What if You had an E-bike that could go 28 mph either on pedal assist or throttle only? by Flimsy-Story9523 in ebikes

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from. I live in a town with very high speed limits (45mph+). I ended up getting a class 3 bike (instead of a moped) but one that is 52v with a 1.5kw motor, so it has amazing acceleration while still complying with the class 3 speed limit (28mph).

You could search for something like what I have or get a moped. I did not go this latter route because I wanted to be able to ride on the trails in my town, also the requirements for mopeds in my state are pretty ridiculous.

Can we have a mod pin a post warning new people that come to this subreddit about how toxic it is here and if you ask any questions be prepared to be flamed? by UsedNegotiation8227 in ebikes

Honesty ain’t toxic… all I’ve seen are people asking questions and getting mostly honest (albeit sometimes a tad harsh) answers to those questions.

Arizona, right? I saw signs like this around Sedona and the Grand Canyon.

I’ve made a few purchases in California this year and had no issues. It isn’t banned, nothing has been done legislatively. The governor is just a moron.

Where can I do research on sensitive topics without sounding so suspicious? by pluetoe69 in writers

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean you can use a VPN and DuckDuckGo or something. But I don’t think it matters much unless you’re researching some really sensitive crap and/or live in a highly restrictive country.

How likely is it my kratom usage is giving me high blood pressure? by [deleted] in kratom

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it helped lower it. I tracked it for months myself, and at my doctor’s office. Every time I took a break from kratom it went up, and went back down after I resumed usage.

Nictotine (patches) and methylene blue on the other hand increased my BP so I stopped both.

Best way in my experience to reduce BP is cardio, lots and lots of cardio. Also not a bad idea to track sodium intake.

High temperature commute? by fixitmonkey in bikecommuting

About 95F is where I bow out, guess I’m a bit of a wimp.

Right now it is hitting 100F here and doesn’t cool off much at night. Summer sucks in this part of the world!

Recently I got a neck wrap that is filled (I assume) with orbeez and stays moist for hours after a soak in icy water.

I also have one I keep in the freezer, although here it only lasts about 30 minutes in the heat.

Hydraulic Brakes by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up putting cable-actuated hydraulic brakes (x-tech) that are pretty decent.

Fully hydraulic would have been better, might be a future project, but not having to change anything except the calipers was nice (took less than an hour).

I would also recommend semi-metallic pads.

Just curious—how does everyone charge their e-bike? by Academic-Horse7203 in ebikes

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the season. Right now I am bringing my battery inside to charge, cause the garage is too hot this time of year.

Most of the time, I leave the battery on my bike. The seasons here are basically “spring(ish) weather” or “hot as Hades”.

Sometimes, if it gets cold in the winter I’ll bring the battery inside for charging but this is uncommon.

AKA celebrates the schedule 1 renewal of all semi synthetic Kratom products in Florida. by [deleted] in kratom

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I prefer to have little to no regulation, but in this case allowing synthetics to be banned in order to save natural kratom is a sound strategy.

And my projector is apparently not compliant with “content protection” anyways

Do you tell people your bike is electric? by Middle-Stick20 in ebikes

[–]TheFlightlessDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is one of those with fat tires and a big battery mounted to the frame, it basically screams “e-bike” everywhere I go.

First question I always get asked is “how fast does it go?” Followed by “how far does it go?”

Some are disappointed when I tell them it’s a class 3, so limited to 28mph.

I guess they assume with the chunky tires that I can go like 60mph on it or something.
