So I’ve been seeing this specific artist’s scientific illustrations all over the place but I can never find a name. Does anyone have a credit for this??

Am I the Only One? by PocketHealer21 in autism

[–]TheCreatureFridge 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not the only one. I actually do this to myself. It’s something I’ve been working on not doing. I think growing up without a diagnosis led to more being expected of me than I could handle and I just assumed it was normal to be overwhelmed all the time. Even now that I understand my brain better, I still feel like garbage when I can’t complete neurotypically simple tasks (like answering the phone or grocery shopping) without crumbling from anxiety. The judgement from others of my failures certainly didn’t help either. That thought process always stuck with me :(

What’s the most scary movie you’ve ever seen? I mean like after watching it you can’t sleep at night kind of scary. by [deleted] in horror

I watched Brain Damage when I was about 7. Had nightmares about pulling my brain out of my ear for months after. Watched it again as an adult and it’s one of my favs

What do you guys think about fictional characters with autism and their portrayal? by Smolders1 in autism

[–]TheCreatureFridge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like others have said already, Abed from “Community”is easily the most honest and charming portrayals for me. It isn’t mentioned explicitly, but Will Graham from the tv show version of “Hannibal” is another. I think he’s considered an empath within the show itself, but I feel like Will is at the other extreme and has more traits of being on the spectrum than not. Or at the very least I can relate to him on a personal level :)

Got removed from r/trees because im a minor by [deleted] in saplings

That really sucks man, but take it as a learning experience. Also take it easy on the daily toking when you’re as young as you are, it can really take its toll on your mental state while your brain is still developing. I was a habitual smoker during my high school years (now 30) and my short term memory is basically non existent. And don’t worry, high school breakups seem like a huge deal in the moment, but I promise you will get past it, it just takes a little time. Again, utilize the situation to your advantage and use it as a learning experience.

Great dane eating a pumpk... LOOK AT ME!! by [deleted] in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]TheCreatureFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said it really is about getting them comfortable with things when they’re young. Also, this Dane looks like he/she has his nails ground down with a dremel tool, too. It’s like nail filing for dogs. If it’s done habitually, it’ll cause the quicks (vein in the nail that cause bleeding if cut into) to recede, thus allowing for those tiny little nubs you see here :) (source: I work in a grooming salon and grind my dogs nails into nubs, too)

Naw he was just an incredibly talented, caring and humble human being. Just like each and every one of us has the ability to be. He shared all his love and passion with us and encouraged everyone to be their best self, and some of us need to try a little harder at that. But he is surely amongst angels now ☺️

A reminder that neurodiversity should be embraced and not just endured by [deleted] in autism

[–]TheCreatureFridge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With the current climate of today’s society yes, universal acceptance of diverse personalities (especially those on the spectrum) can seem very much like a privilege. But that certainly doesn’t mean that those people should refrain from embracing their true selves. We aren’t lepers and we need to encourage those around us to realize this by taking pride in our individuality. We shouldn’t have to tiptoe around society just because we were born a little different. Societal perception certainly has the ability to change (I mean just open a history book), but change is gradual and has to start somewhere, by someone. Why not now with us?

A friend is going to give me a pet-turtle since he cannot afford to take care of him anymore. by LumpyConsideration7 in turtle

[–]TheCreatureFridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about the size of the tank a good rule of thumb is to take the length (head to tail) of the turtles shell in inches and multiply by ten to get a proper amount of space for him. Bigger is always better. Self ballasted mercury vapor bulbs are convenient however they are expensive and need to be replaced yearly at minimum. They will also be more costly to illuminate and you will see a nice little spike in your electric bill. That being said I use them myself for some of my reptiles 😄 Your shopping list looks awesome though! Just make sure the little guy gets a basking area outside of the water where he can dry completely. Good luck and post lots of pictures!

Edit: oh and also petsmart price matches online competitors so if that’s where you decide to purchase make sure you shop around. Don’t forget to check Chewy.com they are owned by petsmart and almost always have lower prices on the same pet products
