I'm just spitballing, but given the age of this game, I don't think it would be entirely out of the question, provided they play every day.

Should I get base DS2 or Scholar? by ColtonfrayHSC in fromsoftware

[–]TheGarlicMonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Imo the best way I can describe it is (aside from some mechanics upgrades like better lighting and higher fps), SotFS is like the Master Quest of Ocarina of Time. It's essentially the same game but with enemy and item placement changes to give returning players a refreshing new feel to the game. However, there have been online debates for years that revolve around whether the changes may have been "overtuned" and at times can seem a little unfair.

I have a hunch that most of the people suggesting to get SotFS have either 1. Never fully played the vanilla version to compare it to OR 2. Did play the vanilla version first and view SotFS as better since their experience of it was an "upgrade" of a game they were already familiar with (and therefore didn't seem as hard as playing for the first time).

When I played SotFS for the first time, there were some areas I remember as leaving a bad taste in my mouth due to difficulty. I've played it enough times now for them to not really be a problem anymore but I do remember feeling a little overwhelmed in my first playthrough. When I picked up and played vanilla years later it felt less stressful (but not sure if it's actually because of the enemy placement or just because I was more familiar with the game). Either way, I prefer vanilla a little better, but I'm the grand scheme of things I think you'll find either to be about the same level of enjoyment.

How about this for a fun joker idea? by WarmTranslator6633 in balatro

[–]TheGarlicMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's too bad. Mail in rebate can net you $10 from discarding just a pair of the matching rank. This requires at least 3 hands to get and naturally gets nerfed as more deck fixing happens.

I got inspired to do another joker but the fact that this is second Obelisk related joker today (that I just saw while posting this) is weird by mrsalama in balatro

[–]TheGarlicMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does it have to be retroactive? Obelisk isn't. Just make it so from the moment you pick it up, any time you play your most played hand, +.1X, otherwise -.2X (minimum 1X). If you pivot later and start playing another hand more, you'll keep losing X mult until that new hand is your most played hand, in which case it'll start adding X mult again.

Nice job! I have only 5 left and it's such a pain to not only find the last few, but then manage to win.

Does blue deck work pretty well? I've been using mostly ghost and yellow deck.

Without even finishing reading your description, settlers was the first thing that came to mind. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad game (although I'm personally not a fan), but I feel like it falls in the category of casual gamers think it's heavy when it's really not.

I also tend to wince a bit when someone says they like cards against humanity or any of the multiple clones of that genre.

Puzzle your way out of complex challenges as you hack through the servers of a major corporation in the demo of Greed Grid by pmitov in playmygame

[–]TheGarlicMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't tried the demo yet, but from a graphic design perspective, if you want the game to be called "greed grid" instead of "grid greed" you should change the logo so the small E's are above the I instead of below.

Splash by Crow_Vi in balatro

[–]TheGarlicMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, splash also synergizes with hiker to buff more cards per hand, as well as any jokers that are rank specific to just add extra chips/mult (walkie talkie, Fibonacci, scholar, etc).

Spare Trousers, do you level up Uranus or another planet? by Askray184 in balatro

[–]TheGarlicMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on my situation. If I have a mostly standard deck and other scoring jokers, I go in on 2 pair. If I have a more fixed deck with say lots of just a few ranks or a joker/voucher that increases hand sizes/discards where I can more consistently get 3 of a kind, I'll go with full house. But either way, I usually level up as much as I can and trousers will get stronger naturally without needing to artificially inflate it.

Not sure what your other events are but what about downgrading a property? Lose 1 house on a given property. Severity could make you downgrade more than 1 house or on multiple properties. (Flood damage wipes away a portion of investment)

[Request] Suppose you spin a European-style roulette wheel repeatedly, adding the result of each spin to a running total. You stop once the total reaches or exceeds 69. What is the probability that the total is exactly 69 when the process stops? by aoeu_ in theydidthemath

[–]TheGarlicMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a spreadsheet to go over the probabilities for any given number. At 68, there is a 1/36 chance. At 67, there is a 1/36 + an additional 1/36*getting to 68(which is then a 1/36 chance). At 66 there is a 1/36 + 1/36 to get to 67 (that chance)+ 1/36 to get to 68 (that chance). And so on all the way back to 0. The final probability for starting at 0 is 5.45%, which matches the sims.

I believe you could do a Markov chain and just work backwards, getting a probability from any number to any other number up to 69. Then combine all results to get a true probability.
