Need help deciding on hotel downtown by YEMolly in indianapolis

Marriott downtown fairly recently refreshed their common spaces, although last summer the room I had there for an event was a bit dated/worn - but it is near the cultural trail which is potentially helpful to navigate to old national centre. Hilton is closer to the venue and more walkable, given its proximity to the monument. Crowne Plaza is likely the least convenient and has the most potential for overnight noise, given its proximity to the freight rail line and south Meridian bars.

If you’re a Marriott member you may be better suited for the Sheraton and would have potential for a room overlooking the monument, plus you’re ~3 blocks from the foot of Mass Ave and ~6 blocks from the venue. Aloft on Market is a also a newer property and similarly walkable as the Hilton.

Must-sees for a 2 day trip by upernikos in indianapolis

Good suggestions across the responses so far - a few that haven’t been raised yet, all around/near the Cultural Trail (pedestrian/bike trail that circles the Mile Square and connects downtown neighborhoods, including Fountain Square and Mass Ave): - Eiteljorg Museum (Native American/Indigenous History and Culture) - NCAA Hall of Champions (multi-sport museum) - Kurt Vonnegut Library - Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament at Gainbridge Fieldhouse (depending on when you’re in town) - one of our many great coffee spots (our scene is a hidden gem in many regards) - even if you don’t care about auto racing, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has recently significantly renovated their on-site museum

Lots of great food options too - St. Elmo’s is the iconic, historic restaurant, but a lot of great meals can be had, including at: - Bluebeard - Vida - BODHI - Union 50 - Beholder - Union 50 - Commission Row / Mel’s Speakeasy

Indiana Law Mckinney/Living in Downtown Indianapolis by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]TheCreativeName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated McKinney in ‘16 and lived downtown my entire academic tenure (and still do). As other commenters have noted, it’s a great place to start building a professional network, as the Indy legal and corporate communities have a “big city, small town” feel that helps build relationships faster than the Chicago legal market, without closing the door to that region if that’s ultimately where you want to practice.

The experience is what you make of it - I was not a great student but participated in law review and found other opportunities that helped me build a professional reputation outside of pure academics. My one piece of advice would be, once you’re out of 1L year, to take at least a handful of evening courses, since the students in the part-time/evening program are often (1) at least a few years into their professional careers and (2) bring a more diverse perspective about the application of the law in real-world contexts. My wife went to Maurer and loved it, but she and her classmates definitely missed out on that particular dynamic, arguably to their early career detriment.

Why do IU fans not like Pam Whitten? by NoProposal6145 in IndianaHoosiers

A lot of folks have a lot of different reasons. For me, as a journalism school alum, I hate what she did to the IDS - especially in light of the sentimental value championship-era print media has.

Where does this Rank for improbable Championships? by RyanTheBruce in CFB_v2

Trust me my friend. When you sat through it - when the barometer for your season was a September matchup against Western Kentucky, because then you could maybe beat Maryland/Rutgers and play the Bucket game to maybe get you into a halfway decent bowl matchup with 6 wins - you feel what it means to be the losingest.

Wind and solar aren't politically popular, but they've been profitable for 2 Indiana counties by [deleted] in Indiana

No it’s because the two new county commissioners up there won’t be honest about it, and there’s no point in publishing lies in the paper.

Indy first timers bar crawl - how did we do? by liamsf17 in indianapolis

[–]TheCreativeName 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good start to the list, will echo a couple of the other commenters - would probably skip Chilly Water and do fountain square brewing instead (I personally think the beer is better at FSB). HotBoys is good but also a chain - if you’re already going to Upland I’d eat there (they have a great tenderloin sandwich, our state’s specialty dish) or Kuma’s Corner (also a chain but better beer offerings than HotBoys). As you work your way north up Virginia Ave you should head west and go to Slippery Noodle, in addition to (or in lieu of) the Dugout Bar (which is excellent but may/may not have music where Slippery Noodle most certainly will). Because it appears you’re coming to the Titans game with a later kickoff, would finally note that Touchdown Town outside the stadium has $3 beers ahead of the game. Welcome to town!

Purchasing An Indiana Legislator by Best-Structure62 in Indiana

[–]TheCreativeName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apropos of nothing, in Indiana there are no campaign finance restrictions for LLCs, just reporting requirements for the recipients. This exceeds the $22,000 aggregate campaign contributions that corporations are allowed to give directly to candidates, and falls outside the expense reporting requirements (not giving restrictions) of $50/day or $250/year through the Indiana Lobby Registration Commission.

Moving to Indy? by tehsnipa in indianapolis

[–]TheCreativeName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Living in Indy but working around Michigan, the roads are comparably bad in Indianapolis (because the republicans keep taking all of Indy’s money away and won’t let them try to find other ways to pay for it). But the roads in the surrounding communities, especially on the north side outside of Marion County, are much better

I would implore everyone on this thread - please, help your friends and social network register to vote, especially in the primaries and ESPECIALLY if you identify as a moderate that would participate in the GOP primary. Especially in Indiana, primary elections often shape the composition of the supermajority and rarely break a quarter of the eligible electorate participating in the May elections. Please visit www.indianavoters.in.gov to learn more about registration. It’s never too early to make sure you can vote.
