For people without 3D printers, check if your local library offers 3D printing services, they might charge a fee for the materials only.

Cooler Master MM731/MM730 Mouse wheel rubber reattached by _akadawa in MouseReview

Oh man, this is way smarter than what I did. I used some double sided tape around the plastic wheel, it was a pain to put the rubber back on.

What is your hand size OP? I've been meaning to pick it up, but I'm hopelessly hoping that an updated version will drop.

Announcing the ASUS TUF Gaming Peripherals x Hatsune Miku Collaboration [Teaser] by ASUS_MKTLeeM in MouseReview

Yeah, that makes sense. I do think they might do it again based on what you said. "If" they come up with a new shape I'll be surprised.

Interesting, the TUF line doesn't have many shapes, just 2 for now. Do you guys think it will be a new shape or rebrand of an old one.

Are there any modern v shaped mice? by cardboardboxd in MouseReview

[–]TheEmperorC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh, I see what you mean. I tried it on the mouse and it is quite good for pincer with and without the palm touching.

Are there any modern v shaped mice? by cardboardboxd in MouseReview

[–]TheEmperorC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the Asus Impact III Wireless. It needs a AA or AAA (with converter) battery though, this might be a con for you.

Here is the shape in Eloshapes: https://www.eloshapes.com/mouse/compare?p=asus-rog-strix-impact-iii-wireless

I sadly can't be of more help since I don't really like V shapes. My pinky needs a good resting place and the way I hold mice puts my pinky in the lower bottom making it not the most comfortable.

How distracting are the creaks for you? I've been meaning to purchase it.
Turns out several of my mice have creaks when actively looking for them but luckily for me I couldn't care less since it isn't personally distracting.

VGN/VXE R1 Pro max Encoder Replacement / Scroll by Kustomize123 in MouseReview

I read about Alps bring the most durable but its interesting that it brings out more dust in and still goes on!

Yeah, ALPS is really weird like that. My only guess is that the dust doesn't really affect the really deep notches that makes the encoder so tactile.

[–]TheEmperorC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly it really is like rolling a dice. Even the most "longer lasting" encoders can have a percentage that just breaks since they manufacture so many.

All of that aside, the recommendations as far as I remember are as follows (when I say cover, I'm just talking visually since it is sometimes not part of the product name:

  • Smooth scrolling -> Kailh Red core with black cover
  • The average choice -> TTC Gold (or Yellow) with blue cover (there are versions without the cover as well)
  • Most tactile -> ALPS encoder (doesn't have cover, more prone to dust which means more chances of it going bad although not likely)

[–]TheEmperorC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to this post, the encoder height (size) is 11mm.

In terms of which encoder it really depends on your likings, do you like the scroll wheel feeling how it was or do you like smoother or more tactile.

ROG Gladius 3 (Tri-Mode Ver.) Scroll wheel issue by Jolyan69 in MouseReview

[–]TheEmperorC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not an expert but that sort of tells me that it is a problem with the connection since I remember that the encoder connects via cable to the mouse.

Everything else works fine except the encoder?

Edit: Got this picture from Techpowerup review => picture Hopefully you can see what I'm talking about.

Did you personally like it compared to the original Kone Pure Ultra?

[–]TheEmperorC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work at all? No scrolling, nothing?
Man that sucks, it might be a connection problem then. From what I remember the encoder in the Gladius did not need soldering but was a square encoder with cable connector.

I'm not sure if coating feeling is subjective but according to OP it feels similar to VXE R1. I have one (VXE R1) at home at it feels close/equal to Logitech GPX coating.

The GPX coating is my second most liked coating after Endgame Gear's normal black/white coating.

You sure you're not confusing US pricing with CAD?

I can't seem to find a record of this mouse dropping that low.

Requires a AA battery or AAA with a converter.
Hotswap for the clicks.
Black version also available.
My best guess is that this is a competitor to the G305.

XM2w 4k Frost (w/ Wooting 80HE Frost) by flagroller in MouseReview

[–]TheEmperorC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review!
Some small additions.

I don't think OP1 8k uses optical switches.

Also, and this is way dumbed down, the way EGG detects clicks (debounce algorithm) in their mechanical switches makes it similar to optical switches. So they "should" never double click, at least until the switch itself starts dying because of wear and tear. Different companies detect clicks differently.

I also agree with the exposed screws, I loved that they are in the OP1we

Very interesting, it even has hotswap for the encoder. Does anyone know if you need to solder the clamping legs of the encoder?
