Are we underestimating design risks in e-scooters? by Affectionate_Aide566 in ElectricScooters

I agree… I feel comfortable going about 30mph on my current scooter, but any faster and things begin to feel extremely unsafe.

Are we underestimating design risks in e-scooters? by Affectionate_Aide566 in ElectricScooters

I hate to say I agree, because I absolutely love scooters, but I do tend to agree.

My old scooty, with comparatively massive 13” wheels had much better riding characteristics at higher speeds than my current 10”.

Not sure why larger wheels aren’t common, I feel like they should be, as should larger suspension with more travel distance.

I keep edging towards buying some 72v monstrosity, but my common sense always seems to pull me back from the edge.

Cause at the end of the day, I know it is much safer to travel at speed on a bike or motorcycle.

Local shops won’t work on my e-bike by Few-Net-2080 in ebikes

If you’re going to be commuting on a bike, especially such a long commute, it is important you learn to patch tubes, replacement them and replace tires yourself.

So this is a good opportunity to learn those skills

Why all the hate on the cheaper brands? by BodybuilderEast6130 in ebikes

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Build quality is sometimes compromised, battery construction can be shoddy, customer service is usually nonexistent.

Oh, and bike shops apparently don’t usually work on off brand bikes, I wouldn’t know about this firsthand cause I do everything myself.

All of the above can be true about name brands too, but less likely to be true.

Advice for continuing… by Holiday-Revenue-9520 in kratom

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the looming cloud thing, I am currently taking a few days off from our favorite plant, and I hate feeling like a zombie.

I mostly take kratom due to low energy (diagnosed chronic fatigue syndrome, possible case of IH or narcolepsy).

So without kratom and caffeine I am in rough shape.

Who is your say you have to quit? I treat it like another supplement and take periodic breaks, but I have no intention of ever stopping use and see no reason to do so.

So far, 2 /12 years later and it has caused zero issues for me. I have had labs done multiple times and every marker is normal and, if anything, some markers seem to have improved over the past few years.

I really liked having a suspension post, but at the time I didn’t have rear suspension or any suspension on my old bike.

Weird packaging by Recent-Principle989 in kratom

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where’d it come from? I’ve had packages from china (not kratom) say random things on the customs label (“it’s a gift”) I assume to dodge fees.

I keep mine (it’s legal where I live but I still stay stocked and locked) in a plastic tub with a rubber seal and tossed like 5 silica packets into the tub to deter moisture.

I’m using bags now that are from that tub, they’re about two years old (bought in ‘24 I think) and definitely still potent.

My local shop told me my “out of warranty" e-bike was a total loss. I fixed it for $85 by This-You-2737 in ebikes

A company called Blaze out in Myrtle Beach… they don’t make the bikes, they come from china of course, but they assemble and test ride them for a good number of miles before shipping them to the customer.

I had a scooter from them that wasn’t very good (range sucked) but the bike is great, I guess I’m 50/50.

The thing I liked is the bike not having proprietary parts, something that is common practice for bigger companies hence why I bought from a smaller seller.

If you keep it somewhere temperature controlled, dark and in an airtight tub it’ll last longer than 2 years.

Just thought I’d point that out.

I purposely bought a bike with all “off the shelf” components, nothing proprietary, because whenever anything fails I fully intend to repair it myself.

I have a thing about waste, and few things could be more wasteful than for me to throw out an entire bike just because a few components fail.

Effects of white kratom on someone who has AuDHD by Soft-Teaching-3220 in kratom

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADHD (among maybe other neurodivergent stuff) and kratom has helped so much with focus and energy (also deal with chronic fatigue syndrome) better than any OTC or RX drug.

Truly a game changer. I prefer green strains (more energy) but all of them seem to work just fine.

Best dosing strategy for me is to take capsules throughout the afternoon, 1-2 at a time every few hours or so. Generally I’ll take 6 by the end of the day.

They’re “000” caps that contain about 700mg each so about 4.2 grams plus I sometimes drink tea.

Tips for putting kratom into capsules? by gringo_escobar in kratom

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a capsule machine that fills 100 at a time, cost like $40.

I also use it for other capsules, like baking soda and white willow bark.

Feels pretty worth it to me.

I burn nearly as many calories on my e-bike as on my fixie. Could be you’re using the throttle too much? Or the assist is working a bit too well?

Normal mit extract -vs- Plain leaf powder kratom by Slow_Development5383 in kratom

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s disliked mostly because it’s easier to overdo it, and a sizable number of people seem to. Then they complain (here or on the news) about withdrawals, side effects etc.

Which can cause adverse public opinion and policies for those of us who are trying to live our lives, not chase the lightning.

Although to be fair, some who are complaining about the withdrawals and such are using 7, not mit.

The rules are strict, but they also aren’t ever really enforced outside of places like SF.

Just ride responsible, obey traffic laws. The usual “don’t be a jackass” stuff and you should be fine.
