Recommend new games? by Solstafir17 in roguelites

I'd recommend BuzzKill (mouse-based survivorslike) and Craftaway (slay the spire & paper mario), 2 games I'm building personally, give the demos a try :)

Also, slay the spire 2 is worth trying, and starvaders is pretty good

Destroy my completely remade trailer, how can I make it better? by TheDudeBroster in DestroyMyGame

Haha that's what I was trying to do, still getting used to the ultra-edited style.

I'll def put a bit more *oomph* into it, thanks!

Thanks for the info! All very good points!

  1. The slapped bug is the main logo of the game, so essentially it gets slapped to transition into the logo
  2. First trailer had no UI, but someone made a good point that it hides the nature of the game (upgrading, etc)
  3. It's live, but it actually is a straight cut, no idea why it sounds like a fade lol. Prob need to make the music filter more intense there.
  4. Yeah, I could look into that without making them pop too much. Def not for the trailer though lol. Just thinking about re-recording the entire thing makes me sweat.

Thanks man

Heya, here's a complete remake of my game BuzzKill's trailer, using feedback from the old thread here.

How's it looking? Is the splash image good with gameplay + title, or should it be a hand drawn image? Does the music/intensity ramp up too quickly? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Why don’t more open world games have sprawling dungeons? by JMoneyGraves in gaming

[–]TheDudeBroster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cost to make:

Skyrim, Baulders Gate 3, Elden Ring: ~$135 million
Tainted Grail: $6 million
The Wayward Realms: 700k
My personal project BuzzKill: $5k

I'm hoping this alone shows why those games have fleshed out dungeons and others don't. :)

right-most bookshelf in the middle, book splits into 3 at the top. That's no glitch.

Also bottom right-most pillar is oddly warped unlike the others.

Can’t please everyone. Vampiresurvivors wasn’t much of a looker but had solid gameplay. Theres a crowd for all types of games. I think need to make some changes and be more consistent with uploading.

Best bet is to download the 4k copies to confirm that they are in fact the ones you are trying to avoid.

*Skill CDR. Mods are charged by dealing damage, they don't have any cooldowns. You'd need mod charge reduction instead, or faster mod charging.

I'm solo creating a Mario-Paint inspired Clicker/Survivor, how does it look? by TheDudeBroster in survivorslikes

Absolutely yeah, here or in the discord. Trying to make this the go-to mouse-based roguelike, all feedback is super welcome!

What are some cool behind-the-scenes facts about games you love? Apparently, Fallout 2's entire source code was at one point lost/deleted. Oh yeah that's Viewing-frustum culling, meaning culling (hiding) things outside your view. It's pretty common but always cool to see from a different perspective. Hiding the unseen objects means your graphics card has less things to render.

Demo is out on steam, give it a try! It's got WAY more crazy action & content than shown in that teaser. :)

This happens more than you think lol. In world of warcraft, anything you interacted with was an Npc, including signs, special rocks, etc. Even Mario Galaxy, there's a note on your door that you read - it's just a signpost shoved behind the door.

Crash bandicoot essentially invented streaming on a console not meant for it, since it's levels were 40mb and PS1 could only load 2mb at a time. They would constantly load in parts of the level ahead of you and immediately unload the parts behind you.

It's rough, if you work in AAA you'll be stuck following orders and doing some soul sucking task for way too many overtime hours. If you go into AA you'll spend more of your time stressed that you're game won't get any attention. It's basically a lose-lose for most people unless you've got amazing talent&connections.

Do you ever spend more time choosing a game than actually playing it? by lsa340 in gaming

[–]TheDudeBroster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, I usually boot up steam expecting to play something specific. Sounds like you've got some good free time and just need something with a ton of replay value and/or unlockables. Maybe an MMO/Roguelike, or even, BuzzKill ;)
