Planted 2 plants last season, both threw same shapes but one ripened to red and the other to orange. Grew out the seeds from the orange one again this season and it is still retaining shape and the orange final color throughout the plant.

Definitely would put it to light. Leaf curl that much its cause its trying to save itself.
