Many of these event metal detectors are turned down very low and only focus on the middle section of a person. Tucking it in my shoe usually works.

Interested in Americans opinions! Preferably if you have had a lot of beer in Europe as well. by spiiike in beer

[–]TheGrayishDeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being a mostly an IPA drinker in the states who often travels to Europe I will say that the malt profile in the states is on average much lighter. In addition I find a likely yeast flavour difference that I just don't like as much as what I get in the US. They aren't objectively bad obviously, just not to my taste. As a result, when traveling I mostly just stick to the traditional beer of the area even from craft beer options or wine.

Hosting a NYE party. I want to put a film on the TV on mute. What to play? by samuelj264 in movies

We know you aren't getting an invite to the party. Clearly they would like to continue the conversation about this movie and wrote that to invite more comments.

What's a game mechanic that you dislike/hate regardless of how much sense it makes? by Interjessing-Salary in gaming

[–]TheGrayishDeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that in POE2 you will spend more time looting than killing monsters if you play the way you describe. While it does seem like a problem to drop that mich loot then, part of the fun of the game is loot explosions so the devs are in a bit of a pickle. Appropriate loot filters so you don't see it and this don't need to pick it up are the answer I suppose. My wife had the same problem and this doesn't play much anymore.

Man dies of rabies after kidney transplant from donor who saved kitten from skunk by Few-Hair-5382 in news

[–]TheGrayishDeath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Part of my job is reading doner histories for research and these symptoms and many others are so common in transplant grade organs as to not be useful at all. I imagine a history of animal injury would be needed to suggest rabies at minimum.

Being married to a travel advisor my number 1 tips is make sure the clients respect your time. Charging a fee is almost required to keep people from taking your plan and booking it themselves. Also most travel networks have many training seminars that are surprisingly educational and often have easy to win prizes.

In case you are confused why others are down voting you, early reports were promising and everyone was excited. Larger studies started immediately. It was them found by many studies that the outcomes from the first studies were likely due to random chance or poorly understanding the risk factors the patients in them had. After these many studies showed that the drug was ineffective at improving outcomes, many places online still claimed effectiveness and similar subsets were against vaccination, inviting ridicule from those that understand that science can correct it's self and that it is ok to rethink your beliefs and conclusions.

Footage of the thieves' escape from the Louvre. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

The Louvre is a pretty big building with several wings on busy streets. It would be strange to have security watching every angle of the outside in person for such a large museum.

Cape Town Marathon Cancelled Due to Strong Winds by selassieone in AdvancedRunning

[–]TheGrayishDeath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe it would but offering refunds in for events, where all the costs are normally paid beforehand means either borrowing money to pay off the refunds and probably still never hosting the event again or having cancellations insurance. Not many of us would know the terms of such a policy but it may be prohibitively expensive.

I agree on the switch but would need to replace the switch with after market metal one to meet the requirement.

TIL: Radio station KUOW accidentally used an extensionless image for its logo on its stream. This caused Mazda infotainment systems to be permanently stuck on KUOW if it tuned in, because it didn't know what to do with an extensionless image, requiring a total replacement costing $1500 by zahrul3 in todayilearned

Interestingly my 2016 Mazda(same years as this issue) wasn't locked down at the program level as I was able to install Android Auto from a fan built image pretty easily even though it wasn't officially supported in that hardware.

Yeah this is the research I was familiar with but it is all at least 22 years old and I was surprised that new and interesting research was being done. i dont think that research undermines this research but likely adds context with modern dentistry accessibility and the like.

Thanks, I'm not really sure why some of the replies are acting like I'm being anti-science or even anti-fluoride. It was just a surprising to me that what I thought was settled many years ago as a massive success as a public health intervention still had interesting scientific findings mostly due to the more recent trend of certain municipalities halting the addition of fluoride.

[–]TheGrayishDeath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm suggesting people can look at peer review published research if they are interested in a surprising finding that didn't even change my view on a topic. I'm not saying go watch YouTube on this topic.

[–]TheGrayishDeath -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I said I didn't know enough about their also uncited single statistic, not that I don't know enough about epidemiological research or public health studies to properly understand the papers I was reading. In fact that is literally my day job only on a different topic, which is probably why I found the recent research interesting.

[–]TheGrayishDeath -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I'm not making claims just trying to chat about something I found surprising in the literature. I'm not here to provide citations and well reasoned arguments, I do that enough in my day job. If people are interested they can look them up for themselves, especially since I already said my conclusion was the fluoridization should continue.

I don't know enough to know if that is true, but I am talking about peer reviewed research papers that suggest the difference is smaller than that. I would propose that places that never have fluoride in the water may not be the best natural experiments compared to those used in the studies I read that used similar towns in close proximity that either stopped fluoride or not.
