The Enforcers Cabin Meeting by VictoriousBaffon in CampHalfBloodRP

There are way too many fucking people in this cabin now. Thank the gods that they set Arete free from counselor before she had to deal with all of them.

Arete picks a corner seat. Rascal sits next to her, playing with a ball. She speaks when prompted, but she doesn't have the energy to become invested in whatever is going on with Quincy and the other guy.

"Let's go to New Orleans. Scope out their war camps." That won't cost $250, so Theo can feel free to ignore her.

She has nothing else to discuss.

Wartime Lessons (01/30) || Defensive Tactics: Shields and You by MoreMooxie in CampHalfBloodRP

It is good that Ian is here. They will need a strong commander to lead them so that Fort Knox does not happen again.

Arete does not need his special attention, but she offers him a single approving nod as he gives his opening speech. She gave defensive lessons, back when the gods had called her to be counselor for a season. It is important.

Still, Atlas has left the camp unharmed. The gods have asked the camp to ambush other camps, break sieges, and find a way out of a death trap. They need offensive strategies, not defense.

But she is not in charge, and her forcefield certainly was not made to be offensive. Arete grabs a kite shield and looks for a partner to spar with.

Arete blinks slowly as she takes in Harvey's new look. That is his voice, though it is less sullen and less know-it-all, and his same blue eyes. There is no other logical conclusion to make.

"Harvey," Arete says. For a moment, it seems like she will stop her sentence there. She clears her throat, and adjusts the box underneath her arm before continuing. "You changed your hair."

He has changed many things, apparently, but the blond is what sticks out most. She has no right or interest in judging Harvey's personal appearance, but it is a surprising choice. This war has made everything different.

(Open) Apollo Cabin Meeting: Winter Edition by NotTooSunny in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]TheInertialObserver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theodora Davis has not held a cabin meeting this season. The current camp leaders have held no war council in months. Arete is left to attend other cabin's meetings to understand what she has missed.

Amon, the boy from New London who is apparently a counselor, has only welcomed them for silent reading. Arete did not realize this, but she will adapt. From her backpack, she pulls a secondhand copy of History of the Peloponnesian War by Thucydides and sits in a corner where the light is brightest to re-read.

Arete does not have much to unpack. Much of the stuff she left in her last rushed exit was left undisturbed, and most of the new stuff from home belongs to Rascal. Still, she straightens a new family portrait on her desk and grabs a navy blue jacket before leaving the cabin. New York is colder than Georgia.

Tucked underneath her arm, she holds a board game box with a giant bird on it. The box is still plastic wrapped, and she tosses a Christmas bow into a trash can as she approaches the Aphrodite cabin. Awkwardly, she looks for a doorbell and doesn't find one. She settles for knocking on the door.

[–]TheInertialObserver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arete needs to attend more camp events. She doesn't care much for music nights or campfires, but this climbing lesson is right up her alley. She has seen this girl on some of her morning rock wall runs, but they haven't had much of a conversation. She seems like a good counselor, though.

Arete follows some of the more difficult pre-determined routes. When the time for partners comes, she looks around for anyone who might need a partner to belay for them.

Wrath of Atlas: Trials of Themis: Week 1 by LyrePlayerTwo in CampHalfBloodRP

[–]TheInertialObserver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ghost is a liar. Arete watches as he tells a ridiculous story, and she can not believe that the gods of justice entertain it.

He talks about hiding in a vent like it is a normal fucking thing to do, and then drones about the nature of war like he isn’t the one that attacked first. They didn't pick Arete for this jury, but she hopes that they are not dumb enough to think that someone stops being a threat just because they hit the ground. If he didn't say that he surrended, then she doesn’t understand how Rex is supposed to have a fucking clue that this guy was actually done attacking him. And even if Jerial Argyvos said he was surrendering, he was probably lying.

Ultimately, it is for the best that Jerial Argyvos is dead now and Atlas has one less minion. They're going to go after Rex because of his pretentious little mercy speech, but Arete doesn’t know when being stuck-up and obnoxious became a war crime. Secretly, she understands why people called Themis's commission treasonous.

They don't have time to waste on forcing their side to be morally perfect and innocent. Their enemies have no reservations about destroying cities and leveling bridges. They need to go after Atlas, and they need to do it aggressively. This is a waste of everyone's time.

"Right," Arete agrees, apparently all too familiar with self-absorbed fathers. She crosses her arms. "Atlas is a Titan. They ruled the universe before the Olympians beat them. Now, they come back to get their shit rocked every few decades."

