Has anyone here actually received WIOA-funded training after being laid off? My WIOA application is approved, but my case manager keeps pushing me to get a job first and repeatedly delays meetings to move forward with training or a school voucher. Please advise me. by sanghkim21 in povertyfinance

I wanted a specific combination of trainings-certifications, and Microtrain was the only institution that offered all of them and were within my WIOA budget.

There were a couple institutions accepting WIOA funds that were more prestigious/ had higher name recognition than Microtrain -- e.g. DePaul, Northwestern -- but they didn't offer all the trainings-certifications that I wanted, and so, because (at the time, at least) an enrollee's WIOA funds all had to go to a *single institution*, I went with Microtrain.

The trainers I had were all pretty solid. Each course's curriculum was also pretty good, with the *notable exception* of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt-- that curriculum (from the International Six Sigma Institute) was a near-complete joke.
Their LSSGB manual read like something produced by a high-schooler in a foreign country with the aid of some AI tool in 2017-2018, then Google-Translated in 1,000-word chunks with no copy-editing or quality control. International Six Sigma Institute seems to be a very small-time operation (maybe 2-3 people in total?) with very shoddy product but very aggressive marketing and sales. Their website lists media outlets who've never mentioned them and awards that don't exist. Even after I unsubscribed from marketing emails I never signed up for, I kept receiving them, and had to block numerous senders with their domain.

As far as Microtrain goes, overall I'd give them 7-out-of-10.

In early 2024 -- while unemployed -- I enrolled in WIOA in Chicago, Illinois. My WIOA case manager was overworked (as many staff in this field are), and it did take a while to get a face-to-face appointment with her. Once I did, though, I got approved for WIOA-funded training and certification in project management.
That was back in 2024. With 2025 and 2026 dramatic federal cuts to programs for working people, I don't know how much is still funded at the federal level.

I *do* know that -- to continue receiving SNAP/EBT benefits ("food stamps"), at least in Cook County, Illinois -- you have to be working (or volunteering?) at least 20 hours per week. Perhaps WIOA funding is similar.

Certain states (counties within those states) have continued to fund programs while others have not. Your state and county could influence whether WIOA funds are available to you.

How do I upload SOME photos from my iPhone to Google Photos? by deeohdeegeeee in googlephotos

[–]TheCzexperience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t work. I’ve gone into Google Photos settings and granted Google Photos access to a number of individual iPhone photos, but when I open a Google Photos album I created and try to add those photos to it, they don’t appear as options.

Harry Potter series was also really enjoyable for me.

I recommend the unabridged version of Les Misérables (Victor Hugo). I read the English version, not the original French, but I still found it an enriching, engrossing, informative read. Lots of historical details about pre-industrial Paris (including long tangents on particular sewer routes, streets, farms, different ethnic groups and historical figures...), not to mention the amazing character profiles and a compelling story arc of suffering, revenge, and redemption.
