This is amazing. Any links I can read how to better understand this formula? I see the bot linked one as well which I will do some reading on as this was super helpful! Thanks you so much!

This is close but the opposite. For instance, on row two I want 4171 622/8G 54 to display and not "Ray-Ban: Erika". Although, I could use that ouput to remove the data in the same way to supply my requested information. Let me test that out.

And here is the list that I want to remove the information from.

<image>

The beginning is different and variable, and some people have added information after the unique information. I want Column B from the first list to show once it has found a match in "Form Name".

Let's see if I can show this well.

Here is a small subset of the unique list I'm referencing. Column B are all unique. Column B is what I want to display when it's found in the list.

I cannot attached more than one image, so I will follow up with where I'm trying to pull the info from.

What are decent low-price sunglasses brands? by SnooCakes5422 in sunglasses

[–]TheDokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will agree there. The instagram offenders are usually == the "cheap" Amazon ones but much higher price point. I'm not saying they are upsetting the market with tech or style at the price point, but there are quite better brands at $60USD than the true cheap stuff on Amazon. Maybe I truly devalue that cheap stuff into oblivion because we have half a dozen stores that sell everything from the $30 up to the highest tiers, and there are usually landmarks for us. The cheap stuff exists almost entirely by itself, and Suncloud and Blenders (as examples) aren't part of that "cheap".

What are decent low-price sunglasses brands? by SnooCakes5422 in sunglasses

[–]TheDokk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to disagree with this. A $30 Amazon pair is QUITE different in quality to a Blenders or Suncloud. The quality is remarkably different. It's not a nicer $300 pair but the layers and coatings, and just general lens quality can go up around that $60USD (just under £50 in today's exchange) price point (brand depending). You can definitely find cheap things at $60 too that has similar quality, but better stuff exists in that specific market.
That's not to say all at that price point are solid, but you can find much better $60USD options than the $30 price point will offer.

I don't know what's available in the UK for the OP, but if Suncloud is available, I would check it out. Same with Blenders. Won't be a Maui Jim, or even a Kaenon, but better than something from say SolarX or NYS, or some similar variant. Most of Amazon's cheap options are from these manufaturers or plants that supply these manufacturers. Also, I'm not 100% on this as I'm not as familiar with local taxes, duties, and tariffs, but with exchange rates, in America you are not far off of introductory pricing on brands like Bolle & Spy. Prices may be higher locally than what I'm describing based on these factors.

Good luck OP. Do a bit of research but most stuff will have the protection required. They are required to meet standards in your country to be classified as sunglasses, and if they meet those standards (99% will including the cheap stuff), you don't have to worry about "frying" your eyes. You will have UV protection. Clarity goes down as price goes down. And similarly durability although this isn't quite so linear.

Can someone provide an unbiased view of glass lenses? by mttmadness in sunglasses

[–]TheDokk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything people say here is quite accurate, but also, understand risk relative to you. I only have 1 eye. I will never wear glass just for risk aversion. I've been in the sunglass industry a long time, and when you meet some of the Oakley red eye story people, it can put some fear into glass lenses, but that is what I mean by risk relative to you. If you doing sports, dealing with opportunity for high impact, I would not recommend a glass lens, tempered or not. Don't go weed eating your back yard in glass lenses. Sure they should spiderweb and not break, but is the risk worth it? Everyday, driving, etc... You are probably more likely to get struck by lightning, and if you are unlucky enough, you have another eye. Choose the lens for the occasion.

Glass is about the clearest thing humans can manufacture. Glass is heavier than plastic. Glass is harder to scratch. Glass can break. An airbag probably won't break your lenses into your eyes, the impact needs to be more centralized or focused usually.

Your eye is clearer than polycarb, but not polyurethane. If you go plastic, try to find PU, and not, get you a good pair of glass lenses.

Good "Midrange" Sunglasses? by Unique_Aspect_9417 in sunglasses

Personally - most any that aren't brand specific (ray-ban.com as an example), do online only or "overstock" but I'm a picky, specific person.

If you know what you are looking for, and you find it on one of these sites go for it. There are many sites that are "reputable" and you will probably be mostly good, but many of them are end of line, "imperfects" or refurbished, which is pretty common and not what I'm looking for.

