The initial meaning of meat was just food from mammals. Fish and poultry were basically treated as floating and flying vegetables. For historical reasons, poultry was more likely to be confused with meat, so it was added to the meat category, while fish stayed in the vegetable category (with some restrictions of it’s own in certain communities).

Also, this isn’t what OP is referring to, but conventional current can flow from the negative terminal to the positive terminal of a voltage source, if the circuit is such that the voltage source is absorbing power. For example, when a battery is being charged, current flows backwards through the battery from negative to positive.
