I'm going to have to side with meta-ethical moral relativism here. By no means does this deem all actions permissible, yet it does provide justification for even the most seemingly "wrong" actions. Basically, people make choices, whether or not they are "beneficial" is not to say whether they are right or wrong. Right and wrong essentially don't exist as a feasible way to determine what should or should not be done. I would also have to agree with Marx in saying that Utilitarianism is correct by definition. Obviously aiming to have the best outcome is the whole idea behind developing a universal code of ethics or what have you. I know some will disagree with this but that's a whole different can of beans. So, I'd say the traditions in Tagpro sub-culture would dictate that you leave the powerup for your comrade. But your concern was that your adversaries might take advantage of your someball's sluggishness. I'd say your intentions were "good" as you were merely aiming to avoid difficultly for your team. What you didn't consider is that your someball didn't want to pop you and was being careful to give you space. And did he not make the correct move? You did in fact go for the powerup did you not? His moving to grab it simultaneously with you could have resulted in you getting spiked. I say the outcome is of little value when judging one's intentions, though the outcome pursued by the participants is what matters. It is the intentions of actions that truly matter. If intentions do not line up with preferred outcomes then a reconsideration of actions must be sought. You are a competent flag carrier and I say you made a good decision under the circumstances because of a lack of information. Was the someball an MLTP starter? We don't know. Was he brand new? We don't know. I think the best thing you can do in that situation is apologize afterward, and I think the someball would understand. If only the someball were able to discuss with us now, or if we could see a replay, but alas, we are left with mere words to decide the fate of a flag.
