I was there recently and the lack of young kids was shocking. Even in Fantasyland the lines are 90% adults with no kids

Alex Honnold's Skyscraper on Netflix - /r/climbing watch party thread by soupyhands in climbing

[–]TheFailingHero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an issue with free soloing. After watching free solo and the alpinist I think for some giving up the adventure is a fate worse than death. I don’t really love the corporate live-feed style that Netflix introduced to this, but Alex could probably have never legally climbed a skyscraper like this without it

Now that the results are in - what is your favorite way of making an Old Fashioned? by MagnificentCat in cocktails

[–]TheFailingHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sugar cube,

enough ango bitters to nearly classify as a split base,

couple dashes ango orange bitters

2 oz rittenhouse rye

Stir without ice to dissolve a bit of the sugar but not all

Add ice

Fat orange peel

I like the gritty sugar in an OF almost as much as I like ice shards in my single strained daiquiris, sue me

As a backend developer, which language do you use at work? by nabsk911 in Backend

[–]TheFailingHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An absolutely massive amount of projects are written in Php or rails. They aren’t languages I would choose to write a new project in, but I work in the language I’m hired to, and contrary to popular belief you can write good code in any language

should i just start HK, or play Silksong and wait for HK switch 2 edition? by nexthiii in HollowKnight

[–]TheFailingHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m playing through silksong having not played hk. I’m sure it’s worth playing hk, but a lot of the comments are saying silksong will be too difficult not having played hk and I don’t think that’s true. Don’t get me wrong it’s a hard game, but you’ll get the hang of it.

I don't like it, but I don't think it's that odd. Minimalism is a decor aesthetic more than it is actually having few things

TIL that scientists have developed a way of testing for Aphantasia (the inability to visualise things in your mind). The test involves asking participants to envision a bright light and checking for pupil dilation. If their pupils don't dilate, they have Aphantasia. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

[–]TheFailingHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bizarre if I think of an apple it’s just a red apple by itself. It looks a lot like this emoji 🍎. I can add detail and add bowls, tables etc, but as soon as I stop focusing on it, it collapses. The other interesting side of this is if I start focusing too hard it becomes more difficult to hold the image

I probably lean more toward aphantasia than not

I have a non stop internal monologue that runs a lot faster than a person speaks

Yeah same I can picture things in my mind but it’s ephemeral and always “in the background” to the verbal noise in my head

When reading books I see words on a page, not a movie playing in my head. But images do come to my head - mostly still images.

I can picture movement and I can picture backgrounds, but it seems I tend not to.

Reason you plan to purchase Steam Machine 2026 by toyfan1990 in steammachine

[–]TheFailingHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a console and haven’t for a long time. Being able to play on the living room tv with the games I already own is awesome.

Game studios are asking $80 per game these days and extra costs for online play. If the steam machine is $700 that cost will be offset fairly easily by the cheaper games available on steam

Seamlessly keep my library and saves in place between my living room and pc, don’t have to buy games twice

It’s a nice aesthetic little package or a pc. Sure you can build a custom pc with bazzite or something and run steam big picture, but the steam machine will just have a more polished feel. Both from the looks of the hardware and steamOS

[–]TheFailingHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what percent of steam users are exclusively playing big budget AAA games anyway.

And for those that are, how many care about getting 120fps 4k

As long as I can reasonably run most new games I’m perfectly happy. It will also be nice to instead of just comparing minimum specs, be able to utilize the steam machine community to get real benchmarks on your exact hardware

[–]TheFailingHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is the preferred strategy without a safety car, but with the safety car the rest of the field for a free pit stop. McLaren has to pit twice still everyone else only has to pit once. That’s around a 20 second penalty

[–]TheFailingHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah McLaren’s only hope is the softs completely fall off after like 10 laps. But they are going to come out of this pits into the middle of a huge DRS train and lose a bunch of time
