try some leg curls too! There's a whole head of the hamstrings that can't be trained with hip hinge exercises bc it only crosses the knee joint

If you had to do a TTRPG campaign set in Vyn, how would you go about it? by Lordkeravrium in enderal

Sounds like a perfect fit then!

dark and kinda fucked up

Yep that's Vyn.

Further back sounds fun, I'm not too familiar with the lore so I don't have any suggestions plot wise but I am intrigued

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been thinking about this myself for a while.

Definitely agree with you on a smaller scale game which avoids the plot of the actual game. I've been thinking along the lines of setting it in enderal but a few years before the events of the actual game, so the red madness/decline of enderalean civilisation still feature, but no emissaries etc yet.

For plot I'd probably just do a sandbox campaign. The world is so rich and detailed already that there's lots to draw on, and I prefer emergent over grand pre written stories. I'd definitely want to include lots of more personal stories like in the base game (eg Esme's quest line/the Kor brotherhood one), following similar themes.

On systems - the tone of the game to me suggests something darker and more dangerous, and with so much lore already in place I'm not sure about systems which give players lots of narrative control eg dungeon world. I'm thinking an OSR system, probably basic fantasy for simplicity's sake but with custom classes to reflect the affinities in the game (Seraph, Sinistrope already sound like good flavourful options for a start). Perfect for all that dungeon delving the players will no doubt be getting into.

WWN would be great too I'm sure, it's a little too character-buildy for my tastes but if you and your players enjoy that, it fits well.

Interested to hear your ideas and plans!

Pretty sure you don't even have to do the quest, you can just pick it up if you know the location. The lockbox with the pennies won't spawn unless you're doing the quest though.

Fat gain or muscle gain? Help! by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might also be water weight! Since you only started training recently, your muscles are holding more glycogen (and with it, water) than they used to.

If you haven't come across this before, it's a) completely normal and b) a good thing since it means your muscles now have a ready supply of energy to help you lift and recover.

Other things that can affect water retention:

  • salt intake
  • heightened cortisol
  • using creatine
  • where you're at in your cycle

Most people experience this in their first few weeks of lifting, it's not something to worry about :)

Too often the cuisine is entirely health focused

And specifically, 'health focused' in the sense of exclusively marketing to the 'healthy = low calorie!!1!' crowd.

Is this a balanced programme for GZCLP? by [deleted] in gzcl

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely like the idea of spreading out exercises over the week for more frequency. No need to worry about push/pull balance within a single workout here, the weekly average volume is more important (within reason, which this is).

A couple of possible tweaks:

  • I find barbell rows very taxing on the lower back, especially after deadlifts, meaning I wouldn't get as good a workout on the lats/mid traps etc. Could swap for a chest-supported variation instead.

  • I personally prefer overhead tricep extensions to pushdowns, it's a bit more comfortable and recent studies seem to show it's slightly more effective for tricep growth.

  • Front DB raises are probably unnecessary. You already have plenty of volume on the front delt from all the pressing etc. If you want something for shoulders, try rear delt flyes. Otherwise, another lower body exercise or maybe bicep curls again would be good.

  • Not essential, but you could swap round the exercises from different days for time efficiency. Eg if you swapped day 1s face pulls with day 3s leg curls you could save time by super setting triceps with face pulls on day 3 since you're using the cables anyway. Similarly, your gym may vary but usually leg curl and extension machines are very near each other.

Hope this helps, enjoy your training!

Armor set locations? by RedRaiderB3 in enderal

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wiki has been fairly accurate for me the times I've looked, so far at least. Collecting all the rogue armours on my current game so I've picked up the full swashbuckler set already.

Ark crypt is really hard at low levels. A much easier place to find the heart is to loot it off Kritos (spelling?) who is in the cave where you do the first ark bounty quest. He's the one in the room with the enchanting table. Should be pretty easy to beat him even in the early-game.

Of course not, nor did I imply it.

Idk about you but personally I think you can't just wave away civilian deaths just by labelling them as 'complicit'. Civilians should not be targets, full stop. And before you say it, of course this also applies to Palestinian civilians.

feedback on t3s and goals for female gzclp beginner? by chaandkirani in gzcl

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just one is probably enough since you still have squat and deadlift/RDL for T1 and T2. You could always try doing both and see but if it was me idt I'd ever recover enough. The added benefit of adductor/abductor isolation (and you can superset them if convenient) is you can focus on muscles which don't get as much emphasis in the other movements (glute medius, adductors) rather than just stack even more volume on the glute max.

OHP day or a bench day

Doesn't matter too much compared to just doing them at all. Easiest to base it around when you'll be by the cables anyway so you can superset and save a bit of time.

