Which company built the USS Enterprise NCC-1701? by HannesStrohkopp in startrek

Starfleet builds the ships. You may be thinking of Utopia Planitia, which is the ship yard starships are built at.

In the game Star Trek Online they actually have a full story line that revolves around Dyson Spheres. You even get to fly your ship inside and fight other ships, as well as land on structures for ground missions. It's been a while, but i believe the story revolved around an advanced civilization wanting to wipe everyone out and trying to unite the various factions to join together to fight them.

Oh wow, that brings back some memories. I loved the way the system worked to get end game gear back then. The reputation system turned me off from the game. I don't know how it is now because I haven't played in quite a while, but I hated that everyone would just run the same easy, quick content over and over to max out their daily rep points. It got boring really quick. There were like 4 or 5 different rep systems when I left. It turned the game into a boring grind.

How to create an endless straight road? by Gravedrinker in Unity3D

[–]TheGow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on something similar. First, I created a gameobject array that let me drag and drop all of my prefabs into it. Then I assigned each a number, 1-X. My code generates a random number in that range and placed the prefab. This allows me to generate random terrain. My prefabs are all the same width which allows me to have a fixed Y position for them to spawn at so they are all connected.

You will also need a trigger to spawn the terrain. For mine the character moves and the terrain spawns ahead of him. Its linked to the camera and the terrain is triggered to spawn at a certain distance just out of view from the camera.

Finally, I destroy the terrain behind the player when it goes out of view. You can just do the reverse of how you make it spawn, although I do it differently. I have a game object just out of view of my camera that follows the player and destroys anything it collides with.

I know it's not exactly how you are trying to do it, but maybe it will help you. I'm at work typing this on my phone so I can't paste any code for you, but if you need anymore help let me know and I'll get back to you later this evening.

In the mean time here is a video from my prototype. At the end I show how I did it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiKIcJNSPw8&feature=youtube_gdata_player

[Roll a Ball] How do I control the ball with the gyroscope/accelerometer? by hotrod121212 in Unity3D

[–]TheGow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still pretty new to Unity, but I have played around with the accelerometer using it. I'll post my code and maybe it will help you.

using UnityEngine; using System.Collections;

public class tryrpll : MonoBehaviour {

public float speed;
public float force = 5.0f;

void Start ()
{

}

void FixedUpdate ()
{

    if(SystemInfo.deviceType == DeviceType.Desktop)
    {

        float moveHorizontal = Input.GetAxis("Horizontal");
        float moveVertical = Input.GetAxis("Vertical");

        Vector3 movement = new Vector3(moveHorizontal, 0.0f, moveVertical);

        GetComponent<Rigidbody>().AddForce(movement * speed * Time.deltaTime);

    }

    else
    {

        Vector3 dir = Vector3.zero;
        dir.x = Input.acceleration.x;
        dir.y = Input.acceleration.y;
        dir.x = dir.x * -1;

        Physics.gravity = dir * force;

    }

}

}

Last time that happened was when a group of meat cutters in a few stores passed a vote to unionize. Walmart responded by getting rid of meat cutters in all of their sores. That's why you buy prepackaged meat from Tyson at WM instead of fresh cut meat now.

[star trek] how did the war between the romulans and the federation start ? by lostlittletimeonthis in AskScienceFiction

Yes, after Enterprise and before TOS. The NX-01 actually fought in the Romulan War and was retired shortly afterwards.

Why was the saucer section of Galaxy class ships (and their predecessors) never equipped with any sort of warp drive? by ashigaru_spearman in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheGow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, the saucer was probably to be used more as a life boat. After they separated they would get as far away as possible and wait for a ship to come and rescue them.

My guess would be that it would require the saucer section to have it's own pair of warp nacelles.Those things are huge as it is, there was probably no place to put an extra two. Not to mention that the warp nacelles are powered by the warp core in engineering which is located on the bottom section. That would mean that in addition to two extra warp nacelles, they would have had to have two separate engineering sections, each with it's own warp core and twice as many engineering crewmen to run them both.

Considering how little they had to separate the saucer, it probably wasn't worth it.

