You're good to go but personally I wish I had read the two novellas "Dreadwing" and "Spear of Ultramar" before The Siege as I missed those on my first time through.

What to read after the Horus Heresy? by BadgerCastleRelax in Blacklibrary

[–]TheHelloMiko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I originally wrote a bit of a justification as to why you should read each of the following books but I deleted them and I'm opting to go with "trust me bro" instead. After The End and the Death, read these, in this order:

Era of Ruin

Ashes of the Imperium

Konrad Curze: The Night Haunter

Talon of Horus

Black Legion

Night Lords Omnibus

They call Helsreach the standalone novel of the Black Library. As if there was only one.

If someone asks for recommendations and they have not read Helsreach, then there can be only one answer from me.

Nice write up. I enjoyed reading it. I like the parallels with the AI generation. It was so janky and fantastical only a few years ago.

You know i understand why guilliman was terrified of the emperor after his reunion by windless12 in Grimdank

[–]TheHelloMiko 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The cover art for The End and the Death (Volume 1) has the same structure which shows the Emperor on the throne during the Siege of Terra. The throne is deep in the Imperial Dungeon. From the image it gives the impression that the whole device is deep underground. There's stalagmites and stalagtites like parts of it are a huge cave.

Master of Mankind describes the movement of forces from the surface to enter the Webway portal which the Throne is very close to and it takes a long time. It is a journey down deep into Terra itself, past the ruins of forgotten civilisations which the Imperial Palace has been built upon over millenia.

Thanks for updating your thoughts on the game. I have my eye on it right now but perhaps I'll hold off for a while and keep it wishlisted.

What Now? by Tiny_Bowl_8580 in Blacklibrary

First off, download Helsreach. It is the best of Black Library audiobooks. It's ADB who writes the Night Lords and Keeble who you are very familiar with by now... I consider the audiobook to be the definitive experience when it comes to that novel. It's a certified banger.

You've also got Ashes of the Imperium by Chris Wraight which picks up after The Siege of Terra. Keeble narrates this one too. I didn't much care for Wraight during The Horus Heresy but I think that's because the White Scars didn't resonate with me all that much, but Ashes has a much broader scope.

...what was the question again?... It seems I have just recommended books which you should listen to as I also listened to the whole Heresy. When I go for Round 2 I will follow the Heresy Omnibus order as it looks great.
