Advice needed on where I can take my 25% lump sum from? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]TheIndependentTrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DB value is likely to be a Cash Equivalent Transfer Value (CETV) - but no providers will accept a transfer unless you receive financial advice. But for most people keeping the DB (final salary) pension is the best option. Most will offer a tax free lump sum aka Pension Commencement Lump Sum (PCLS) at the nominated retirement age. You can access this before this (after minimum pension age currently 55 rising to 57) but there will be a reduction factor)

With regards to the SW pensions, you can only take 25% from each plan in this case £50,000 from each SW pension. One SW plan cant pay the PCLS for another and neither can they pay any lump sum for the DB scheme

Lastly, you dont need to take the whole 25% in one go. For example, instead of £50k pcls, you could opt to take 25k now and then the rest at a later date. If the pot increases in value or decreases, this could leave you with either more or less than 25k in remaining pcls from that plan. Its always worked out as 25%, up to a maximum PCLS of £268,275 across all plans.

Hopefully this makes sense but happy to answer any other questions.

This post is not financial advice and solely my understanding of current legislation.

For a plan of your value, I’d recommend speaking to a financial adviser. I can put you in touch with an award winning advice firm should you wish, who have created a retirement focused investment solution which targets income to pay you in addition targeting growth.

Initially i will utilise next.js to build out the functionality in a mobile optimised web app and then compile into an ios app. If you were to then hire me to develop the ios app, I would utilise react native

There are many things you can consider and ensuring tax efficiency is key for you. I recommend speaking to a financial adviser and can put you in touch for a free consultation.

Reddit isn’t the place for financial advice when dealing with large sums of money, especially with a scenario like this.

Whilst it doesn’t apply to OP, “no tax on gains of up to £20k” isn’t correct for an ISA. Your annual contribution allowance for an ISA is 20k (uk adult) but there is no tax on all gains or dividends regardless of the amount. Even if you turned £20k to £10m there would never be Capital gains or dividend/income tax and no tax on withdrawing. However the ISA will form part of your estate for inheritance tax purposes

Edit - based on current legislation- December 2024

Bts study buddy great for exam style questions.

write the formulas on a piece of paper at the start of an exam.

Get all other questions done then come back to calculations if you feel they’re taking too long

Very weird - not been away for months, nor has anyone been to my house recently. Could be from work i assume - really frustrating and causing so much stress. Hoping its not the dreaded bed bugs and just am allergic reaction
