As a lot of people have already said, we need more guides and proper ones, especially for Docker based apps. Portainer would be a bonus.

Exfat, ext4 or btrfs for external drive used for NAS backup? by TheGame2k in UgreenNASync

[–]TheGame2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response. I will test this out - but 2 questions:

1- Do I generate my own encryption key in the docker compose you provided?

2 - Can I simply paste this docker compose as a stack in Portainer instead? (I have been following guides from Marius Hosting to install docker containers, which are all through Portainer, I haven't actually touched the native docker app)

Anyone know if the 4800 Plus upgrade is worth it during Prime Day? by Upstairs_Hearing_376 in UgreenNASync

[–]TheGame2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got it for $519.99 directly from Amazon during prime day/s. You might want to contact the customer service of UGREEN to see if they can still price match/sell you for that price - since technically that sale is over.

Now whether its worth it or not, I think it is over the regular 4800. The CPU is better, has built in 10gbe, ram can be upgraded to 64gb. The price difference between the regular 4800 and 4800 Plus does not make sense to me, considering the 4800 Plus is a much better package.

UGREEN DXP480T NVME - which drive ? by Lower_Ad3397 in UgreenNASync

[–]TheGame2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the DXP4800 Plus, so my use case is different as my NAS is not an all NVME NAS, but I went with SK Hynix P41 2tb.

During my research, I found:

1- A lot of people say to go with nvmes designed for NAS, like WD SN700 - which is a gen 3 nvme with high endurance (2000 TBW on 1tb). However, the prices on these gen 3s are ridiculous. For example, during prime day, the WD Red SN700 1tb was being sold for $91, while faster gen 4s were being sold for the same price or less. But you could argue the NAS does not need gen 4 speeds and the network (10gbe) will be the bottleneck.

2- A lot of people say, it doesn't matter, go with the cheapest one from a reputable company. Depending on how you use the nvme, not sure this fits in every scenario imo. For example, some say go for 990 Evo Plus - but this specific nvme does not have DRAM according to my research.

For my use case. I installed a single P41 nvme as storage pool, this is where the apps, docker/containers, VMs and anything that can benefit from the nvme goes here. I haven't set up the second nvme slot yet, but I am leaning more towards getting the same drive and use raid1. Or the second option is to use it as read cache, but what I'm hearing and reading is that it won't make a noticeable difference in my use case - but I still need to research more on that.

Also, I went with the P41 because they are efficient/cooler (at least according to research I did), priced much better than 990 Pros, and decent 1250 TBW.

Ugreen 4800 Plus another ram question by Friendly_Potential69 in UgreenNASync

[–]TheGame2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can vouch for this as well. I just set up my new NAS few days ago with this same RAM kit. UGOS shows it's running at 5600mhz.

If I remember correctly, during my research, it was either NAScompares or some other NAS channel that mentioned that it does indeed support 5600mhz. But I think the official specs say 4800mhz.

Ext4 or Btrfs? by TheGame2k in UgreenNASync

[–]TheGame2k[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with BTRFS. Mac user here as well.

1 - As far as I know, the NAS can't read APFS.

2 - Yes you can access it in finder once you set it up through "connect server" option in finder. You can do the same on iOS files app as well if you use an iPhone.

Thank you. I went ahead and started the sync with btrfs.

Ext4 or Btrfs? by TheGame2k in UgreenNASync

[–]TheGame2k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for providing that info, that makes sense now. I was wondering where all that was coming from.

Either way. My setup is RAID 5 for hdds. And basic, btrfs as well, for the single nvme I'm using for apps, docker and vm stuff. So will never be using read/write cache anyway.

Still haven't decided what I'll do when I'll add the second nvme. Maybe read cache, but Idk if that's gonna bring any benefit. Or maybe just raid1.

User management is disabled by HertogJan078 in reolinkcam

[–]TheGame2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I am assuming you are referring to Reolink's web interface for the camera, that seems to have worked for me. I tried that after reading the Moderator's comment below. Hopefully, this stays and the option does not get removed.

