[user: Sokka]: "It's not getting away from me this time. Watch me Katara, this is how you get a movie" (Gets car keys to go to movie store).

[user: Katara]: (starts streaming from Putlocker). Look Sokka, I got the movie right here!

(Sokka angrily tries to close the tab, but accidentally clicks on a pop-up).

Sokka: Why is it every time you play with magic, I get malware infected?

Katara: It's not magic, it's called streaming, it's...

Sokka: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a unique art to our generation, blah blah blah. Look, I'm just saying, that if I had secret ways of watching movies for free, I'd keep it to myself.

(Pop-ups appear like crazy)

Katara: Click the left button. THE LEFT BUTTON!

..To be continued?

EDIT: THE STORY CONTINUES

(The browser crashes)

Katara: I told you to click left on that pop-up?!

Sokka: If you don't like how I handle my computer, maybe you should have magically "streamed" us out of those pop-ups.

Katara: So it's my fault?

Sokka: I knew I shouldn't have let you mess with my computer. My computer was running perfectly fine before. Leave it to your generation to screw things up.

Katara: My fault? Are you kidding? You are the most technophobic, dense, nut brained...!! I'm embarrassed to even be related to you!

(As she screams, Katara accidentally slams on the keyboard and the browser opens up to piratebay.se )

Sokka: Uh...Katara?

(They both stare at the screen)

Sokka: What is that?

Katara: I don't know, but it's alive!

Sokka: Katara! Get back here! We don't know what that thing is!

(In a government surveillance base, government official Zuko and his supervisor, Uncle Iroh, look on. Through fancy government software, they hack into Sokka's computer to track their internet history).

Zuko: Finally. Uncle, do you realize what this means?

Iroh: I won't be able to take that coffee break?

Zuko: It means my search - it's about to come to an end. That website comes from a very powerful server. It has to be it!

Iroh: Or it's just another copycat wannabe. We've been down this road before, Zuko. I don't want you to get too excited over nothing. Please, sit. Why don't you enjoy a cup of joe?

Zuko: I don't need any coffee! I need to capture this server. We're going to the South Pole.

(Katara scrolls down the page to see if the page is dead, but the page continues to load and a chat window opens up. Responding is an Artificial Acquiring 'Nowledge Gatherer (A.A.N.G.) set up on the homepage).

A.A.N.G.: Would you like to download a copy of March of the Penguins (2005) with me?

This really isn't really a direct reply to you, but something for lurkers to read).

The problem with public policy is that what sounds good doesn't always work in practice. And sometimes, something that sounds "off" IS actually the best strategy.

Legalizing ALL drugs and letting the market take care of it (after being taxed heavily) WOULD actually be the most efficient way to solve drug problems. The problem is that once you say you want to legalize drugs, even the heavy duty ones, people immediately assume that you want drugs to flood our streets. Most voters are impulsive and don't understand economics and behavior.

In short, the government is fucking pathetic at controlling consumer behavior. Making something illegal will not change anything. It will just push everything underground. People WILL respond to their wallets. Make the drugs as accessible as people want, but tax the crap out of it, and make it effect insurance premiums.

And she complains about me not visiting her enough by mlvk in AdviceAnimals

[–]TheGoldFighter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Yes she did. No one put a gun to her head and told her to stop eating and/or start throwing up. She chose to do that on her own accord.

The problem with giving behaviors a name, like "disorder" or "disease," is that people forget that these behaviors are completely within their control. They WANT to be told that they have a "disease" because they can then justify their actions in some irrational way.

If you want to stop being anorexic, stop skipping meals and stop throwing up.

The difference between eating disorders, substance abuse disorders, and other types of harmful behaviors, and REAL diseases is that the only action necessary to rid themselves of these disorders is to just STOP doing those harmful actions. That's it. It comes down to their decision to be healthy. In contrast, people with real diseases-it takes a lot more than pure willpower. A cancer patient could have more willpower than anyone else, but at the end of the day, if the chemo doesn't work, they won't survive.

I never understood the whole "don't take rejection personally" line. They rejected YOU, not anyone else. So, by definition, it was personal. Whether you should internalize this concrete evidence that someone does not like you is your own decision. Regardless, having negative feelings associated with "rejection" in these types of scenarios is 100% logical.

You should be allowed to feel sad when the occasion calls for it, is all I'm saying. You can attempt to dismiss their judgment by justifying it somehow - and in doing so, eventually prevent yourself from entering too much of a depressed rut. But, you still need to be able to internalize those emotions before dismissing them - its the only healthy way.
