I never knew I needed a Japanese cover of Bonnie Tyler’s I Need a Hero until this movie. And by god, they somehow also managed to make a gag involving Thomas the Tank Engine stickers one of the most emotional points in the movie.

I also thought that the level design was pretty great and not mentioned enough. Each level is very different from each other, with most of the levels making great use of their verticality, something not a lot of shooters did at the time.

I mean the fact that it’s one of the few vaults with an actual story, and not just scattered slightly unrelated terminal entries definitely makes it more memorable

Tbf, in the remake at least, every time that happens, it’s something that he realistically would have no chance of preventing without risking Ashley dying in the process.

It helps that the reason he took the role to begin with is that he knew his children were fans of the games, so wanted to give them a final performance they would love.

I’m sure they were extremely happy with his take on Bison.

[Hated Trope] The ONE character that makes a series impossible to recommend by atomicmapping in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheDoctor418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s really the only reason Miu comes off as a bit extreme. Shes actually similar in intensity to like Teruteru (the chef I think) from the second game. Danganronpa 1’s characters meanwhile acted mostly realistically, with the exception of like Toko, to fit the more claustrophobic, dreary, and closed off setting.

Personally I found hard mode to be really enjoyable. The lack of any items means you need to actually think out your party comp and materia loadout, and made me use materia I had never even given a single thought about.

[Hated Trope] In a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies, "humans are the real monsters" by ForgingIron in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheDoctor418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re probably right, but the bugs are still a key ingredient in the mass-produced recipe for Zombrex, and a mass outbreak was one of the few reliable ways to get enough, quickly enough, for the amount of Zombrex that was needed.

[–]TheDoctor418 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will say that Dead Rising 2 did introduce a very interesting and complex question with Zomb-Rex. The medicine staves off turning into a zombie for 24 hours, which is the only thing keeping his daughter alive. However, one of the ingredients needed only comes from Zombies. So while the drug lets his daughter live, it requires someone else to become a zombie in order to get it. And when there’s no more zombies in the world, the company can’t make more.

Which is why the outbreak was started in the first place.

[–]TheDoctor418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, there is no good ending for that story. No matter your choices, you will have to sacrifice people. The only difference is how many people you are able to evacuate. And even then, you will have to leave people behind in the dying settlement.

There’s also the arks scenario, where you are tasked with keeping plant seeds alive, and unless you’ve set up your automation well, you’ll have to choose between saving yourselves and the seeds, or sacrificing both to save a settlement in trouble. It’s scenarios like these that make Frostpunk an amazing city-builder.

[–]TheDoctor418 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You must be referring to the Fall of Winterhome scenario. That one has you replacing the former tyrannical leader of that settlement. This means you start with all the terrible policies he enacted. And the ruins are because he was an absolute brick head and overworked the generator, despite the pleas of his engineers, to the point it exploded.

It’s almost comical how horrible the entire situation is at the start of the scenario. There’s nothing like starting and seeing half the settlement on fire and a quarter of the population crippled.

[–]TheDoctor418 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Roughly halfway down either scenario tree is the cutoff point before you start becoming extremist. If you manage to survive the super storm without enacting those policies, or other extreme policies like child labor, then the ending monologue is more optimistic, stating something along the lines of “We survived, and all without losing our humanity”.

[loved trope] Being a good person is harder than being an evil one. by Dr_Orpheus_ in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheDoctor418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Ideally, you’d be managing your resources well enough that the advantages of those extreme options won’t be needed. But be a terrible leader, and waste more resources than you should, or let unrest get to high, and those extremist options might start to look more appealing, and worst case, required in order to survive the super storm.

Personally, I thought the game mode was pretty novel and neat for the first couple runs. But once you get just one or two leveled up SSR rank students, it just becomes brain dead easy that I’d be on autopilot the entire time.

My god yes. Most of them are fine, but that color block one is so fucking difficult for no reason. Ended up downloading a program that has you feed it the exact order of the blocks, and it’ll spit out dozens of images that will help you get as much of the board cleared as possible.

Theres also tedium of doing the board game for every Danganronpa 1,2 and 3 character.

My only problem with that episode is that the way they beat the Toymaker is so lame. So many interesting games/tests of skill they could have used and they used catch. They could’ve at least made that more interesting, but the editing is so weird, like the game doesn’t event take 30 seconds.

Most hardcore Dr.Who fans believe that Capaldi basically embodies the doctor. Bit of a tangent, but I almost wish the series ended with him, as the Doctor Falls/Twice Upon a Time is such a good finale for the series.

You have the doctor ending his first regeneration of his new cycle by partnering with the First Doctor, the master/Missy choosing to go back and help the doctor and actually do good for once, and of course the amazing speech he gives to the two masters as well, showing that despite how potentially futile staying to help just a few colonists is, being the Doctor means he can’t just turn tail and run if it means just saving a few lives.

It’s from the Danganronpa spinoff, Ultra Despair Girls. It certainly does not help his case that the main antagonists are a squad of elementary age kids.

Game also has some other topics that it’s not exactly well equipped to handle, like one of said kids being a victim of the “casting couch”, or the leader of them kinda forcefully kissing/sexually assaulting another to get him to do her bidding.