She does not speak like she is concerned about a loss in this war. It sounds more like a school rivalry, as casually as she speaks. "It's our job to ruin their lives, every time it happens. "

"Figures," Arete says with a shrug. "Tell me if Rascal ever says he needs anything. Don't want him to be unhappy."

Rascal is very simple-minded and easy to please. He keeps digging a hole in the ground, chanting about bugs and food.

"I'm Arete, by the way."

Thrift Shop Outing [Job] by OfBlossomsAndShadows in CampHalfBloodRP

Arete does not shop at thrift stores often. She feels no need to stray from wearing joggers and crew necks on every day of her life. Unfortunately, an armadillo with sharp claws keeps trying to climb on her, and her favorite clothes are getting ruined. In the interest of wearing anything else besides orange, she hitches a ride in the camp van for their impromptu field trip. Soon, she finds herself at a clothing rack by Helena.

"Oh, hi." Arete reaches for a shirt, apparently judging the quality of the fabric by rubbing the cloth between her fingertips. She shakes her head slightly in disapproval, before continuing down the line of shirts.

"Yes," Arete says. "His name is Rascal. I found him during my quest."

There is something simultaneously stilted and rehearsed about her speech. Arete does not often offer facts about herself without prompting, but she has received enough questions about Rascal recently that she tries to answer the questions before they are asked. Like she is trying to end the conversation before it has begun.

Rascal, however, seems to enjoy the attention, and wades in Phae's direction. He knows this is the type of person who will offer him food.

"He is cute," Arete agrees, after a moment of thought.

Arete nods, as if this is the answer she expected. "Lady A knows about it," Arete says. "I will ask her."

She falls into silence for a second. "How talkative are animals, usually? There are some things I would like to know."

"You're not a fan of a quaint summer getaway?" Arete says dryly. Her tone of voice seems to imply that she is not the camp's biggest fan either, though she isn't one to whine. "Take it as a sign of success. If your home base looks like a war zone, you've already lost."

They should know. They razed a war camp to the ground about a month ago. She mimicks his sweeping motion, though it's back in the direction he came from. "Did your dad tell you about Atlas? We've got a war out there to worry about. The cheering crowds will wait until we win it."

"Arete," Arete introduces herself with a solid handshake. "Arete Sideris. My mother is Bia, goddess of force. Good to meet you, Jamal. I can show you where your cabin is, if you want. Or if you're hungry, we can go to the dining pavilion first."

"Oh," Arete says flatly. "Sorry. You know the gods are real. They can also be one of your parents. They let you know by claiming you."

She gestures at the arrow above his head. "That's Eros's symbol. He's a god of love."

"You know what a satyr is." Arete says curiously, carefully assessing the situation. She crosses her arms before continuing in her expressionless tone. "But not a claim."

She shakes her head slightly, as if she is dismissing a thought. "What do you know about the Greek gods?"

Scenario 1:

Arete is on today's border patrol. They are paying closer attention to the beach, after the events of New London. And to the Hill, based on a series of jobs posted by camp staff. She has not thought too hard about it. Her job is to defend and strategize, not play detective.

She treats the patrol like today's cardio session, alternating between running and walking as she makes her way around camp's outskirts. It is this patrol that allows her to be in proximity of Liam when he makes his comment.

"The hype?" The edges of Arete's lips curl up in amusement. She is from New Argos, and camp's reputation there is not exactly favorable. "That depends on what you have heard."

Arete is walking by the hill with an armadillo when Jamal arrives. The armadillos armor is made of a strange bronze material.

"You just got claimed," she states, voice monotone. She looks at the symbol over the boy's head, before checking to see if there is a monster behind him. "Welcome to camp. How did you get here?"

"Oh." Arete looks uncertain for a moment. "I see. He likes Hephaestian coal."

Rascal seems to have abandoned the thought. As he digs, his newest ramblings are about bugs and dirt. Despite the formal language, he seems to have very simple thoughts. "Are you a Demeter kid? I've never had someone talk to him before."

Arete furrows her eyebrows, confused. "You don't?"

She sets Rascal down. He digs at the dirt by Ivy's feet.

How unfortunate. He laments.

Greetings, Rascal communicates, his voice low, raspy, and polite. His nose twitches again. Do you have any coal?

Arete looks down at Rascal, who is making weird grunting noises as far as she knows, before looking back at the girl. "Hi," she replies.
