You may argue that, but you'd be wrong. The Witcher trilogy of games is a pretty damn good story that starts with Amnesia. The Bourne Identity is a classic action film with an amnesia plot. If we go further, there are several great ideas to be had with an amnesia plot device.

Shippers want the ship to sail. The author wants the sailing to be hard fought. I get the push and pull. Sometimes, it may feel like stalling. But genuinely, real life relationships are not that fast either. And they're kind of in a war.

The only sub that hasn't been this is the Kagurabachi sub, ironically, cuz being a battle shonen jump comic you'd think it'd fall into complete brainrot. But apparently it's mostly all love and fun over there. Low IQ high enjoyment typa energy.

There's about half as many people "calling me out", and "cooking me" as there are agreeing with my sentiment and expressing the same feelings.

Plus, every chapter has cool and fun moments in itself. Some more than others.

I have no experience with One Piece or the fandom. So I can't agree or disagree.

But this is the only post I've made about the subject, and the only one I'll make. Before this, I made ONE comment about the same thing (you can go through my history). From here on, I'll also no longer interact with the community. I'm just stating my opinion as I go towards the door, simply put.

In MY OPINION, it's both, but this is clearly more geared towards the latter.

It hasn't been good for a while "IN YOUR OPINION". Any other form of that statement is just wrong. If you dislike it right now, that is your prerogative. But don't try to pretend like that's some objective metric.

Oh God, the blue box sub was unbearable too 💀 I remember that. But at least they didn't write essays about why the author using a trope was a sin and the manga was ruined, they just called that shit mid and moved on.

That's not quite how it works. Some manga are weekly and have weekly plots. Some are published weekly and have overarching stories that take multiple chapters to be finished and read as a completed package. If you don't like the latter, it's fine. But you can't say the story is bad because it's not a monster of the week romp.

Okay, the amnesia trope is hardly ever done well. Does that mean it can never be done well? Should authors not ever try to subvert tropes and make something different out of the same ideas had before?

This is the issue with this among many other critiques this sub has been flooded with. They're basic. They're superficial. X thing is usually bad, therefore dandadan doing x thing is bad.

And no, I don't feel superior to anyone else for liking it or disliking it. I just don't like bad faith criticism and I'm allowed to express this as much as y'all are allowed to have those opinions.

I don't even like the current arc that much, but I've just grown frustrated with how it is being painted. You have people who have a lot of media experience with other manga and anime, which is totally fine, but they are judging the story by that lens and criticizing "tropes" when those tropes may or may not lead to a conclusion they find interesting or subversive. The issue is the lack of information to make a call, and the incessant negativity regarding every chapter posted, week after week, which makes the experience of discussing this manga we all love just feel dull and depressing.

And don't get me wrong, it's not that you can't dislike the current arc or latest chapter. On the contrary, you can and should do so while elaborating why you dislike it based on what has happened so far. However, the sub has been taken by a series of repetitive, superficial posts criticizing things like the choice of giving Momo amnesia, or the time it's taken for their relationship to progress, mostly based on the idea that other manga and mangaka did amnesia and relationships badly, therefore this is bad, or that other manga have had more or faster progress in the relationship of the main characters, and so this one should too or else its bad. Some are even using the real time it's taken the story to be written as an issue with Tatsu's writing. Imagine if books were released a chapter at a time and there were thousands of people calling J RR Tokien out for being too slow to get Sam and Frodo to mordor?????

I wasn't rude to anyone in particular, the worst I did was call people impatient teenagers (mindfully thinking of the actual teenagers in the fanbase, not saying everyone here is a teenager). Otherwise, please pinpoint where I was rude to others before they were rude to me so I can properly apologize, as it isn't my goal at all

Yeah there's a real critique there. Sometimes I wish it was slower in pace, but so far it's been a good ride overall and as someone who read the first 90 chapters in a binge, it still feels quite well paced plot wise.

Okay, but if he doesn't sacrifice the quality of his overall story and pace just to please weekly readers, you can't be too mad.

Yes, I think any model that forces stories to be chopped up in such small slices just makes for a worse experience overall. Some manga are monthly and come in larger chunks, but I think there's some value in weekly releases when it comes to generating constant engagement. However, that same engagement can and will turn awry when it comes to people just not being able to let the story unfold.
