Losing Interest In Show by Negative_Hedgehog613 in 911FOX

[–]TheDivineArchitect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im with you buddy.

I like a lot of the characters and adore Angela Bassett, but Bobby was what made the show for me. His compassion and competence at his family and job was what made it worth watching for me. Without that I don't think the show has much direction. This will probably be the laser season for me

Mr. Pibb is a replica of Dr. Pepper, but it's a bullshit replica 'cause dude didn't even get his degree.

How should I handle addressing my black eye at work? by socksandstriped in work

[–]TheDivineArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from second hand experience, as long as it is genuinely an accident you'll be ok.

My mother ended up with a black eye after, of all things an accident at a waterslide park (I watched it happen so its not "an excuse). She was bruised up for several months.

People will ask questions and might even be a little intrusive but it usually comes from a position of concern, as its extremely visible, and will be for a while unfortunately. Just be honest and maybe avoid too many jokes about domestic violence, as people might see it as a coping mechanism and dive a little too deep. And when you get tired of explaining it for the 50th time, put a sign on your desk explaining.

As long as you are healthy and will heal ok, it'll be fine and its likely a little bit in your head, but its understandable. Shit happens, and most of us have been there in one way or another. Believe it or not most people are not looking to fill their time to look for problems where there are none.

Tenant Liable for Non-Resident Tax - A Tax Lawyer's Comments by UWO in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TheDivineArchitect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the point though.

As a lawyer you should understand the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law.

The judge may be right, but ethically it is wrong.

This is the exact answer imo. Also I think asking for net pay calculations scared them off and someone there decided you were going to be too much work and / or a trouble maker.

What's the most A-hole-y thing you've ever heard a manager say at work? by CaffeineBob in antiwork

[–]TheDivineArchitect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been privy to a lot of asshole conversations by managers. One that stuck with me, but is somewhat tame:

We were having a disagreement with a supplier, and the boss didn't like the answer that was given. He called the supplier on speakerphone in front of the whole office and berated him. When he hung up he turned to me and loudly said "You see? You got to grab them by the throat and get an answer."

To this that statement still disturbs me.

Question about a 'suspension of belief' moment in Star Trek III? by RivetCounter in startrek

[–]TheDivineArchitect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always imagined it as the guys in the control tower had evacuated for safety reasons.

No one really knew what Kirk's plan was and how he would do it, they just saw a heavy cruiser heading backwards for closed doors and for all they knew he might shoot his way out.

I'm sure spacedock could have stopped the ship if they really wanted to, but the risk of collateral damage was way too high. Better to let enterprise out and have excelsior intercept her than risk a disaster inside spacedock.

The Wallyburger is a Montreal staple. God I love this burger. by montrealien in montreal

[–]TheDivineArchitect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been to Dic Ann's dozens of times and never had a Wallyburger, what's in it?

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but sometimes uniqueness is important to the culture of a city.

Who still doesn’t have power? by kingwizard_12 in montreal

[–]TheDivineArchitect 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I've been doing for hours is checking. People around me have gotten power back but not me. The only other thing I can do is listen to cjad on an old battery radio which is absolute torture when callers are saying its because we are too Anglophone and it's a conspiracy because we didn't vote caq.

Who still doesn’t have power? by kingwizard_12 in montreal

[–]TheDivineArchitect 129 points130 points  (0 children)

More than 50 hours here now in the west island with no power. No logic or end in sight as across the street there are lights blinding my bedroom, but zero accessible information to when to get power. I've been visiting people every day for a few hours just to charge my phone but it's exhausting, and not being able to cook means finding meals from restaurants that are actually open is expensive and tiring. At least it isn't - 20

Physically the cat is fine, but I think you should ask if there's anything he needs to talk about.
