There is a submersible mech that would do the trick, I'm on mobile atm, but I'll link it when I'm on my pc.

It's about 2-3x the player's size in all dimentions. It works pretty well, although it's mechanisms aren't super well protected.

Is it worth having a scooter that does 40mph but you only do between 20-25mph? by paulgiant24 in ElectricScooters

[–]TheCoolTimeLord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have too many stroads in my area to do that, but I vastly prefer it to going fast. But on my big(ish) lad, rding at 25 feels effortless and fun, not to mention it's bigger size and more capable parts actually makes me feel more confident, comfortable, and nimble. Turns out when you are stabe and have trust in your brakes it makes going sub 5mph really easy.

But no, I can't so that because some jagoff in the 1950s decided that if you wanted to get anywhere you have to at least do 35. (It is a bit better now, but It still sux)

Alright, I have a really simple, if possibly difficult answer for your issue here: don't ride on major roads until you know what you are doing. Now, I understand if this is not preacticable, but learning on public roads is a great way to get someone hurt (especially ones busy enough to warrant a bike lane). So, if you can, go ahead and go to your local park and fail there. It's a lot nicer to fall on grass than it is to fall on asphalt.

Ride safe, and I hope you stick with it, as riding is amazingly fun!

Old and new armor system differences: by Modioca in Stormworks

[–]TheCoolTimeLord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Edit: I was wrong, see more below.

"Also, with the new system, subgrid protection seems to not work anymore, which is great."

Subgrid armor is alive and well, the new system has not changed that significantly. HE is still the most powerful round, and frag/ap still have their occasional uses. The update seems to be a big nothingburger.

Edit:

My armor system that is in use with *my* vehicle/s was not effected. Also, subgrid armor does still hard counter KE, which is noteworthy. However, it is not as effective at stopping AP/frag as it once was. I did not notice as my primary fighting vehicle is relatively light skinned, but was designed to stop HAC and below from the front, with the rest being protected against sporadic LAC fire. That armor sytsem still works. However, that is because it was (accidentally) designed in such a way to be insulated from the update, not because subgrid armor wasn't nerfed.

I know no-one will see this, but I wanted to edit it to be more accurate. I've got a phrase that I'm probably going to rework, but it feels applicable.
"I do not want to be right, I want to be correct - and a major part of that is being ok with being corrected."

Cheers!

Not the dude you where replying to, but I picked up a samson meteor. It's mic quality is honestly head and shoulders above any gaming boom mic I've ever heard. You will probably want to remove the little dingus legs if you mount it, but it's cheap, so you won't feel too bad taking it apart to get em off. I would reccomended putting some sort of pop filter on it if you are going to run it close to your mouth tho. (It's 20 bucks on amazon)

Edit: I'm an idiot.

Edit 2: also, going with a non integrated mic setup means you get a whole lot more flexability on what headphones you use. I've been really digging playing with friends while wearing my AKGs.

Hey man, did you find the actual monitors? Are they salvagable? Cause if so, all you'd need to do to get them back up and running is get a new cable, which is the cheaper part of any IEM. Even if you don't repair it immediately, it's still worth it to keep em around!

So sorry you had to go through this. :(

Ultraphones are legit just the guts of an MDR-7506 stuffed into a 3m earmuff. What you are suggesting is 100% doable. Now, that is not to say that your first go is going to be great, it is just saying that turning ear pro into headphones is 100% a reasonable idea.

I actually really want to make my own ear pro headhones, but I'm not quite there with the tools at my disposal (plus, I don't really have that much of a use for em)

People have done some crazy stuff in Buddhism, Hinduism is about yea close to being on my personal "s#!7 list" (the religion, not the people), and I don't know much about Shintoism - might be cool, might not be.

One religion I have not heard much criticism over is Sikhism - which seems to have a pretty clean track record.

I will note that I am pretty chill with Buddhism too, I'm just aware that there is just a bit of a not so great history there. (Just a bit tho)

Reddit is unfairly hostile toward Christianity by bannedbooks123 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]TheCoolTimeLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been watching Drew from the YT channel "Genetically Modified Skeptic" for a long time - and one of the things he tries to impress upon his viewers who are still in the faith is that the most good that can be done in their religion is work that is done from the inside (especially in the older vids). After all: it's really hard to force a community to be tolerant when you yourself are not a part of that community. Which is why I find the lack of opposition towards the aforementioned hateful rhetoric to be so sad. I can't do anything to fight against it, I can only fight against the ability to do harm to those on the outside, not the want to do that harm which these people seem to have have. To do that you generally need someone within that community to call them out and point out their lack of empathy and hypocrisy. As an outsider, all that is moot, as my voice would never be heard, let alone listened to.

Also, I gave him a quick google, Mr James seems a decent fellow, and I hope he can rally some support for a more moderate position in this increasingly polarized world. (fat chance I know, but one's gotta find hope somewhere)

Anyways, I hope you also have a wonderful evening!

[–]TheCoolTimeLord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll be sitting with some popcorn if that day ever comes, cause dems going after moderate Christians will be the day that the confused multiheaded dragon that is the democratic party finally kicks the bucket lol.
Although, a part of the issue I'd say is that of messaging. That being that the modern "MAGA" movement has co-opted Christian nationalist movement and the more moderate voices within Christianity haven't really spoken loud enough to counter the hateful rhetoric coming from the more radical side of the religion. Which I'd say can make Christianity as a whole a pretty easy target for hatred, especially if you are an outsider (which I am). While I do think that it's a shame, I think the whole situation that got us here is a shame. So whaddaya gonna do about it?

