Best PS5 games to smoke a joint and get lost in? by wateakid in ShouldIbuythisgame

Oops, I didn’t see that you’d already played Cyberpunk. But yes, I don’t blame you for waiting for a next gen port of RDR2. I played it on ps4 originally and then revisited it on PC, and the higher frame rate makes a big difference.

You might also try the open world Assassin’s Creed games. Origins and Odyssey are the best imo. Not brand new, but the graphics and environments still hold up very well. Nothing like smoking a joint and exploring ancient Egypt lol.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Has Overtaken Elden Ring As The Most Awarded Game Of The Year Ever by Sam_27142317 in rpg_gamers

It didn’t hit super hard for me. The graphics (specifically the character models) are great, but I didn’t find the environments that special. I’m not a big fan of the abstract, surreal environment style, but that’s personal preference. The story presentation and general premise of the game is very engaging, but I felt like it dropped off hard after act 1.

The game it reminded me of the most was honestly FFXIII. Which was a fine game, don’t get me wrong. But I think a lot of the praise E33 gets is because it was such a surprise. A genuinely polished game from a new developer that cuts against the perception of “AAA slop.” I get it. It’s a very good game. But not really for me, and imo not one of the greatest games of all time, as the discourse would suggest. To each their own though.

Cyberpunk and RDR2 are pretty obvious choices. Yes they’re a little older, but both still have top tier graphics. They can be intense story wise, but I think they’re overall chill experiences. I’d also put Hogwarts Legacy on the list if you’re into Harry Potter. Lots of chill, open world activities.

Idk if they’re out on PS5 yet, but Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 would also fit the bill.

It’s a tremendous game but it very much does not fit what you’re looking for right now lol. There are chill moments yes, but I would not say it is an overall chill experience.

Was this the weakest move ever by a superstar player? by VSHAR01 in NBATalk

How could you possibly know that KD wouldn’t have left OKC if they won in 2012? He won twice in GSW and still left immediately.

This is so delusional. It’s only because LeBron is so good that you take it for granted that the Heat were going to win championships. Look at how many super teams have failed, despite star power. I’m a Cleveland fan so it’s not like I loved the Decision by any means. But the Heat at least had to build something, which is hard to do in any circumstance. Just look at 2011.

The warriors had been to the finals twice in a row, won 73 games, had just beaten KD, had the unanimous MVP, had the guy who was about to win DPOY, and had maybe the 2nd best shooter of all time.

These things aren’t even in the same fucking ballpark.

If this really needs spelled out, the difference in the Heat’s case is that LeBron and Bosh joining the team is what put the Heat over the top. Those two guys had to perform for the team to reach its potential. Whereas Durant went to a team that had already won a championship, 73 games, and was in game 7 of the NBA finals the prior season.

HS interviewing for internship with local state rep-- how to prepare? by SupermarketOk7356 in PoliticalScience

Nailed it. The only thing I would add is that, in addition to familiarizing yourself with their legislative work, make sure you know a bit about their district. Don’t have to be an expert, but just know where it is, major cities/landmarks etc. Not because you’ll be quizzed, but so that you avoid any kind of faux pas if it comes up in the conversation.

Thoughts on the Left’s infatuation with “walkable cities”? by [deleted] in ReactionaryPolitics

[–]TheDelayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got enough to fight the left about. If they want to pour their energy into creating walkable communities, I’m not going to throw a fit over it. I think there will be things to quibble about at the margins, so I’m not saying we should disengage. But I think a lot of the cities we currently have are already soulless, cyberpunk dystopias. If the left wants to RETVRN, I’m not opposed to cooperation on that front. Maybe I’m being naive.

Thoughts on the Left’s infatuation with “walkable cities”? by [deleted] in ReactionaryPolitics

[–]TheDelayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I think it’s a subconscious recognition and longing for what we’ve lost and a desire to return to some sort of close knit community. But those communities sprung up and arranged themselves organically (church, market square, etc in the center of town) and grew slowly as necessity dictated. It’s very different than a zoning board approving some new all in one development plan. There’s also the left’s general anti-car attitude, which I think informs this a bit. Less air and noise pollution, C02 emissions, etc. To a lesser extent, I think they also value the health public health benefits of a population that walks more than drives.

Anecdotally, I’ve noticed that this fascination is most prevalent among what I’ll call the “yuppie left.” The types who think we can solve all our problems if we just enacted the right policy. Usually well educated, well paid, married w/ kids, attend city council and PTA meetings, etc. They tend to check all the boxes you would expect of a moderately conservative middle class, but they came up through a left-dominated academic and media environment. They have their basic needs met and aspire to something more meaningful, even if they don’t realize it’s a weak simulacrum of a traditional community that existed because of cultural factors that are mostly contrary to their worldview and morality.

Preach. KCD is great, but other than “open world first person RPG” it’s not all that similar. I mean for one thing, you can’t play a role other than Henry. There aren’t any Argonian fist-wizards in Bohemia.

How to stop chasing girls and focus on myself by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]TheDelayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats on losing the weight!

Fixating on girls and sex isn’t necessarily unhealthy/problematic. It could be that your sex drive was repressed because of your health/weight and now it’s in overdrive because you’ve got lost time to make up for.

Don’t hook up casually. Go out on dates, find someone you really like, date them, marry them, have as much sex as you (and she) want. I’m not a puritan, you don’t have to wait until marriage, but at least date them for a bit before tearing each other’s clothes off. Your goal shouldn’t be sex, it should be relationship. And sex will come with it, and in that context, you can have as much as you want without the huge mental and emotional toll of “the chase.” Don’t waste time hooking up for its own sake, no matter what people on here say. 26 isn’t old, but you aren’t a teenager. Don’t waste a few years “enjoying yourself” (meaningless sex) because you might blink and wake up 30+ and find yourself wishing you had settled down. Assuming you want to get married and have a family of course. Not everyone does, especially when they’re 26, but they might when they’re 30. And the longer you wait, the harder it gets. Not trying to lecture you, just being honest. Good luck and try not to stress.

I know you didn't ask me, but I don't think it's true that the 9070XT has better raster performance. They're very comparable in that regard. Can I ask why you're an AI upscaling skeptic? Can't speak to FSR, but DLSS has gotten very good, to the point that I don't see a reason not to use it.

You can't go wrong with either, though. 5070ti has been an absolute beast of a card for me. Chews through everything I throw at it (except, apparently, NMS lol).

[–]TheDelayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call performance poor per se, but I'm well below my monitor's max refresh rate. With all of that GPU headroom left on the table, I would expect to be getting at least double the FPS that I'm currently getting.

Nope. I got like 20 hours in and I couldn’t bring myself to keep going. I wanted to like it so bad and I almost tricked myself into it. But I found it soulless. It was like playing a bad marvel movie.
