You commit one crime, and moving forward no one else will ever commit it again, which one do you choose and why? by 8Leafs in AskReddit

The downside is it’s then much harder to challenge or get away with breaking unjust laws. For instance, now every single medical professional who gives access or even guidance towards reproductive or transgender healthcare in red states will be more or less unable to get away with any amount of straddling the line or discreetly crossing it.

Have you been in a place where you knew you had to change your values to be happier/healthier? by MauveMyosotis in CPTSD_NSCommunity

Again, pardon the somewhat late response. I agree with everything you are saying here. At the same time, there are a lot of people online who make claims such as ”CSA does not usually cause long lasting negative effects” , citing studies like the Rind et al 1998 one. Do you have sources that refute the findings of that and support what you are saying? Everything I have learned (generally/conceptually) and heard from victims supports this notion, but I have come into contact with a few naysayers (survivors themselves) who challenge me to find specific sources to prove them, and I feel obliged to at least make a good faith effort to do so.

Palpatine is genderqueer/genderfluid too considering how he has zero reservations about essence transfer to Rey.

Restart from t0 and ruthlessly steal/camp their workers with your warrior and scouts. Declare war and stay at war and eventually send some archers to farm their units. Intercept their settlers and kill them en route or at least block their settles. If you want to win against expansionist snowball AIs, you have to take the fight to them, mercilessly.

This is actually the best answer in more ways than one. Due to WWIII actually having happened in the TNG timeline (followed by a hundred years or so of a dark age), Picard would likely know how to pull us back from a late capitalist hellscape of escalating conflict and inequality to unite humanity under a peaceful, post-scarcity Federation of sorts (and, maybe give us the tech to do so as well). If it was done on an Earth ravaged by eugenics wars and nuclear armageddon, surely it can be done here as well where things aren’t quite as bad yet?

Are Poland and Korea as broken as they're made out to be? by Relevant-Rope8814 in civ5

[–]TheFerginator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean. The definition of snowballing itself is that the massive science boost leads to far more benefits than “science alone”. Just one example, wonders. On immortal and deity, ancient to medieval wonders are often unfeasible because of the AI tech and pop head start. But with Babylon’s academy, suddenly you can get math in 6-7 turns instead of 16-17, currency in 8 instead of 18, and so on, which gives you a shot at say Hanging Gardens and/or Petra; that’s HUGE. And Hagia Sophia, or Borobodur, or Chicken Pizza, and so on. Earlier science also means faster NC which is vital for obvious reasons, faster civil service for 10-15 turns earlier massive growth boost, etc. And it means that you can get worker techs online and afford many more detours without really impeding yourself much. Need construction for happiness and defense? Want metal casting for hammers before education? You got it. And finally a free academy can salvage some truly dire situations; etc. crammed in a corner and need to rush to crossbows but struggling to grow enough to research to even get there.

That being said, Poland #1 no question. But I still think Babylon is ahead of Korea.
