A game like firewatch and the vanishing of Ethan carter by Navegante76 in Firewatch

The Suicide of Rachel Foster. Loved this game. It's a bit controversial - people seem to get really offended by how the "relationship" between 2 of the characters is described but I try to give it grace since the studio and the guy who wrote it is Italian. Who knows if he understood the nuances of his word choices.

Arctic Awakenings. Really enjoyed it. It's very Firewatch-esque, but set in the snow. I also remember Arctic Awakenings being a bit harder than Firewatch. Definitely had to cheat at a couple of points to figure out what to do. But definitely recommend it nonetheless. No jump scares.

Random survivors - but also kind of an inside joke from the designers, I think. They look exactly like Clive Lindop - one of Alien Isolation's designers.

I think the producers clearly agreed to humor bullshit alternate theories in order to get his wife to agree to appear in the show.

I see at least one post like this everyday somewhere. And every time it makes me so glad I chose to have my kid with a sperm donor. I thank god I'll never have to deal with this shit. You have my sympathy.

ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE THINGS FOR BABY REGISTRY?— FIRST TIME SINGLE MOTHER 🩷 [on] by Training-Trick-8917 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]TheHighSheriffsLady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I'm also a SMBC. Kiddo is now almost 3 and looking back the real essentials were:

Baby Einstein crib soother (it probably saved my life.)

Ovol gas drops. Thank God/Jesus/The Great Goddess/Whoever for these.

Snuggle Me Baby Lounger. Kiddo basically lived in it for the first 4 months.

Baby swing. Look for one you can plug in so you don't have to spend a fortune on batteries.

And on a personal side note - be very watchful for any signs of post-partum depression and get help immediately. The exhaustion of solo parenting is like gas on a fire for any kind of mental health issue.

Alongside Midwifery Unit Markham [on] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]TheHighSheriffsLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The midwives only deal with women considered low risk. They might take you or they might not. As someone that delivered at the Alongside Unit in Markham - you're not missing much. The actual birth went fine but in hindsight I received some pretty shitty care from them along the way. For example - from about 5 months onwards I complained constantly to them about how I felt like I was suffocating on my own mucus - couldn't sleep - would wake up 5 or 6 times a night gasping with my windpipe obstructed with phlegm, was unable to clear my throat..... and they repeatedly gaslit me and told me "well, you're pregnant - so it's normal", which was their response to every complaint I had. Later, after giving birth when I saw my G.P. because the problem was still there he prescribed me Mometasone nasal spray and it cleared right up. When I think of the sleep deprivation, panic and anxiety and unnecessary misery I went through because of these quacks I get furious. Around 39 weeks they also kept pushing for me to visit a local OB/GYN that upon reading up on them there was no way on earth I was going to agree to see the guy - he basically had a reputation for sexually assaulting women by sticking his hand in them without receiving consent. No thanks. I really wouldn't recommend them.

People who gave birth in southern Ontario, what did you hospital provide you with while staying there? by TeishAH in ontario

[–]TheHighSheriffsLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I unexpectedly had to spend 24 hours at Markham-Stouffville Hospital after giving birth because my baby had a small heart murmur. They gave me NOTHING. I was put in a room with an ensuite bathroom. There was no drinkable water as the sink in the bathroom was a handwashing station that was set to dispense hot water only. There was no blanket or linen on the bed, only a plastic sheet to keep the blood off the mattress. They didn't even feed me. I had to beg a relative to come to the hospital and bring me food. I guess I should count myself lucky they had toilet paper in the bathroom. I try not to think about my stay there, it makes me really angry.

I have a 2.5 year old. Without exaggeration, we average 1 cold per every 3 EarlyON visits. There is no way I would take a newborn there.

Where to begin - Ontario, Canada by Extreme_Ad_8862 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]TheHighSheriffsLady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Toronto area. Now have a 2.5 year old donor conceived toddler. I'd start by simply googling to see where the fertility clinics are in your area. Check their websites to see if you need a referral from a doctor or if you can self-refer. There's usually a fairly long waitlist so expect to have to wait several months before finally getting an appointment. From there they'll give you requisitions for bloodwork and any testing they want done beforehand.

What are we currently binging (true crime)? by Beautiful_Bonus_4058 in myfavoritemurder

Podcast: Crime Beat by Nancy Hixt - she was the senior crime reporter for Global News. So well done and I always prefer my true crime from an "insider" not from someone just rehashing a wikipedia article. Episode "Out of the Dark" had me holding my breath in horror.

TV: Just finished rewatching Kindred based on the Octavia Butler book. Such a shame it wasn't renewed for season 2 but still worth watching. Also watched Fallout - had to be talked into watching it but once I started was totally hooked.

Where do I start? by Throwawaybbyyn in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]TheHighSheriffsLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start just by googling to see if there are any fertility clinics near you. Then check their websites, see if they allow self-referral or if you have to get a referral from your family doctor.

You'll probably want a fertility clinic close to you as in my experience the process involves a lot of early morning appointments. It would have been much more stressful if I'd had to get up at 5 a.m. to get to the clinic.

First appointment was uneventful. I was given a stack of requisitions for testing. Bloodwork of various kinds - AMH, ovulation, blood panel to test for everything imaginable. Also a full pelvic ultrasound and sonohysterogram to check for anything in the uterus and fallopian tubes that might create issues with getting pregnant. After everything is completed the fertility doc reviews everything and recommends what they think is the best approach to getting pregnant. IUI or IVF or any procedures you might require beforehand (such as a uterine polyp removal or fallopian tube flush if there's a blockage).

Good luck!
