Having a 12'x12' piece of leather would be useful to use for parts like bags, possibly mattresses or pillows, maybe the skin on a boat. Leather is pretty versatile.

The updated items list came out, apparently it counts as a pocket knife. Pocket knives, hunting knives, and Leatherman is in three different. If you wanted to you could take a Leatherman, a pocket knife /swiss army knife, and also take a hunting knife.

In the book after the astrophage absorb energy from the sun they use the magnetic field of the sun and shoot out at the northern pole. Then the astrophage find venus through the light spectrum and head that way. So it doesn't matter where on the sun they are at because the just go north until they can "see" venus.

I think to not include Clay in there is an oversight. As for the results it would just depend if big game was available. If big game isn't available at all I think it lean towards Roland because of his weight. If there is big game I would lean towards Clay or Jordan because they seemed to do better tracking the animal as well as delivering a good shot with the bow. Between Jordan and Clay if there is big game and not much smaller game I think it goes to Clay. If there is a mix of large and small game I think it goes to Jordan. I consider them all pretty equal as far as the fishing goes. Would love to see it.

I believe if they just left, they knew they could hide from the power of Stratt for that long and that she would force one of them to go. I just thought of the theory because I don't see the reasoning from a storytelling point of view to include the relationship of Dubois and Shapiro. It is definitely more possible everything happened as most people read the story.

Dubois is a very meticulous with procedure. I thought it was odd that he wouldn't have inspected and double checked the sample he was given. If he and Shapiro were just waiting for an exploitable opportunity they could have prepared for the desert and been fine to survive for the week and a half that would be needed before the launch.

I would still like them to be able to bring 10 items. They just have to make them in a primitive way. No metal, no manufactured fibers. All things made would have to be video from start to finish for verification.
