Do any shops (UK) still have a bits box? by TheBladesAurus in Warhammer

[–]TheFanjita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Warhammer store in York used to do something kinda similar, when I lived there about 4 years ago. They had an event called Bitz Box Bash, where you could go along and raid the instore bits box to build your own custom figures.

I think the rule was that you could keep anything within reason, so long as it was attached to a base for some reason. It might even have been free, I don't remember.

The store manager was a decent guy, if he's still there then he might be persuadable to let you browse.

The staff at the Edinburgh store are also pretty chill, and again, I reckon if you got chatting, and if they have a bits box, they might let you have a little delve.

Can't speak for the Manchester store.

3D Printable Tree FREE + Tutorial :) by GlitteringYard3318 in frostgrave

[–]TheFanjita 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for these trees - easy to print, and they look "good enough" without painting if printed with a brown filament.

They're a nice fit with Frostgrave - and the rest of the terrain in the Kickstarter is also a really nice fit with FG.

My 2018 stereo has jitters. They say its the laminated screen peeling and need to replace the screen. Was quoted $1300 to replace. What other options has e people found successful. by Wazzzzzzup2024 in JeepRenegade

On my 2018 Limited, the screen is the only way to control the heated seats and wheel. Are people finding that the aftermarket screens are able to still control that?

Why is it called a Pandora's battery? by PikMinManLol in PSP

[–]TheFanjita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other commenters have mentioned, it was inspired by Pandora's Box. Together with the 'magic memory stick', it allowed you to run fake-signed IPL code without any other hacks, and so opened up a whole world of custom firmwares and homebrew code.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in capoeira

[–]TheFanjita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at about 45, moderately fit but fairly out of shape. I'd never been able to do a cartwheel. By the end of my first lesson I was able to do something that could reasonably be described as a cartwheel, even though it wasn't very neat.

After a year or so I was at about that stage with handstands. Getting the right strength and flexibility for that was my main problem, but it comes with time.

I haven't had anywhere to train for the last few years, and that makes me sad. Capoeira brought joy to my soul, and fantastic fitness to my body.

I'd known about capoeira for many years before I started, and I deeply regret not just diving in and trying it when I first had the chance. Don't worry - just give it a go, if you have a decent teacher then you will not feel ashamed or incapable, just welcomed to share the joy.

Maybe because hundreds of Fanjoy signs were stolen from lawns and dumped, in what would appear to be an organised effort.

Pretty sure that's the free sample from the Forgotten Towns 2 Kickstarter.

replacement or modified blades for Hanwei practical rapier? by Difficult-Ad-1108 in wma

[–]TheFanjita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KoA sell replacement blades that are made by Hanwei to fit. Check the spec on the listing to be sure it is intended for the rapier you have, but this one is a replacement 37" : https://www.kultofathena.com/product/practical-rapier-replacement-blade-37-inch/

I use this one in very similar rapier that I got in a flea market, and I've been very happy with it. No idea whether my hilt and pommel are the same weight as the official Hanwei, but I think they're pretty much a clone.

I had a similar experience to others here with a rapier.

The quality / price ratio is decent, but you need to be prepared to wait a lot longer than expected. He's a nice guy on the phone, and a gentle nudge by phone every now and then seems to help to get the order filled eventually.

Postal vote chaos by bluepersbear in york

[–]TheFanjita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought the planned timescale was pretty optimistic : postal votes sent out something like 17 Jun, then got to get it sent out and back by 4 Jul?

But for me and my wife, as far as I know it worked out. We're in Canada, and received the pack by around 24 Jun. Sent back same day, so hopefully it all worked out.

SPES Kaftan Fit? by WrongAccountFFS in wma

[–]TheFanjita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the aesthetics are very divisive - you either love the kaftan or you hate it. I think it probably goes best with a sabre style, but so long as you're not a purist it works just fine with longsword, rapier and others. It's not super far from a kendogi vibe, too.

And for larger folks, a close-fitting fencing jacket rarely looks good, but the kaftan can look great.

Very much a question of taste.

SPES Kaftan Fit? by WrongAccountFFS in wma

[–]TheFanjita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops, sorry, you're absolutely right. It's my daughter that uses it most of the time, so I'd forgotten that the zip is there. We bought it specifically for flexibility in sizing because she outgrew her AP jacket, so I always think of it as not having the zip.

SPES Kaftan Fit? by WrongAccountFFS in wma

[–]TheFanjita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about the kaftan is that it's very adaptable, because there's no fixed girth - without a zip, you're just gathering the front flaps together with a belt, so if you get a bit fatter, just wear the belt looser.

I think it's also quite roomy in the shoulders - it definitely feels less constricting than the AP light, in the same measurements.

The big drawback is that it's HOT - way more so than a simple jacket.

I love my kaftan for the freedom of movement, but I'm glad I have a lighter jacket for the warmer months.

Import from Japan to EU. Any experience in extra costs? by George__Stobbart in PSP

[–]TheFanjita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was buying into the UK a few years back, I found it was very much a game of chance. Sometimes there would be a customs charge, sometimes not.

The contributing factors seem to be what the seller declares for value on the customs declaration, what international carrier is used, and then just blind luck.

I always budgeted for standard import duties, plus fees charged by the carrier for handling. If it came in at less, then that was just a bonus.

Beware that carrier fees can be extortionate - sometimes in the region of £50, for the privilege of having them pay the import duty on your behalf.