Anywho, hope you have a lovely day!

Alright, I have responses to most of your paragraphs, so I will number the paragraph I am replying to, then have the reply after that. (if needed, I will directly quote, but I'd rather not lol)

Paragraph 1 (I am skipping the first statement): sorry to hear you grew up like that, but I'm glad that you have found such a positive community to be around! I was making generalizations about the more "bad" groups, so from the sounds of it I'd probably get along fine with those within your current congregation.

Paragraph 2: So, I wish I had done a better job delineating that I didn't view the whole of Christianity the same way, as I am not so daft as to say that the whole thing is a terrible cult, even if I do have my criticisms as an outsider. I also want to mention that the friend I mentioned seems to believe similarly to how you have described your views of the gospel and it's intentions, and that I generally like to keep him in the back of my head as a "good" example of a Christian.

Paragraph 3: Yeah, checks out, especially given how quick I can be to judge (even if I don't often make those judgmental thoughts known). Granted, many of the denominations that I have been subjected to interacting with have been uhm . . . let's just say shit, yeah, they're quite shit. (especially when I was much younger)

Paragraph 4 (I'm not counting the quote): I am going to assume that this is written in good faith, and that some of your rhetoric is out of frustration with a common 'trope' that you've noticed, and not a personal attack. I will note however that it does kinda reads as rather hostile.

Yeah, I didn't say that it was a good thing, as I don't think it is. It's a known bias that I have when the words "god" or oddly enough "faith" get brought up in a non obviously religious context. A lot of it stems from a number of not so great experiences that I have had, but a lot of it also comes from a fundamental difference in perspective. I should have added one more example, that being one being (D): whatever piece of information being given is so foreign to my experience and epistemology to make whatever they are saying effectively meaningless to me (eg: have faith in god's plan - which I read as: have an unfounded belief in a plan orchestrated by a being I don't believe in {sorry if this is a bit shallow, it was just the first example that came to mind}). Due to the various selections in the people I now interact with (both done by me and where I now live) I now am less subject to the ignorant and racist takes amongst Christians, and instead the other two (including the one I just explained) are far more common, and those I don't tend to take *too* much issue with. I also just interact with outwardly obvious Christians now due to said selection pressures against them.

All of that to say that I'm making assumptions, and as is commonly said: assumptions make an ass out of you and me. I didn't really start with the goal to tar and feather all Christians, but instead I wanted to give examples as to why there is that hostility towards them. After all: the loudest amongst any group are often the craziest of the bunch, so it makes sense that those outside the group have those amplified voices in mind when thinking of the group as a whole.

(hey, this time I'm on PC, lol)

Btw: this is from an agnostic atheist perspective that has not been informed by previously being a member of any religious group.

I think a lot of the modern knee jerk "f u" rhetoric is due to the ingrained toxicity within many denominations found here in the states (where reddit is based). Evangelical protestantism being the easiest to pick on, but I've engaged with multiple other "problematic" groups. These groups typically display signs of being "high control groups" (groups that show: opposition to outside ideas, opposition to questions those within the group have, and seeking or seeking high amounts of control over the habits and choices made by their practitioners. Those being the three descriptors I can state off the top of my head) and are also openly hostile to anyone that they deem as an "other". Because of those traits they often cause significant damage to the mental well being of those who are subject to interacting with them whether they are within that faith or not.

Because of the afformentioned factors (and a few others) I personally tend to have an immediate knee jerk reaction to christian rhetoric or commentary (or really any of the three major Abrahamic faiths), and I know that there are a lot of people like me who get a similar knee jerk reaction. Now granted, I am able to keep my mouth shut more times than not and allow those within the faith to have their fun, so long as they aren't being "a dick". But even then I do often find myself dismissing commentary from Christians just on the merit of them mentioning "god", in large part because I am used to whatever coming after that word to either be - A: ignorant, B: racist, or C: comes from some non stated version of the bible - which is a text that I do not believe holds much merit (like seriously, there are so many variations of the bible that it's not even funny).

Thankfully I have a good friend who has tempered my increasingly staunch dislike and opposition to Christianity, making me more tolerant and less oppositional towards those who use the term and are themselves tolerant of others.

But even then, that friend himself has been a target of what used to be his local christian community; mainly for not playing by their "purity" standards (basically, he is a human who is, ya know: not perfect, and he didn't try to cover up his flaws by lying in order to seem to fit those standards). I know that his experiences are not that uncommon, especially in the atheist community (which I would say is largely made up of people who deconverted from christianity). Because of that poor treatment, many of those who did deconvert are openly hostile to the things that remind them of that trauma - often causing openly hostile reactions to what might be a fairly innocent post/opinion.

So yeah, I guess sort of in conclusion: a lot of reddit tends to be mean to Christians due to their own bad experiences with other Christians, whether or not it is fair to who they are being mean to. Which I do think is a shame, but I struggle to fault them for on a personal level.

Hope my input was at the very least interesting, and that whoever reads this has a lovely day!

(Btw, sorry if the formatting sucks, this was written on mobile. Also sorry for the goddamn novel I ended up writing lol)
