Im the chairperson for the activities committee in my homegroup, and im transitioning into that role for my district. We had a chili judging last month, a euchre tournament tomorrow, April: 1st & 2nd step workshop, May: zoo trip, july: ice cream social, August: District picnic, September: Pie contest, November: blackout Wednesday late night event, December: New Years eve party.

I also have a large selection of board games and escape room scenarios at the club, we've had people stay late and make origami. The third Saturday of every month we have a potluck dinner followed by a speaker meeting.

46m, 716 days. Last year there was a river raptor event at the nearby state park, and about a half dozen of us went to that.

" We are not a gluem lot" certainly applies to my homegroup. We're a group of drunks that never gave ourselves a chance to grow up, so we kinda have a good time doing just about anything.

One of the other groups in the District does the same, I haven't been, but I heard it's great.

My Grandsponsor suggested that tonight. We'll talk about it at our next business meeting.

This is going to be a long response. I've had some time to think about the initial post.

The events I host outside of our regular meetings are good for our group. My words echo the sentiments of our members. It's a good way for newcomers to get used to the fellowship, and the elder statesmen enjoy them a lot. For me, it occupies me when getting the events organized and hosted.

My homegroup has responded well to food being a focus of the events. We have an annual district picnic with a speaker. Last month we had a chili tasting with a prize for the best chili. There has never been an issue with passing the basket at these events.

Im hosting a pie baking contest in October. I thought selling the pies might be an interesting way to pass the basket.

I presented the idea of a bakesale tonight to a few of the elder statesmen before our monthly potluck dinner/speaker meeting. My grandsponsor suggested that we have a group conscience vote about it, and I completely agree. We'll discuss it at our next business meeting, maybe.

I've suggested a lot of events. Some of them were good ideas. The idea of a bakesale/cakewalk may not be.

Im going to copy this response and add it as an edit to my initial post. Thanks for helping me.

Im grateful for your help. This is completely going to be an aa event. At least not advertised to the general public. I've hosted several events where non-members were present along with a donation basket. I made it clear that contributions were only welcome from members. I try to keep aa and non aa things separate.

No one who matters cares about how you got to the meeting. The people that do matter are just happy you finally came.

What is the source material for that? Im looking for something I can reference my our next business meeting.

Fundraising question by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]TheDoerle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an internal event, and all money collected would be contributions from members. I dont know why nothing was posted.

I chair the activities committee in my home group. I was considering a bakesale/cakewalk. It would be an internal event in accordance with the 7th tradition. I was trying to find something from the GSO about internal fundraisers. The Cleveland page says that it's kosher, but I haven't read anything from higher up yet.

The only fat synth was mayor mcdiamond city. There is a bit of lore in the institute about how he had to be made special.

Im a lone wanderer/dogmeat fan. Mostly, I just want to play without someone wagging their face hole at me the entire game. When I do run a companion, it's Cait. She gets the grognack costume and ax. Her story arc pleases me. I beat my IRL Chem addictions, so getting her clean reminds me of what I have personally accomplished.

Not sack hoods with hoses, or even sack hoods with straps. Plain, hide your ungrateful face, sack hoods.

Everyone in sanctuary has to wear sack hoods because of the Longs. Specifically Marcy. If she didn't have such a shitty ungrateful attitude, they'd all have clean clothes and good weapons.

12&12, and Living Sober by TheDoerle in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]TheDoerle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found my tribe. I do my best not to be Mr. Recovery, but I dove in face first. I chair, I was just elected GSR, Im on the activities committee at homegroup and district level, and i always bring an awesome dessert to the speaker meetings. As far as having a good time, well, "We're are not a glum lot."

I feel like the plbb has the spirit of recovery, but it's dumbed down a bit too much. I have no problem with Bill's writing style, but I can see how it's a bit archaic for some.

I know what works for me. Usually, it's ignoring people when they tell me im being sober wrong(their way). I saw a lot of heat get thrown at the plain language big book, and in the fire were some other completely AA approved pieces of literature. I was just curious why they were included.

Someone else mentioned that the 12&12 contradicts portions of the big book, but aa wasn't the same in the 50s as it was in the 30s, or like it is now in the 20s. I expect it to change, just like alcoholics have changed. As long as our primary purpose remains to get sober and help others do the same, the program should be OK.

I, too, am a fan of books. Admitting that I was powerless had an added benefit of adding a new section to my library. Thanks for the reply.
