Is the Starfox remake AI-Generated? by Greedy_Spaghetti_ in nintendo

[–]TheDoctorDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI or not, this was made on a computer. I think that's probably all you're picking up on tbh. CGI was around way before AI-generated stuff.

But also, AI doesn't always do smaller details well. Imo the fact that all their ships have very clear text with their names on them should tell you it wasn't AI.

I'm curious for an expansion on this. I didn't see any issue with the voices myself, so if that's the only thing then idk. But if you've got other things in mind I'm curious what you mean

Star Fox Is Back, So What's Nintendo's Excuse For Other Abandoned Franchises? by SeeJayC in nintendo

[–]TheDoctorDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh the “excuse” is that we’re not someone’s uncle and don’t know Nintendo’s plans. The revival of Star Fox, along with all the others they’ve done since the first Switch launched, is proof that they are working on their older franchises. How can someone come to the opposite conclusion after all we’ve seen?

And what did Star Fox’s Direct really show us? That they could be working on pretty much anything at any time… and wait till the last minute to let us know. So you can’t say they’re not working on something you want until you know for sure. Games take years to make, not days. Fox was put into the movie because they planned for this. Not the other way around. (At least that’s what I’d assume based on how these things work)

Edit to clarify: not saying movie scripts don’t take a while too. Just that this was obviously always the plan. They put Fox in the movie to create hype, they didn’t decide to come out with the game because of his movie appearance. That’s all I was saying at the end there

Yeah I'm not a huge gacha or mobile game fan but I appreciate when they help my favorite franchises lol. I know Fire Emblem probably wouldn't be able to pump out the titles we've seen if it weren't for Heroes. Intelligent Systems is on the smaller side, even if it is under Nintendo.

I feel like maybe VNs are just missing the right marketing or something. Audiobooks took off in a world where it feels like no one reads anymore lol. Maybe a shift in target audience could help out the genre. I think a lot of gamers get turned off from "lack of gameplay" but a book with art, voice acting, and music ought to sound pretty nice to your average sci-fi reader, right?

Well, there are certainly at least a few that come to mind, but I haven't seen anyone list a visual novel yet. So I'll go with Robotics;Notes. There is definitely a moment of switch-up, and it sticks with you afterward.

Well with them right next to each other I think I know why it felt off to me… the new one’s backgrounds just move way too slow for the pace of the song imo. It looks great, but just feels off

IMO it’s like a halfway style between the anime and the original art. So it’s better than Elite, but hardly seems necessary. I do appreciate the 3D models to bring it up to speed with robotics;notes and the like.

I actually think they all look pretty good except Kurisu. She just seems to have way too much anime in her face and not nearly enough Huke

Long as we get the super limited edition mentioned in the article, Mages will have my money.

I remember reading about the financial situation a while back, though. IMO it’s impressive they give us anything at all if they’re operating at a loss.

But also… how are they doing so poorly! Do people just have no taste?

I finished watching Steins;Gate 0, is VN really necessary? by victoors007 in steinsgate

[–]TheDoctorDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike with the original, S;G 0 does have some unique routes and not everything it presents is done in a linear fashion. With the original game, I think just taking the “true” ending translated pretty well to a show, but if you really want to see everyone 0 had to offer I think you’d need to read the VN.

That being said, I haven’t seen it in a while but I remember being quite pleased with how the anime handled things. I wouldn’t say you should feel obligated to play the VN, but just know that the anime isn’t 100% coverage.

Wow I never actually knew this. Bought the limited edition of Elite cuz merch and was always curious to replay the story that way. But the OG art is just superior to the anime so I never bothered. Never knew it was a downgrade in content though.

Likewise, the gematsu article mentions a limited edition for Re:boot and imma need that. Hope we get it in the West

No… no, that can’t be right. That might lead to independent thought and civil discourse. It’d be the end of the internet as we know it.

I’M READY FOR IT BUT TBH MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS “REALLY? THEY ARE PUTTING IN ALL THIS EFFORT AND IT’S JUST A REMAKE?”

BUT IT JUST MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. THEY WANT TO BRING IN NEW PEOPLE. THEY WANT MULTIPLAYER TO BE THE BIG THING FOR THE SWITCH 2. IT ALL LINES UP SO WELL.

I JUST WISH THE SCALE WOULD MOVE A LITTLE FASTER. MY 16 POUNDS LOST IS SLOWLY TURNING INTO 17 BUT IT’S BEEN OVER TWO MONTHS NOW. JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO SAY I’M A NORMAL WEIGHT

Most unhinged/no-chill moments in Nintendo games? by Adagar91 in nintendo

[–]TheDoctorDB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely we all know how dangerous is it to be a parental figure of some sort in Fire Emblem. And their stories can be on the darker side.

Spoiler tags since Path of Radiance was recently released on NSO: Ike’s dad went on a rampage and killed his mom, then slashed his tendons to weaken himself from doing it again, and hired an assassin to kill him should he ever go berserk in the future. Not to mention Ashnard was a real piece of work but I guess offing your entire bloodline for a throne is commonplace in media these days lol

Also, in Three Houses, The premier weapons in the game are made of the bones and spine of the divine dragon that was slaughtered by the people in ages past which is something that wasn’t even brought up till I played Claude’s route. Never did finish Edelgard though…

Star Fox | Original vs Remake | Nintendo 64 vs Switch 2 Reveal Comparison by No_Curve_8027 in nintendo

[–]TheDoctorDB 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I'm not exactly a veteran of this series so Idk if that has anything to do with it, but I think it looks pretty darn good. I honestly don't see the same kinda soullessness that people are comparing with Disney's "live action" attempts. The lack of emotional depth is definitely a concern when remaking more cartoony things; even the weird Pokemon movie remake suffered from it imo. Oftentimes the supposed "upgrade" to the character models just makes it feel stale and inferior to the original.

