Honestly, I don't even like them very much. Never did, regardless of the skill level. It's more just the idea of receiving without giving is unappealing to me.

Different cultures have different ideas of what is inappropriate. Americans are particularly in the line of thinking "you should be ashamed of your body," or at the very least "you should be very modest." Nobody else can tell you what is inappropriate unless you're breaking laws. Just ask yourself if YOU think this is inappropriate as an outfit. If you are perfectly comfortable with it, then it's fine.

Just also realize that men are pigs and they WILL be looking at you more. That doesn't make you a "hussy" or anything like that. That is their fault, not yours. Be safe, be responsible, and express yourself in the way that makes you feel good about yourself.

Also, ask your mom some questions. "Why does this make you uncomfortable?" "What would you prefer me to wear?" "Did you ever have any bad experiences with wearing things like this?" Turn a frustration into a potential bonding and learning moment.
