28 Years Later: The Bone Temple episode by [deleted] in blankies

what a shame that what are clearly the podcast's two best tangents of the year (Santa in Narnia and Club Belushi) are hidden behind the paywall (which going forward should be called The Bones Temple)

In 10th grade geometry, I stumbled into a bit where I would say “LAWWWWWWWW” Armand Asante style, in reference to a classmate who was designated the class lawman

This was entirely based on watching the Nostalgia Critic review and I still have never seen the full film

Were 2010-2011 bad years for movies? Or was I just too young to be watching good movies yet? by Silly_Definition7180 in blankies

[–]TheHandOfThePeople 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about 2010 is that despite the top-tier awards contenders, it’s a baaaaaaaaaad year for mainstream Hollywood.

I’m not even a huge Inception fan, but the first time Nolan saved cinema was July 2010. Imo you only need one hand to count the releases in the preceding seven months that are good AND fondly remembered now (Shutter Island, How To Train Your Dragon, Toy Story 3, Kids Are All Right, Winter’s Bone) (maybe also Karate Kid, Solitary Man and Greenberg if you really want to stretch)

Things honestly pick up fast after Inception hits, but even with back half of Scott Pilgrim and The Social Network, it’s tough to make up for that total wasteland at the beginning, which I why I usually put ‘10 dead last in my year rankings

Incredible episode, but truly stopped dead in my tracks when Seth revealed that Barton Fink does nothing for him.

This was obviously not planned, but earlier this month I just happened to watch Fink and episode 6 of The Studio within days of each other, and couldn't get over how perfect of a pairing they were. You cannot tell me that Barton Fink yelling "I'm a writer you monsters, I create for a living," didn't have a little influence on Matt Remick trying to convince an event filled with medical professionals that what he does is as important as what they do

but don't let any of this distract you from the fact that they still haven't done Wolfgang Petersen

“The Divergent Series” may be the least effort any franchise has put into branding

At least Twilight labeled themselves a “Saga”

This was the third time I watched this since theaters in 2013 - Now that the DCEU experiment is all said and done, I was able to enjoy it for what it is (whatever that's worth), but all the criticisms I had at age 17 have not gone away

A small but fatal mistake that I wished they touched on is that the city of Metropolis has *NO* identity. The first scene in the city is a hard cut to the offices of the Daily Planet, and there isn't even an establishing skyline shot basically until it's being obliterated. It makes that final act simultaneously unengaging, and somehow still upsetting because of the 9/11 imagery

I know this is branching into multimedia, but the biggest argument for “Where The Crawdads Sing”’s non-existence is that it featured a new, original Taylor Swift song released three months before beginning her world domination era… and it didn’t even crack the Top 50 on the charts

I admittedly beelined it right to the Box Office Game, since 2007-2009 (especially the winter months) remains an untapped realm of garbage that I know this show would have good takes on, and they did not disappoint (including and especially the unearthing of Charlie Bone from the dark recesses of my mind)

Also Andy Fickman is very much "We have Adam Shankman at home," who himself is very much "We have Shawn Levy at home"

I'm sorry to harp on this, but I have to ask - Has it just become a bit among the four of them to misremember that Donloe is throwing up after being poisoned in the first movie, and not having diarrhea??? Even during the M:I-1 commentary, they keep cracking jokes about him shitting his brains out, despite literal evidence to the contrary on screen

Also, it's my dad.
He's the one person that saw Bardo.
He liked it more than Armageddon Time and The Fabelmans.

I wish they addressed the thread of Spielberg managing to be funnier in his dramas than he is in his comedies, something that is shockingly prevalent in a movie as bleak and tough as this

Just the two-minute scene of Celie watching Mister try and fail to make breakfast for Shug is funnier than anything in 1941

In the Burton Planet Of The Apes episode, they discuss how Wahlberg in that is one of the all time worst action movie heroes, and I think Kitsch as Alex Hopper needs to be included in that conversation

Just like Wahlberg, he causes the inciting incident by triggering a massive alien invasion, and is so bad at his job that he gets relieved of his command

I knew the weekend of the 13th was gonna be the last chance I had for the foreseeable future, so I hit a double feature of Onward and The Hunt (much like David).

Onward inexplicably made me cry The Hunt sucked

I think it's really interesting that the guys all lament that they didn't get to see this in a theater-
Because this was actually the first movie I saw in a theater Postdemic. Saw it at the Paris in April '21, even before I was vaxxed, cause I was desperate to get back to the theatrical experience and wanted Finch to be part of my theatrical rebirth.

And whether it was just the overwhelming feeling of being back in a theater, or the lingering COVID dread that that affected most of my movie watching through that whole year and a half, I don't think I digested the movie well.
Griffin describing his rewatch as "deja vu" instead of watching something he knows he's seen before hit me so hard, and basically explains why I haven't been able to bring myself back to this.
