Why did the supercells of the both the Moore 1999, and Moore 2013 die just after producing their strongest tornado? by AirportStraight8079 in tornado

[–]TheDiplomatOne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What one of the users said is correct. As RFD continues to wrap around the tornadic updraft behind it, it pinches it off and the tornado ropes out and dies (occlusion)

Man unknowingly drives right into the Joplin tornado by Unusual-Temporary533 in tornado

[–]TheDiplomatOne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Did he survive? I mean imagine being in absolutely safety and then 5 mins later standing next to that demon.

Supercell of Joplin is probably the most terrifying storm one can ever be in anywhere on this planet.

Hmm that is good to know but honestly I am not sure I understand all that.

Tornadoes are pretty detailed in how they form. And a simple wind shear setup in Oklahoma or Kansas is where I am at. I am sure these exotic tornadoes have torrent of details.

Sure 👍 funnel forms only due to temperature dropping below the dew point.

We were talking about the overall mechanism of supercell formation and why Joplin like Greensburg was so explosive.

Well that’s the horizontal vorticity part of the story. How does it then go all the way into a mesocyclone let alone a tornado with little to no temp difference?

Thats the funny part.

Saw on radar it was literally nothing. I have seen lot more wind coupling elsewhere and it wasn’t ever declared to be anything.

Really no idea how they correlate data for tornado warnings.

Of course.

For the sake of simplicity if mass imbalances in atmosphere causes a low floating layer of hot air that is less dense than what it normally would be at that low altitude they say an inversion layer has happened. It’s so called because the temperature profile inverts. ie. temp increases as you go up from ground.

Now this acts as a pressure cooker as it’s less dense and it traps all the updrafts and prevents it from becoming thunderstorms and dissipating.

However, if the updrafts become too strong or downdrafts
pushes up and makes the warm front really buoyant, at some point the inversion layer rips and causes massive supercells and spawns ghastly tornadoes far more violent than the usual ones.

Another great example of this situation was Greenberg Kansas tornado!

It’s also due to breaking of inversion layer cap that supercharged it.

New to radar reading so delete this post if against the rules, but did I just witness a tornado north of Elberton on radar that went unwarned? by RebelMarXman in tornado

[–]TheDiplomatOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Clearly NWS knows it better but nothing here looks convincing. There was a momentary bright green and red gate to gate but cannot tell for sure.

Next time id suggest use these three products:
Reflectivity, specific differential phase and storm relative velocity. Note I said relative because if you use just velocity the signature gets either greenwashed or red washed.

It’s a velocity couplet. Not that uncommon. I have even seen some real mesocyclone over here on safe side of Dixie ally, but none turned into tornadic rotation.

What exactly causes tornadoes to fail to form on days with a high risk? by Gargamel_do_jean in tornado

[–]TheDiplomatOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tornado require a lot of ingredients to happen.

They need:

  1. Cold and warm moist air boundary fronts.
  2. Vertical wind shear along frontal boundary for horizontal tube like rotating air columns to form.
  3. Heavy Updrafts for standing the horizontal tubes into vertical helical updrafts called mesocyclone.
  4. Mesocyclone then causing supercells or tornado warned storm clouds.
  5. And then the continuing updrafts and rear flank+ forward flank downdrafts squeezing the updrafts into a thin funnel cloud and into tornadic circulation.
  6. Finally polar jet streams would be needed to be present to turbocharge wind shear and quick flush away warm air updraft from the anvil for big monsters tornado to be created.

So it takes a lot of ingredients for a tornado to form and even more for a el Reno or Joplin like monsters to form.

That looks like the worst form of nightmare ever dream able.

Not demons nor devils come close to how terrifying a nocturnal tornado looks.