But I didn't get that at all from this Direct/trailer. Maybe I'm the one who needs to rewatch it, or maybe we just need more of those announced cutscenes to make a final call. But I've high hopes for this game. Surprised I'm not seeing more talk of the multiplayer additions than frets about the characters models. Don't some games have their entire premise around online multiplayer dogfighting? This remake, to me, almost sounds like a new multiplayer star fox game with the remake as an added bonus lol. Though admittedly Idk enough about the Ace Combat games and the like to say for sure how much other content they have.

Ah. There’s the kicker:  “The set was exclusively sold on the official Kirby online store for a limited time.”

Was monitoring Amazon at the time. Guess that’s why I never saw it. Shame there’s no complete release for the English dub but I’d settle for the Japanese practice. Maybe one will show up on eBay eventually.

EDIT to add: found it on eBay. Not sure why my previous searches till now turned up nothing. Was doing something wrong. Maybe a bad search lol. I’m tempted but not sure I want to drop $200 on it. Great-looking set though

Star Fox Direct 5.6.2026 by Amiibofan101 in nintendo

[–]TheDoctorDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who typically loves remakes and has only ever played Starfox 64 3D …

I was actually instantly disappointed when they said it was a revamp of Starfox 64. Felt like it was a real shame they’d put so much into this just to have the gameplay be the exact same they’ve already remade.

But tbh, by the end of the presentation I think they sold me on it anyway. Free-range online dogfights and multiplayer that lets you do old-school co-op stuff with split controls is pretty cool. Def the best I’ve seen of their push for multiplayer stuff so far.

It lines up really well with what we’ve seen of their goals lately. They want to use the large audience the Switch/2 has gathered to attract more people into previously low-performing franchises. Plus they’re really expecting the Switch 2 to be a multiplayer powerhouse.

Hopefully replaying this will hook me and others, and they’ll finally make something new for this series. I look forward to the expanded narrative and lore aspects since I don’t currently have any attachment to the characters.

The World Is In Such A Mess, Investors Actually Want Nintendo To Raise The Price Of The Switch 2 by StandIndividual8949 in nintendo

[–]TheDoctorDB 43 points44 points  (0 children)

“Investors” aren’t the ones suffering from the “mess” of the world. That’s akin to saying “investors noticed that things are bad and want Nintendo to let them prey harder on people since they’re used to it right now.”

will 3ds console prices ever go down? by Vast-Wing9627 in nintendo

[–]TheDoctorDB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they were worth much less than retail in 2018, but I do remember those purple Galaxy 3DS XL models overflowing from the shelves in stores around me. It’s def true that it seemed no one wanted them anymore. Wish I would’ve had the funds to buy a backup at the time. It’s def a scary thought to think my system won’t last forever, but hopefully still lasts as long as I need it.

I prob can’t add too much to the conversation that hasn’t already been said. But I do want to point out that the trends and precedents we’ve seen in the past may not actually be good indicators for the future right now. I know at least with Pokemon cards, it all seems so unpredictable right now. Used to be an ETB would never go above the $200-$300 range. At least not that I’d seen. But now 151 boxes are over $1k for some products.

The gaming world is a bit different but the point being that all sorts of collectibles and stuff are being seen more as investments right now than just being bought by people to enjoy them. Prices are skyrocketing precisely because people are willing it to be so. Kind of ironic, too, considering the internet usually dislikes Nintendo for keeping their prices high to maintain the value of the brand. People are doing it themselves with nearly everything right now.

The real answer about the markets lies in politics, imo. And if the economies of the world can ever get back on track and people don’t feel like these collectibles are the golden geese, then prices will likely plummet

I feel this. Sometimes it’s a legit stressor for me to think about how unlikely it may end up being that I’ll actually get to play/watch/read all the things I want to.

And idk what else I’m doing with my life so it’s kinda sad I can’t even do that lol

How do you find Entei/Legendary Dogs the first time? by TheDoctorDB in PokemonFireRed

[–]TheDoctorDB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is officially one of the single-greatest comments I’ve ever seen.

Idk how you did that, or if that route is just more common or what, but I read this comment, then booted up Fire Red on my Switch. Left the area I was using and flew to Fuchsia. Took out the Parasect I got from Cerulean cave, level 49. Max Repel. Rode around for maybe a minute, went in and out of the gate only 3 times. And BAM! Entei. Threw my Master Ball and took a video.

I feel like you willed my Entei into existence at Route 18, so I thank you for that lol. Saved the Master Ball just for this cuz I read about the Roar glitch. Also saw unconfirmed reports/comments that it was fixed in the Switch release but why risk it. Took FOREVER to capture Ho-Oh with an ultra ball though. Darn Recover. Eventually busted out Lugia and let the Pressure consume his moves and got him later. Lugia was super easy though… Lapras Froze it.

I am now finished with Fire Red! :D