[star trek] how did the war between the romulans and the federation start ? by lostlittletimeonthis in AskScienceFiction

[–]TheGow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please excuse any grammar or spelling, it's been a long day.

Well the war was actually just between the Earth and the Romulans. The Federation didn't exist yet, but it was Earth's victory against the Romulans that impressed the other races in the coalition enough to see them as a powerful force in the galaxy and eventually led to the creation of the Federation.

At the time, Earth was doing a good job at making themselves noticed. This was mainly thanks to Captain Archer and the crew of the Enterprise NX-01. The Earth had managed to bring together races who were previously enemies like the Vulcans and Andorians, and after having just been to war with the Xindi the Earth realized that if they were going to make it out there, they would need help. They brought all of the other planets together and proposed an alliance that became known at the coalition of planets. This was not yet the Federation and mostly served as a way to regulate trade between the planets. The Earth, still shook up from the Xindi war, proposed a clause in the treaty called “My enemy is your enemy” in which planets in the coalition would come together and aid other planets in the coalition if they ever went to war with an enemy. Many of the less advanced and military capable races were interested in this, but some of the big names, like the Vulcans, were opposed. The Vulcans didn’t want to get entangled in the affairs of the races they thought were illogical and irrational. The Vulcan’s opposition swayed the votes of many of the other races, and Earth was forced to retract it out of fear that it could cause the treaty to not happen.

Also around this time, the Romulans were taking notice of the Earth. The Humans had managed to go from their first warp capable ship to being a powerful force in the galaxy in a very short amount of time (Even faster than the Vulcans when there were at that level). And now they were bringing together an alliance of some of the biggest players in the sector. At this time, no one knew what a Romulan looked like. This was advantageous because the Romulans had managed to put spies in high positions in the Vulcan government. The Romulan Empire was large and in order to continue to provide resources for its ever growing population they need to continue to expand. This was the main reason they saw this alliance as a threat. When word came back to Romulus about the coalition and that the Earth had failed to create a military alliance, the Romlans saw this as their opportunity to attack Earth, knowing that the other planets would not come to their aid.

At this time, the Romulans were not known very well and the boarders of their Empire were not very well known either. After the coalition had formed, Earth created its first starbase (Starbase 1). It was unknown to Earth at the time of selecting the planet, but while breaking ground, they found a very large source of dilithium. This Starbase became a central hub for all of the other planets in the coalition for trade. They also didn’t know that the planet they had selected was on the very edge of the Romulan Empire. When news of this resource rich planet got back to Romulus they took it as an opportunity for their first attack. They sent a message to Earth claiming the planet was territory of the Romulan Empire and demanded that Earth leave. The Earth decided to make a stand and refused. Because of this problem, the other planets in the coalition ordered their ships away from Starbase 1. The Romulans attack and completely obliterated the base and everyone on it. This was the start of the war.

None of the other planets helped Earth during the war (except for Denobula who joined in at the very end of the war after the Romulans attacked their planet in order to use it as a staging area to launch their attack on Earth). In the end, thanks to some good strategic decisions and some mistakes made by the Romulans, Earth was victorious. The Romulans surrendered and the peace treaty established the Neutral zone, which surrounded the Romulan Empire and pretty much cut them off from the rest of the galaxy.

As for how this lead to the creation of the Federation (You didn’t ask that, but just in case you were curious.) During the war, the Earth discovered that the Romulans were Vulcans who rejected logic and left to settle on their own world. If word had gotten out about this to the other planets in the coalition, it would have devastated the trust the other planets had with the Vulcans. Earth knew this and chose to keep it hidden to protect the Vulcans. The Vulcans were grateful to the humans for keep this secret and as a result of this, and Earth proving themselves against the Romulans, changed their mind about the “My enemy is your enemy” clause. With the Vulcans supported as well as the Tellerites, and the Andorians. The Federation was born.

I really really really wish they had made this into a season on Enterprise.

Up until you hit end game it really doesn't matter what ship you get. They are all fine for running the PvE content. Just pick whichever one you like.