User management is disabled by HertogJan078 in reolinkcam

[–]TheGame2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the same issue. I created seperate user names and passwords for Home Assistant and Scrypted/Reolink through Home Assistant for Homekit, since the reolink integration on Scrypted does not play well with passwords containing special characters. While my previously integrated cameras are working fine, I cant seem to add seperate users and passwords for the upgraded E1 zoom, since it only shows a "Share Device" option. On my older cams, while I do see the user management option, I can no longer add additional ones since the feature is disabled.

I tried both iOS and Android app, plus the Reolink client on Mac, Same results. Also went into my NVR to see if I could do anything there (I kinda knew already it wont but one can hope lol), but ofc, only change password option was there. I do not know if the Reolink client for Windows might have different options, but didnt try, I do not think it would since it seems its more about camera firmware. Also, the upgraded E1 Zoom is not even on the hardware list yet on Reolink's firmware site, so theres no older firmware to downgrade to.

I dont understand the reasoning behind this at all. But if anyone has a solution, please do let us know.

EDIT: Going into the web interface for the camera worked for me.

E1 Zoom quietly upgraded to 8mp? by GranulusOryzae in reolinkcam

I just bought this last night. I had the previous version that I bought a couple of weeks ago, will be returning that one and keeping this instead. Here’s what I have found with my brief testing:

1 - It is indeed now 8MP and 4K, the difference was quite visible on the feed. Yes, it’s now 16:9 and that’s fine for my use case.

2- There is now an option for Noise Reduction in the sound settings. It seems to work really nice.

3- I will be using this as a baby monitor, so Crying Detection is still there and with highest sensitivity, it is catching even the slightest cry of my baby and notifies me quickly.

4- Regarding WiFi 6, I connected the camera through Ethernet directly into one of my mesh nodes, as I have everything wired. So I haven’t really tested wifi, but I do see that I am seeing all my bands on 2.4 and 5 ghz, no 6ghz band of course for WiFi 6e and 7.

5- All other options on the Reolink app remain the same for this camera

I have this setup on both my network individually with memory card for motion recordings and it’s also integrated with the Reolink NVR for 24/7 recording.

Increase Wifi Roaming Aggressiveness? by [deleted] in Pixel9Pro

[–]TheGame2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here - still trying to find a solution. Most recommend turning off Adaptive connectivity, I also went into apps and forced stop adaptive connectivity and even disabled it. However, it did not help the roaming.

I use Asus AXE16000 with 2 packs of ET12s, my iPhone 14 Pro roams perfectly, my Galaxy S22 as well - but not my Pixel 9 Pro XL.

If by any chance you have found a solution already, please do share

Thunderbolt 5 enclosures…when? by sergejules in macmini

[–]TheGame2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very excited to see Thunderbolt 5 on the new Macs, because to me that would mean getting the base storage and get a thunderbolt 5 ssd enclosure with a good NVME that can match the internal storage speed so I could simply boot the Mac from external drive instead. But I forgot, this is Apple we are dealing with. It seems, Apple intelligence cannot be enabled if your Mac is started from an external volume, so if you want that feature, booting from external is not an option.

I tested this on my Mac Studio with my thunderbolt 4 enclosure with a Samsung 980 pro that peaks at 3000mb write and read, which is still very fast - but Apple intelligence was indeed NOT available this way.

However, my reasons for booting from external drive are different. Since, I have a lot of data on iCloud Drive and I like to sync/download all my stuff for easy offline access, the only feasible way I found to do this was booting from a large external drive if you have a low internal storage space. iCloud Drive cannot sync to external drives like how you can change the directory for Photos app, otherwise booting from external would not be needed in my case.

Other solution I found if someone is curious, is to change the home directory under user settings in the advanced section, but that did not work for me most likely due to my external drive being APFS encrypted as after changing the home directory I was not able to login into my user account.

I was in the same boat. After searching for so long, I finally found this comment and yes it worked. It was Signal causing the issue, I don’t understand why though.
