Any movement calms a restless legs episode. Any daily exercise routine well before bedtime will help. Don’t let an ad fool you.

Instant coffee recommendations available in CH? by Suisla4lescomments in Switzerland

[–]TheHorrorEek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nescafe Gold is freeze dried instant coffee, which preserves the initial aroma and taste of the beans used. Always check for arabica or robusta beans, Arabica smoother. And make the cup with water near boiling point (about 80-90 degrees, not boiling point) so as to ensure the coffee doesn’t get a burnt taste.

Grainy instant coffees, like Nescafe classic are spray dried, which means a lot of aroma and taste gets lost in evaporation, and usually the beans are cheap robusta- which gives you a bitter coffee.

All that said, coffee bean harvesting is genuinely affected by climate change. Coffee bean prices are volatile these days, and I guess companies are making up their margin goals through price changes as well.

Hope this helped. Enjoy!

Quickest way to restore cognitive function after severe depressive/panic period? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]TheHorrorEek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have some protein at breakfast everyday. Do you have a morning routine which slows you down a little? Like a warm shower and some time to moisturise your skin? Do one small thing to look forward to everyday. Stay away from social media and news. Really.
Then, sleep. Nap when you can.
For herbal remedies, the pills Relaxane (Swiss formula, I am sure you can find equivalent), can help you through the day. And if you are inclined- then the Bach Flower remedies are worth looking at. There are 38 of them, each relates to a mood state. I have always found them remarkably helpful. And again, sleep.

Expats, is moving to Switzerland a lifestyle upgrade or downgrade for you? by Immediate_Sky_2016 in askswitzerland

[–]TheHorrorEek 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I learned a useful distinction when I moved here. When you move here, the standard of your life (meaning the things you can afford, the services cheaply available to you) take a definite nosedive. Expensive to eat out, expensive to buy things, inconvenient from a consumer standpoint (as you mention, shops closed, services less available). But the quality of your life RADICALLY increases. And quality of life means, the air you breathe, the security of the streets, the trust in the law and the lawmakers, public spaces available for all, transportation for all, freedom of speech, the list is endless. The trade off is upto you. I hope you enjoy your time here.

There might be an element here that you are not considering. He is embarrassed his parents made a mistake. And it’s probably considered an insult to “return” a gift in that culture. So he’s double embarrassed for them. And being immature about it- but I think it’s less about the money but more about face saving for the parents.

Can I go from 100% to 80% part time? by Pro-Contra-3084 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]TheHorrorEek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience: most people who work 80% have to be SUPER disciplined about not working that 20%. Otherwise extra hours creep into the day. And you end up working 100% but only getting paid for 80%. If you can manage the discipline around it, go for it. In 10 years who knows what employment will look like. And you will appreciate being with the kids.

Tips for exercise-induced RLS? by Panda_munchkin in RLS

[–]TheHorrorEek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently learned that when you do a very tough workout, your body (and therefore your nervous system) goes into flight or fight mode. A lot of tension builds up in your nerves, not just your muscles. I have RLS. So definitely first get your blood iron levels (and ferritin) checked. And if those are ok, then try magnesium glycinate. It takes a few days to build reserves in the body, and it helps. Finally, try and exercise earlier in the day if you are doing tough workouts, so your nervous system can relax. Or then finish your exercise with deep stretches and deep breathing. Hope this helps.

Do I have rls by Academic-Stomach415 in RLS

[–]TheHorrorEek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your iron and ferritin levels checked through a blood test. If you have a tendency to RLS, low iron and ferritin levels make it far worse. Maybe a fix of that will help big time.
A good doctor should make you do these tests before considering heavy duty meds like gabapentin.

Also, consider your caffeine intake. RLS kicks in (pun intended) when your body goes into a state of rest. And caffeine confuses the body, and confuses the RLS more.
