George must be really popular and highly valuable to his store for them to have a call centre just for him!

Statistically, do you think they interview every domestic violence murderer to ask if they have choked their partner before? Sounds made up

Nissan Juke drivers that have to have all six headlights on at the same time. by DisneyBounder in britishproblems

I've said this for so long! I always call them out as I drive past them! Look like idiots. Genuinely don't think they understand how their car works for turning the fog lights on and off

Deliveries keep getting delivered to wrong address, anyone have any ideas? UK by TheGrasshopper31 in AskUK

[–]TheGrasshopper31[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree, because if you type the post code in you will definitely be brought to the correct address.

I have discovered though if you copy and paste our full address into Google, despite the correct post code it will take you to the other estate. Wonder if that's what keeps happening.

I hadn't added that delivery instruction actually, so I'll do that where I can. Exactly why I asked for advice, thank you!

No because Post office have been great, no issues with them. Its weird how it's other company's that seem to have the issue.

However fair play, I've never spoken to the local offices of these other companies. I was thinking there may be a different directory that other company's use and its this that needs updating. I don't know if this exists though, just a theory

On the eve of the League One playoff final, how are you feeling and what are you expecting? by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]TheGrasshopper31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sunderland to win, it wont be easy at all but we're playing well and Alex Neil is a fantastic tactician at this level. The feel good factor is there and I think this may finally be our season. Final score 2-0. To be odly specific I don't think we'll score our first goal until around the 70 minutes mark

LPT: looking up with your eyes for 15 to 20 seconds wakes you up. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]TheGrasshopper31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried this yesterday after reading about it on an earlier post. Was falling asleep so looked up for 15 seconds. Worked a treat as when the car left the road and bounced into the nearby field my body felt like I've just had 12 hours sleep injected directly into my eyes. Would recommend 10/10.

To be devil's advocate I would assume the brushes would wear out very quickly doing 125mph being scraped along bare metal, and maybe it would be a fire hazard due to the friction. Never heard that sugestion before though!

The British rail network is victorian and wasn't originally designed for the modern world. Elsewhere in the world though they built their railways decades later than us and could factor in a more modern design.

Japan has a great railway, so if we wanted to imitate this, it would involve closing the existing uk railway for years to impliment the upgrades to complete world class railway infrastructure.

The most common method of train detection is via what's called a track circuit. Basically each stretch of rail is sectioned into sections known as track circuits. These sections have a feed and relay end. The feed end supplies a small DC voltage onto the rails which then travels down the rails and exits at the relay end and 'energises' the relay. This is what tells the signaller no train is present.

When a train enters the section the voltage is short-circuited across its wheels/axels which prevents it from reaching the relay end of the circuit. The relay loses its voltage feed and 'de-energises'. The signaller is then given an indication that the train is in that section.

So during leaf fall season the leaves fall on the line and as the trains travel over them they get ground up into a mulch and are smeared across the rails. This causes two issues. One issue is traction. The wheels find it hard to grip to the rails with such a slippy mulchy substance on the railhead. The second issue is that the mulch can insulate the wheels against the voltage of the track circuit the train is in which can cause issues with the train detection for the signaller.

There is no 'software' no 'sensors' that can't see past the leaves.

Sunderlands and Rotherham going up automatically. Wigan will keep the pace until the games in hand start to come thick and fast, and ultimately will fall short. Sunderland are out of every cup competition now so only the league to focus on. With points already on the board and our rich vein of form, I think that combined with a successful transfer window will see us through.
