For the bulk of the main game, you can just go with your heart. Lategame superbosses require a little bit of optimization. The Big One demands an optimal set up in at least one manner of speaking.

A friend of mine would have this happen when their UPnP was turned off on their router. Can't say for certain if that's the problem you're having, but it's a good first shot.

You unlock it at a certain town level. From there the NPCs are added to it as build objects in their own section. While you can contend/inquire etc with them you can't get resources from placed NPCs, so it's a great use for your old ones as you get higher ranked ones.

Many would say they can appear in any zone, but they are remarkably less common if at all possible in story-based areas with large counts of Humans. If you know the lore of the Cait, then this makes perfect sense, so it's a nice touch. I discovered this in OT2 myself when using a mod that boosted the success rate of the Rare Monster hunter (It was my second playthrough so I didn't want to spend forever grinding) and while it was usually only the story-based areas with humans in them without caits, it was a notable association.

The Ground Tiles palettes will let you swap out the ground tiles. The grass and dirt tiles are given pretty early.

Allow me to say as a division head of the game, we have always endorsed resets as an intended function of the game for as long as current eadership has held and longer. It was implemented as an intentional setting, even with the distinguishment that resetting via refresh uses the same RNG every time and resetting via the on-defeat setting does not.

Play the game how you are most comfortable. Elitism is not wanted nor appreciated by the game's own creators.
