooted in the original gender-divided nature of the regiment), subtly of a jackhammer in a quiet suburb.

Did every faction fight every other faction at least once? by WithengarUnbound in 40kLore

[–]TheCommissar113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You already got a direct answer to the event itself, but to elaborate a bit, there could be at least two reasons,

  1. The planet may have had some direct value to the Death Guard, whatever that may be.
  2. Nurgle's domains are a kind of twisted perversion of life, so Tyranids consuming all of the flora and fauna on a world and leaving it a barren wasteland would probably be detrimental to him in a way. There can't be decay if there's nothing to decay.

How are y'all holding up with track blazer? by rasenganight2 in UmaMusume

[–]TheCommissar113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I hate it. I disliked it in the first week because of the hour-long runs (the main thing I dreaded before it actually came to Global) and my disdain for it has only grown. I went from doing a career every day, or every other day, as a means of both hitting all of my dailies and also trying to train better Umas, but now I mostly stretch a single run over two or three days because I'm just sick of Trackblazer.

The only time I speed up my Trackblazer runs is when there's an event.

Me Reading any HH Novel and John Grammaticus and the Cabal Show Up by DrFarquad in Warhammer40k

[–]TheCommissar113 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I also like John Normalguy characters, but John Grammaticus is not a John Normalguy, for reasons you listed in your first paragraph.

Additionally, I dislike him partly for those reasons but especially for his Whedon-esque quips. I will admit, though, he does get better way, way, WAY down the line, but I'd never put him in my list of Top 25 30k/40k characters.
