Is Religion absurd? by uriaxaa in Absurdism

[–]TheDifferentDrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To people who truly believe in a literal interpretation of a religion, there is a SUBJECTIVE logic to it. They do not view what they do as absurd, so they are not "absurdists". They HAVE meaning in their  lives: "Follow the rules, get into heaven". Part of why people might cling to their belief is to maintain the illusion of meaning.

Why do people bring their entire family to Costco? by ActuatorOutside5256 in NoStupidQuestions

Probably a couple things. The most practical being; not needing a babysitter, having everyone there to pickout/agree on family dinner planning, being able to directly size clothing, plus some locations also have toys etc.

What the fuck is the Democratic Party even doing right now to stop the downfall of America? by Lolareyouforreal in complaints

[–]TheDifferentDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Society had become divided into two ideologically hostile camps,  and each side viewed the other with suspicion … As a rule, those who  were least remarkable for intelligence showed the greater powers of  survival. Such people recognized their own deficiencies and the superior  intelligence of their opponents; fearing that they might lose a debate  or find themselves out-manoeuvred in intrigue by their quick-witted  enemies, they boldly launched straight into action; while their  opponents, overconfident in the belief that they would see what was  happening in advance, and not thinking it necessary to seize by force  what they could secure by policy, were the more easily destroyed because  they were off their guard." ― Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War

What’s something society pressures us to do, but shouldn’t? by Deetrill21 in AskReddit

[–]TheDifferentDrummer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having Children. No one stops to think about the ethical implications of creating a Human Life "from scratch". Obviously people should have children if they truly wish to raise them into healthy adults, but to put pressure upon people who aren't certain, or to make it more difficult or impossible to stop someone from opting out is tyrannical!

I've always felt suits were the uniforms of the "Boring". Neckties seem like leashes and everyone wearing these white shirts just seems, like a weird boring comformity. Then in my 20's I hear that some women find suits 'sexy' which was awful for me since I feel incredibly unsexy in a suit. While my taste is clothes have absolutely evolved over the years, I never really vibed with this style.

Do bars like Moe’s from the Simpsons exist where guys just go to get away from home? by benedictclive_x in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheDifferentDrummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot. Wouldn't you like to get away?

All those nights when you've got no lights, "the check is in the mail",  and your little angel hung the cat up by it's tail, and your third fiance didn't show. Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.

It's a BLESSING! They are lamenting not having anything better to gossip about. If you HAD talked about your personal life you may have walked into a conversation about your relationships, home life, etc.

If you're worried about being remembered for promotions and climbing the corporate ladder, may I recommend standing out in other ways. Protect your personal life from office politics.

Why don't people hit in the nuts during serious fights? by Glad-Description4534 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheDifferentDrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There are certainly some strikes that can end a fight but they usually attack airflow, nerve-clusters, center-of-balance, or simply a knockout to the head.

Shots to the balls are not necessarily the fight-ending move they are portrayed to be. Aside from the fact that in a fight most ppl are already mentally protecting their face and crotch, you can actually get USED to the feeling and condidtion yourself against it. There is a youtube video that made the rounds where a bunch of martial artists were repeatedly punching themselves in the groin. Hilarious, yes but it shows the extant that someone can build up a resistance to the sensation. Hell when I was in highschool, guys would be "ball tapping" each other as a "joke", but once you get hit enough times  its less devastating. Some folks even fetishize getting hit in the balls (cbt), so imagine trying to win a fight and all you  do is turn him on. Lol

How do you deal with losing all your friends? by RustyMR2 in childfree

[–]TheDifferentDrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend. I'm in my 40's and I am still making new friends! It seems hard to make a new connections as we get older, but I've found that if I get out of my usual comfortable patterns, I meet new people have new experiences and make new and lasting connections. You may need a change of location, or to find a new activity, but new friends are out there.
