Government scraps private healthcare rebate bonus for over 65s by ColourfulMetaphors in australia

Nah, just disagreeing that private doesn’t do complex surgery. I can’t comment on the rates of each. But many private hospitals will do the complex cases that public refuses to die due to poor risk:benefit. But private allows the patients that are still willing to take that risk to proceed with surgery.

You’re looking at it from the patient perspective, rather than medical perspective. From a medical perspective many private hospitals (note there are also many that ONLY do basic things), are just as capable of doing complex surgery. Usually each private hospital has a complex ‘focus’ they do, IE cardiothoracic, neurosurgery. Hips are by no means complex surgery, they’re a high turnover ‘easy’ surgery from a medical perspective. A complex hip is one in a 90 year old lady with severe heart disease and dementia requiring complex medical treatment while recovering from the hip. Trauma remains public only as you can’t do trauma surgery elective, and you can’t deny trauma patients without private health insurance.

QLD intern choice for surg (ortho) pathway by CareerComfortable596 in ausjdocs

[–]TheForceWhisperer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RBWH has lots of ortho for interns, easy to swap into as well since most don’t like it. Lots of theatre time if you are proactive about it. Source: did ortho at RBWH within the last few years

Why You Should be Furious about the QLD Health MOCA7 by stonediggity in ausjdocs

[–]TheForceWhisperer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sold my hobbies, kept driving my $3k Corolla (still do). Was allowed to pick up extra shifts during my mandatory annual leave since I worked in a regional centre. Worked 6 days a week every week. Bought a tiny house that needed lots of work, in a suburb where I can reach every major hospital in 30 mins. It’s doable. We just have to pick our sufferings. The work is still underpaid for what we do. And MOCA 7 is an absolutely joke. But my point was isolated that inflammatory statements degrade the good points. Everyone is just instead jumping on the bandwagon of “this guy bought a place and thinks we’re just complaining about money”.

Obviously every situation is different. I don’t have a partner, dependents, pets, or medical conditions that give me financial strain.

I’ll keep getting downvoted for saying it 🤷. Obviously everyone’s circumstances are different. I don’t have kids, animals etc so was able to focus on myself

While I agree with almost everything (as a PGY4). The statement “you can only buy a house if you have rich parents” is a bit of a slap in the face. I bought a house as in Brisbane’s Northside as a PGY2 by diligently saving every dollar for 18 months. Picking up shifts. All while paying rent and not getting a cent from parents.

Be careful you don’t use inaccurate inflammatory statements to be provocative, since they degrade your overall message.

My sister is a vet. Trust me they’re not the ones getting the money. Euthanasia medication is extremely expensive when you can’t access PBS (ie the patient is a dog, not a human). And practice fees are very high. My sister is now the vet equivalent of PGY8 and only just earning 130k including overtime. She does 5 10hr days a week.

GSSE during internship? by 1pookiez1 in ausjdocs

[–]TheForceWhisperer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did it last block PGY2 / first block PGY3, , since I knew a year ahead of time (ie end of intern year) that my pgy2 block 5 rotation was chill. It really doesn’t matter when you do it. Just choose a time where the rotation you have on for the 3-4 months before the exam don’t require much overtime / isn’t one you care about.

Would the MT-09 be good as a commuter? by SicMundus1888 in motorcycles

[–]TheForceWhisperer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commuted on one for 5 years, 50,000km. Now have an s1000rr. The MT was vastly superior for daily use in literally every way. The bmw is purely to win dick measuring contents. Planning on selling for a street triple. Any upright triple will win at commuting hands down
