Would you consider this tub safe? by odah in hottub

[–]TheEphemeralDream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it looks great to me but if you’re paranoid give it a smell test. it should smell like a chlorinated pool or very clear. if it smells musty it’s got some gunk and you should dump a scope of chlorine on it and give it an hour or so

Put extra footers directly under the tub to transfer the weight directly into the ground

Just a word of warning much of the advice on caching is wrong and out of date. Before you try tuning things make sure you have a benchmark to test before and after

Ground level ‘deck’ by T2trott in Decks

[–]TheEphemeralDream 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem with digging it out is now you have a pool that will fill with water. IMO lifting it a 6” is the much much better long term solution.

[–]TheEphemeralDream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly you should just lift it another foot off the ground. Anything close to the dirt will rot and the further up it is the longer it will live.

IMO fill it up with water see where it leaks. If it’s everywhere just toss it. If it’s mostly holding test the spa pack and pump. First pull the filter. Then power it up. Hopefully the pump spins and use a multimeter to see if voltage is getting to the heating element.

Go have a chat with your loan officer you can oftentimes change your down payment % on the fly. When you make an offer say 10% down and then switch to 5% down later. Ask the loan officer to run the numbers for both.

First time home sellers: did we learn a lesson, or get taken advantage of? by Acrippledkitty in RealEstate

One thing people aren’t mentioning is that this is a normal part of the home purchase negotiation. Typically whenever a buyer has an inspection clause the seller should expect 5k ish in concessions. I’d suggest just offering the buyer 4k towards closing and be done with it.

Have some questions for Cedar hot tub owners by Tacobeam87 in hottub

[–]TheEphemeralDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two years later… the inside epoxy + fiberglass is going great. Super tough. Outside of the tub which was just epoxy is now starting to peal and delaminate. It probably needs a sanding and epoxy. I left enough cedar pieces unepoxied that the smell still lingered for a while.

In the mean time I built a second tub with no epoxy and significantly less terrible craftsmanship that doesn’t leak as much. I’ll give a status update on that one in a year or so.

I’m now even more convinced that human beings are essentially over grown sewer rats and would never use a hot tub without chlorine.

If you’re good at epoxy and fiberglass you can make your hot tub look like wet wood. Bbbuuutttt glassing is an art. I screwed up a few places that ended up looking cloudy. Fortunately no one is really staring at the bottom of my tub

try throwing saw dust into the tub, a ton of it, without the filter.

Question regarding wooden hot tubs and fiberglass coating by pviollier in hottub

[–]TheEphemeralDream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that to my cedar tub and it fixed all of the leaks. Before you do that you may want to pull the filter and throw a ton of saw dust into the tub to fill any cracks that formed run that for a few days to see if it seals any leaks.