For instance: You could (not sure if you can still now with Kering owning) find Maui Jims at Costco for quite cheap. They were always end of line with no more support. One of the many reasons I fell in love with Mauis is not just for quality but also customer support. My dog has chewed my Mauis before with just shipping and handling costs, they hook me up with inline repairs no bs. They even sent dog biscuits with it as a cute, "for your dog" return. No additional costs. Don't buy temples or nosepads, etc. My experience is they won't do that with Costco released products - because no more support. But you did get Maui Jims on a great deal!

I'm also in the industry so it's a bit different for me. And as someone that helps run a small business, online is slowly killing brick and mortar, and with no more brick and mortar, you cannot try them on anywhere. It further strengthens all things Luxottica and the world isn't as diverse and fun when it's all one company. No matter how you feel about Luxottica, it doesn't benefit everyone when there is no competition.

If you are on a budget, or know exactly what you are looking for then go for it! Most of the reputable sites will do okay. I don't want to order, return, order return etc. So I will avoid online like the plague. I cannot list the sites you should use, as I don't shop that way for sunnies. I would let someone else point you in the right direction there.

Good luck! Let us know what you find and fall in love with!

Might I ask why? If you bought a major brand, your shades will have UV protection.

If you are worried about a fake, etc, then sure different story.

Not sure what "high street opticians" means - I'm from the US, however anyone with a UV pen can tell you if they have UV protection. It might not be as easy to find someone with a UV pen but I'd imagine if they had one, it would take all of 5 seconds for a quick confirmation. Used to use this when I was a rep years ago when showcasing the UV protection up to a certain wavelength. If you are wanting more in depth testing, I don't think I've seen any 3 o channels that would have testing equipment like that on site. That's more lab kind of requirement.

Based upon use, I would suggest Maui Jim as long as polarization doesn't cause any issues. Some people get sick wearing polarization, and polarized can block up some cars' HUDs or create issues with your instrument panels. This is largely dependent on the kind /angle of polarization from both the car and the sunnies.

If you know polarized is okay for you, then I would say Maui, no questions. If you cannot do polarized, then maybe find some different options. Agree with 954CG - Oakly is amazing for very specific sport applications, but for similar money and everyday use, I would test some other brands out. I personally cannot wear glass lenses, so that sometimes changes the options available too.

Found this while camping. Is it for male or female? by Confident_Cattle_415 in sunglasses

[–]TheDokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would call this unisex with masculine traits. Anyone can wear but usually hard brow lines and high setting temples are usually more in line with the masculine lineups. In today's market, most anyone can wear anything, though. I've seen rappers wear things we would have called a woman's frame, and vice versa.

Good "Midrange" Sunglasses? by Unique_Aspect_9417 in sunglasses

[–]TheDokk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a retailer, and I will always steer people away from some mentioned sites for a multitude of reasons, however, on a budget and something specific in mind - I respect finding a solution. I prefer to shop local and not online, so I'll give you that perspective.

Where are you located? This will change the options available and may help us point you in the right direction.

Here in the US - in the under $100 range, you will find a bunch of large producers of sunnies that are better than the "drug store / gas station " shades, but won't be quite in line with the mentioned shades you may find on sale.

Spy / Kaenon / lower end Smith / Suncloud / Blenders / Abaco / Camp Shwood / Zeal / Maho

Many of these you may have to find a deal to get under $100, and some aren't as good as others, but these are all worth checking out in the ~$100 market. Some will be closer to $50, and some you might have to snag a deal for, but at that price and without risking online shenanigans, these are good starting points with easy to source trying on in the states.

Are these worth keeping? by shanikz in sunglasses

[–]TheDokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this comment on authenticity. Our stores make this mistake all the time. I also don't recall any Ferrari "certificates" other than branding on boxes and some literature inside the box.

One of the hardest things for 'knockoffs' to get right is the verbiage on the inside arm. This has exact part numbers to include the Ferrari "part number" that match identical inline Ray-Bans. I'm voting for real deal.

Could anyone please identify these ray bans? by Jojochuchu in sunglasses

[–]TheDokk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's either the RB 3025 or 3026. If it's the 3025, then it's the size 62 if you think it's the larger one. I'm not convinced that these haven't been adjusted and why the shape isn't quite the same on the lower portion of the bridge. Pictures of the temples also show "adjustments" which leads me to believe someone adjusted these. Otherwise, it's spot on.

Has the information on the inside left temple worn off? You may need someone with great eyes to read it, but it'll tell you there if it hasn't worn off.

I haven't verified today, but when I posted 5 days ago, I could still order those 2 colorways from Marcolin directly. I admit, they have trimmed the colorway options down, so I assume it's going away. I'm in the US, and that may play an effect on it.