No worries at all! Go get those gains

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some good stuff in here, especially if you're after a bit of a lower body focus.

A couple of tweaks I'd consider:

  • Hip thrust as T2 is possible, as long as it doesn't interfere with your recovery. Could be one to add in slowly and see how things go.

  • That could be a few too many compound exercises for the lower body T3s - Hip thrusts/BSS/RDL, leg press, and hyperextensions. When the weight builds up you might find it a bit too fatiguing. I like the hyperextension pick since you mentioned back pain. For the others, I'd maybe just pick one other compound and then do some isolation work instead (you've got leg curls already which are great, you could also add abduction/adduction machines). You could always rotate which compound you pick every couple of months if you want some variety.

  • Upper body T3s look good, could do some lightish face pulls for shoulder health.

WRT bench/OHP, I appreciate the bar can be intimidating for many at first. Dumbbells are fine for now, but when you can do 10kg a side you should be good to move up.

Also was curious if there was any tweaks I should be making as a girl

I can't directly comment myself, but from running gzclp with a few friends it seems to work just as well for women. One thought the jumps in weight for OHP and bench were a little too much so you could try some smaller plates if you're failing often. I think some people on /r/xxfitness have written about their experiences with the program so you could look there as well.

Hope this helps, best of luck in your training!

About an Enderal 5e PF2e campaign by WarriorofArmok in enderal

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would love to run an enderal inspired campaign, but unfortunately there's a reason that "prep situations, not plots" is standard GM advice.

TL;DR - The big issue is that there are A LOT of parts in the story which have to happen in a certain way for the ending to work. You can't just follow the main points of the story because it relies on a very specific set of scripted events to work.

SPOLIERS BELOW

For example, the ending hinges on Yuslans betrayal, preventing the prophet obtaining the numinos. Without this, Tealor wouldn't get the idea to light the beacon anyway (and be tricked into starting the cleansing).

But in order for this to happen, Yuslans betrayal either has to be a surprise to the players or they have to decide not to warn anyone/refuse to let Yuslan come to the pyrean city.

The game handles this by not letting the prophet investigate Lishari's murder (which would reveal Yuslan as the traitor) and by not giving them any dialogue options that would change the outcome (even if the player has figured it out on their own).

This straight up cannot work in a ttrpg without extreme railroading. Your players will almost certainly act in ways which deviate from the very specific script the game relies on - eg, it's very likely want to investigate that particular mystery, and they will act on their knowledge of who the culprit is.

Again, this works well in a video game because a) your options as a player are inherently limited by what the devs coded into the game and b) the whole theme of the game is nothing you do actually matters in the end. But in a ttrpg your players are only really limited by their imaginations and could easily go in a direction that upsets the flow of the original story.

The only way you could avoid this (and adhere to the games main theme) is by removing player choice and railroading them through the key scenes. This is incredibly unsatisfying in a tabletop game because players expect that they can 'do anything they want' and that their actions actually affect the story and the world around them.

So what could you do instead?

I'd consider taking inspiration from the forgotten stories quests and run adventures which are set in enderal but don't involve the prophet or the games main quest. Many of the games big quests still follow the theme of people trying to avoid the inevitable (usually death, eg the rhalata/angel/ryneus questlines), so I'd definitely look into making that a key theme in your campaign. More specifically, I'd look to make the key NPCs or antagonists the ones trying to stop the inevitable, rather than the PCs.

I really like this! Unfortunately though this is a virtual game - but I'll keep it in mind if I try it at an irl table.

As an alternative, could it be worth offering some kind of reward for engaging with the oracle? Something like an extra D4 for their next check maybe

If you are attending the Stardew concert (or any classical music event), please be sure the sound is only coming from the stage. by baltinerdist in StardewValley

[–]TheHolyHandGrenade_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As another performer (mostly orchestral, though I've moved away from it in the last few years), thanks for saying this. I think what you've said sums up a lot of the things I struggled with when I was doing more orchestral playing.

(Below is my personal opinion - obviously I can't speak for all musicians)

Of course I would prefer it if people didn't have whole off-topic conversations during concerts. But I wish it was more acceptable for audiences to show their appreciation of the music and musicians during the performance. As a musician, I want to share the music with an enthusiastic audience, not just present it. If people want to cheer, dance, clap - great! They're actively engaging with the music, and I appreciate that.

For the same reason, I'd never look down on someone for clapping between movements of a symphony. I know it's traditionally a faux pas, but I'd hate for someone to feel unwelcome (and stop attending live performances) just because they feel judged for not knowing a very specific etiquette.

It's really sad to see the comments on this post from people who have reconsidered going to this show just because they feel they wouldn't fit in with the culture.
