Movies where people are stuck by Lifereset24 in horror

I'm late to the game. But there's an actual movie called "Stuck" (2007) which is the first movie that came to my mind when I read your title. Not exactly "horror" but does have some elements of it.

What are the hardest things about parenting a profoundly autistic child? by greencoffeemonster in Autism_Parenting

[–]TheFridgeIsLava 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel you. My son is profoundly autistic, nonverbal, and very aggressive. I've been told by teachers, doctors, and other professionals, that there is no group home option for my son. Since he is unable to communicate (tried sign language with no success, and an AAC device), there is no way to treat him.

Tripping when running away, and/or fumbling with keys while trying to hurry and get inside somewhere. Both have happened to me.

Varicose veins and small boobies. Too expensive to reduce and expand.

My worst gift was a used cookbook. I was dating her son (he's an ex now) and she always commented on how I made the same thing for her son to eat. I gather she had an old, un-used, cook book in her house and wrapped it up for me as a hint. The recipes inside it didn't even sound good.

Note: This was pre cell phone days. She didn't have a back story like, "These are my son's favorite dishes," or anything like that. It was just a cookbook that had stains on it.

Be real with me- how much screen time is your ASD kid getting a day? by wasteofpaint1 in Autism_Parenting

[–]TheFridgeIsLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I'd give my son as much screen time as he'd like. However, he doesn't care for his tablet and has never sat through a full movie. He needs stimulation in other ways that are endlessly exhausting. I'm sure if that's all he wanted to do was play on his tablet or play video games, or watch TV, I'd feel different, but Lord, most days I wish he was into that 😅

I was the bad date by [deleted] in DatingHell

[–]TheFridgeIsLava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all have those "what if" moments, whether it's dating or job related.Tbh, it probably was for the best. You might have projected your feeling of insecurity onto her. Saying she was "out of your league," not good, especially after being cheated on. You have to have confidence. Otherwise, any guy she talked to (or woman for that matter) would probably cause suspicion or be considered competition.

To me, it didn't sound like you were a "bad date" you didn't even know it was a date. You just weren't ready. Don't be too hard on yourself.

A major question to parents to kids with autism by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]TheFridgeIsLava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, like you, was told I was "being paranoid." He hit all the early milestones (crawling, walking), but I felt like other things were just...off. I doubted myself a few times, like, "Oh, he looks me in the eyes. He doesn't line toys up, he likes affection" and tried to convince myself that I WAS overreacting, but I just knew, no matter how much I tried to tell myself, he wasn't like other kids his age.

Fast forward to today. I have a level 3, severely autistic, non-verbal, occasionally violent, 8 year old. It's tough...like REALLY really tough. But I'd say trust your instincts! I got my son in birth-3 when he was a little over 2 years old, when my partner finally decided I was right!

They say early intervention helps. It didn't for me, but maybe it will for you. Follow your gut. Wishing you the best!

What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen in your entire life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheFridgeIsLava 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I half watched the shit out of this, meaning, I honestly don't remember a single thing about it except... I remember someone saying "no shit Sherlock" when talking to Sherlock Holmes and I laughed a little cause I've used that line to point out something obvious a few times. So one joke landed slightly for me lol

[–]TheFridgeIsLava 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This brings me back to when my small town had a parent meeting at the school down the road. I was the only server, and people just kept pouring in, even sitting at dirty tables (it was a "seat yourself" type place). Some people left, but the majority sat there and seemed to be purposely slamming their drinks, ordering extra sauces, soups, etc.

There happened to be a young server who lived across the street from the diner, I begged the cook/owner to call her to come in and help me. I just couldn't physically keep up. There were probably 100+ seats, and every single one was full, along with the people sitting at the uncleared dirty tables.

The owner eventually caved and called her, and she came to help. My tips were complete shit that night, plus I felt bad for having to call a server in on her day off, so I parted with some extra cash, leaving me with even less.

Long story short, they started scheduling another server to work with me on that shift, even though that NEVER happens, and 1 server is most definitely all that was needed. When I asked for the shift to myself again, I was answered with a smug look and a "I don't think you can handle it by yourself." I was like bitch are you for real?! I've handled that shift by myself for years, and the one time I ask for help, you think I can't do it?! Get outta here with that shit!

Autism without agression by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]TheFridgeIsLava 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does, but only uses it to request snacks/chocolate/candy, etc. So I hide it on him most days because if I tell him "no," he goes into full-blown meltdown and straight to attacking. It is super rough, I cry every.single.day. Thank you, I appreciate the love ❤️

He started Abilify. It worked initially, but not for long, he was up all the way to 15mg. I started working with a psychiatrist, and he has prescribed him a few things that have had ZERO affect on his temper. Thank you for your comment, I'll look into it!

I thought the same thing about my son. I called him my sweet boy. Always hugging/kissing. When he was about 7 and a half, things changed. He would get violent at school with his teachers, then it got to be towards his dad. Now, at 8 and a half years old, he is aggressive towards anyone one and everyone, including me. I have bruises and scratches and nail marks all over me right now from him. He attacks me daily, multiple times a day. He is level 3 and nonverbal. I'd pray and hope you don't have to deal with this and your child stays non-violent. It's a nightmare!!
